As I've intended I use the G-RAID for my photography and videography workflows on both a 24" iMac and 15"MacBook Pro. I am pretty happy with it's really fast start-up timing and no sluggish stream while editing HD content or full res RAW exposures from my Nikons D3 and D3S. To compare, I've been using a OWC Mercury Elite-Al Pro 2TB drive for a year now and got a little tired waiting for it to wake up every time I wanted to render some video or save some edits to a photograph. The G-RAID just works.
Not a real concern but just thought I'd throw my two cents to the pile - when transferring large files the G-RAID gets a bit loud, but bearable.
I consider the G-RAID an essential part of a professional workflow and would definitely recommend it to other professionals.

The first drive I bought was dead on arrival. It simply would not mount. I traded it in for another, copied 3 TB worth of information on to it. The next day I tried to mount it and again it would not mount. I exchanged it for yet another one, this time while I was in line, another costumer asked me if I was having mounting problems and he said that the company was bought out and that it is now a re-occurring issue. I got another anyway, re-copied all of my information on to it, and the drive worked fine for about two weeks. Yesterday the drive mounted but said there was a problem it could not repair and that none off the information on the drive could be modified and that the drive needed to be re-formatted. I can't believe how down hill this company has gone, but three drives within a month is unexceptionable. I would not recommend this drive to anyone anymore.

Comments about G-Technology 4TB G-RAID External Hard Drive Array:

These drives are great! I own around 20 of these drives in various capacities and haven't had any problems. However I did get one drive that wasn't working out of the box. There is always one bad apple in the bunch. But G-RAID replaced it in a heartbeat and we never had an issue since.

Comments about G-Technology 4TB G-RAID External Hard Drive Array:

I have two of these G-RAIDS, both have major problem: they spontaneously unmount themselves during large file transfers and one time during Quicktime playback. G-Tech seems to have few ideas other than switch to cords with metal heads (G-Tech sends Firewire 800 cables with plastic heads.) The plastic heads on the FW800 cables always seem wiggly and loose to me. I am waiting for a set of metal head cables from them and will hope this fixes it.

We use these GRAID drives for professional editing and storage of our projects. They have been very reliable with only an occasional failure that usually gives some warning signs that the drive is unhappy. They do prefer conditioned power over the odd spike or drop. We own about 100 of these drives.

I needed to expand my Aperture library as my large format digital images had maxed out my hard drive. Easy to install, easy to relocate originals from my Aperture library to the G-RAID and now I have enough room to upload more images. It really helped organize my files and gives me a double back-up in addition to a separate external HD and a cyberspace backup.

Always happy to use G-Technology brand devices - they are reliable, fast (depending on the speed you purchase) and come in so many different model options for whatever you require. I will continue to purchase and recommend this brand for the foreseeable future.

After hours of shooting you need a place to store them. I started out a few years ago with a 1TB G-Raid drive, Soon needed more storage and bought a 2 TB. I figured this would last for years but as more business came my way I needed more and purchased the 4TB. They all work excellent with ESata transfer cables. No delays when retriving material. Next time I am heading for the 12TB.
I love G-Tech new on line setup for PC.

This external drive is my primary external drive for an early 2009 MacPro running OS/X 10.8.3 (mountain lion) with a 256GB SSD primary, and 2 TB data HD. The other two internal HD are a 1 and 2 TB RAID for time machine. I wanted the extra security of an external backup. This drive uses top-rated hard drives and offers USB, Firewire, and eSATA connections. Adding a fast drive to an older Mac was my intention and this drive is working great with its eSATA connection.

I am editing a documentary on my Mac, and find the G Raid useful and affordable. I have purchased 2 of these from B and H and both are good, work well and keep my computer from overheating during hours of moving video around. It may not be the absolute best out there, but its plenty good enough for me!

I am a professional data manager for the TV, Film and Commercial industry. I use these drives almost exclusively. I get an average of 240 MB/s read speeds and 220 MB/s write speeds via Esata connection. Great drive for pro video, audio and stills.

Make sure to get at least two of these drives. RAID 0 is great for speed but it does nothing for data protection. Having two drives helps to reduce the risk of data loss.

This is my second 4Tb RAID. Bought it as a backup to the first 4Tb drive. Both run flawlessly and store years of video files.

Works great with Macbook Pro. I work off of drive #1 as external hard drive. Then at end of day, copy files to drive #2.

A bit noisy, but has not been a problem.

Comments about G-Technology 4TB G-RAID External Hard Drive Array:

I got the drive for video editing, at the suggestion of a friend who is an expert video editor. (I'm an experienced Mac user, but a beginner video editor.) It works well enough, although I don't know enough about other drives' performance with video editing to compare them. Three things I've noticed and don't care for:
                                1. This drive is not happy on a Firewire 800 chain when it is downstream from a Voyager "toaster" drive (from Other World Computing). It works OK downstream from a Mercury Elite drive (also from OWC). Upstream from either drive, it's okay.
                                2. This drive is loud. Aren't we beyond that in disk drive technology by now?
                                3. The flashing light on the front is crazy-making. It's so bright and so insistently flashing that I feel like I'm being strobed. And I can't cover the light effectively without also covering the vent holes, which would not be wise.

I have two of these drives. I use one as a Time Machine backup for all my working files and I use a second as a repository for completed projects. The only thing bad I have to say is that one of these drives did fail. However. G-Raid replaced the drive with a brand new one very quickly and without question. I do transport my backup drive between and home and the office so something could have happened in transit. For the price and the storage size of the drive. You can't beat the price. Plus they look great like the mac pro.
