Comments about Ikey Audio G3 Portable USB Instrument Recorder:

This is how all MP3 players ought to be designed even without the record option: fat-finger-friendly, easy to read all-weather interface, brick-like rugged design, and a great threaded fitting for mounting it on a small tripod out of harm's way. Even with batteries it has plenty of oomph for the best headphones without distorting so watch the volume setting or you will hurt your eardrums. On batteries it runs very hot though which is nerve-wracking if you have ever seen a cellphone self-ignite from bad lithium batteries.

In my office I use a 2.5 amp 5 volt plug-in power pack from a powered USB hub driver. This accessory from B & H will do the job for stationary applications of this fine recorder.

Perfect for walks in the rain in summer listening to Bruno Walter conducting Mahler or Toscanini conducting the NBC Symphony Orchestra while waiting, and for overdubbing and mixing single tracks with same in the workshop studio using the appropriate mike. It is also a perfect match for my digital music notation software which works from 44.1kHz .WAV.

It is also pleasantly weird as it plays more formats than are shown on the box. Battery life is reasonable. This recorder would be worth one's while to match up a pricier microphone with based on it playback performance.
