The DeckLink Studio 2 SD/HD Video Card with SDI, HDMI & Analog Connections from Blackmagic is an SD/HD broadcast video card. It features fully independent connections for SDI, HDMI, analog component, S-video, and composite video.
Both the SDI and analog component connections auto switch between SD and HD. An extra SD-SDI output via a built-in hardware down converter is available for work in HD. When you're working in NTSC and PAL, you can use the SD-SDI output as a key output.
Audio connections include 4 channels of balanced analog audio, 8 channels of SDI audio, and 2 channels of AES/EBU digital with sample-rate converters. The unit also offers an RS-422 deck control, as well as blackburst and tri-sync reference input.

This was purchased to replace an older edit suite running a DecklinkSP card, and to prep me for the switch to HDV editing. So far this card seems comparable to the SP in performance. I haven't noticed any issues with Premiere CS4 or in importing older projects created with the SP card. My only complaint stems from the break out cable. I consider this card on par with the SP card and yet the SP card had a much higher quality break out cable than the Studio. It's quite a bit shorter (I have spoken to Blackmagic and understand their reasoning behind this), all the BNC connections are female, and the audio connections are 1/4". Granted this is listed in the product description and it's my fault for paying too much attention to the card specs and not enough to the cable specs, but I am still shocked that a card of this caliber has such a disappointing break out cable. Even the RS422 control cable is a female out, opposite of the SP's control cable. Basically I now have to rewire my entire edit suite for this card and I just don't understand their reasoning behind it other than the possibility that this is Blackmagic's marketing ploy to convince you to purchase the Pro card.

This card works great with our cheap Toshiba monitor. The quality is pretty good with the output.

Comments about Blackmagic Design DeckLink Studio 2 SD/HD Video Card with SDI, HDMI & Analog Connections:
This card works fine, I like it. Two things I notice I dislike, I found some delay on the hdmi output of 2 frames in premiere cs6, not big deal but I would like the signal to be in sync. And it doesn't scale 4k to HD.

Comments about Blackmagic Design DeckLink Studio 2 SD/HD Video Card with SDI, HDMI & Analog Connections:
For the price point, no doubt this is an excellent and versatile card.
Just one caution for the user and that is do your research on compatible motherboards and system setups before purchasing! Just because you have a PCIe port does not mean this card will work!
Also, was a little dissapointed that BlackMagic is now doing 1/4" TRS audio connections instead of XLR, but overall, a solid card.

Comments about Blackmagic Design DeckLink Studio 2 SD/HD Video Card with SDI, HDMI & Analog Connections:
I've been using this to digitize SD video and authorize with Avid Symphony and Sorenson Squeeze. Easy to setup. Everything in everything out flexibility. I've read comments that the breakout cable is flimsy. It looks well made to me in the last months worth of work and 2TB of video capture. I'm learning to love the Media Express software. I capture in 8bit AVI, import to Avid through AMA and output to H264 or WMA. Results are great. I wish Media Express recorded to more codexs.

Comments about Blackmagic Design DeckLink Studio 2 SD/HD Video Card with SDI, HDMI & Analog Connections:
This is a great way (and fairly cheap way) to get signal in and out of your computer. Black Magic has always made quality products and this is no exception. While I do prefer a breakout box over a breakout cable, you just can't beat the price on this one.

Comments about Blackmagic Design DeckLink Studio 2 SD/HD Video Card with SDI, HDMI & Analog Connections:
I do a lot of audio and video work and needed a card that works with Sony Vegas Pro 11. This card does that and more. My only negative for this card is that while it will play audio back in any application it will not record audio except in video capture applications. This requires another high end audio card or USB device for audio only applications. That said it does everything else exactly as advertised! Very easy installation and setup.

people compaining about the beakout -- those are not cables, they are connectors. just like on the back of a deck (for those old enough to remember decks).

Comments about Blackmagic Design DeckLink Studio 2 SD/HD Video Card with SDI, HDMI & Analog Connections:
Took me a few days to figure out why the BlackMagic driver(s) [there are several](8.5) failed to properly install. Unless it installs the board is useless of course. If it was a weekeday I would have given up and sent it back.
However, on a whim, i looked in the Device Manager and found that the Microsoft Media Controller was not properl;y working and it asked me to try and update it's driver. I decided instead to delete the not functioning Microsoct Driver driver (since at this point I was feeling learned helplessness. Then after a reboot I tried to install what i figured was the only media controller of importance (why have two ?) and the Blackmagic Drivers installed with no problem !
I spent two days searching the WWW regarding various error codes (code 2753 and another 80005 ish) and it was all not needed. NO error codes after installing the Blackmagic 8.5 set of drivers and no error core after deleting the Microsoft Media Controller.

The card installed nicely, however I had some confusion(I need no brainer instructions) as to which program to install as there was many.
Also the breakout cables come without any length making you go out and have to purchase several cables , a remote 422 for one.

I'm using this card to connect HDMI to external monitor for editing
The card is very fast and has a lot of applications with the breakout cable. I can connect a client monitor with HDMI and at the same time, connect an pro monitor with SDI. Works fantastic.
The breakout cable is a little heavy with all the input/output options. I don't like how it hangs down from the parallel port.

Using this with FCP is a must. Installs easy and works with little troubles. We have a Sony 24p LED LCD TV hooked to this to view FCP in real time. Amazing product!
Comments about Blackmagic Design DeckLink Studio 2 SD/HD Video Card with SDI, HDMI & Analog Connections:
This card for audio is awful. I had to return it. The problem is if you connect any of the 1/4" cables to consumer equipment, there is a huge distortion sound! Also, if you get a pro-consumer adapter, going 1/4" to RCA, it fixes the problem but does not completely eliminate it.
If you connect it to professional audio gear there is no issue.

This product is exactly what I needed, and the price is excellent. I have experience with both AJA cards and BlackMagic cards from the various companies I have freelanced for, but now I was able to finally install one in my own machine at home. I picked the BlackMagic over AJA due mainly to price.

Comments about Blackmagic Design DeckLink Studio 2 SD/HD Video Card with SDI, HDMI & Analog Connections:
I bought this card to connect my switcher to my Mac Pro for live web streaming. Once I installed the drivers all programs that capture (Quicktime, Quicktime Broadcaster, FCP) recognize it and worked great.
It's a good product you can capture straight to prores codec.
My only con it that I wish the keyer was HD and not only SD.
