The Hoya 49mm Ultraviolet UV (C) Haze Filter is a wise initial investment. It helps protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs. The "C" on the filter ring designates Hoya's thinner design for this filter. This filter has its UV properties in the multi-coating.The result is an average light transmission of over 97% giving sharp contrast and well balanced color. Hoya HMC filters are recommended for enhancing the performance of today's multicoated digital lenses.
Multicoated to minimize reflection at the filter surfaces which reduces flare and ghosting.

I use this filter often when "atmosphere" becomes just plain "haze". I use it, in my case, on a 150mm Rodenstock view camera lens and the Hoya HMC multicoating complements the multicoating on the (unshaded) lens. It is also a better lens protector. It won't make a new lens out of an old, cruddy one but it will help

Great lens protection at a reasonable price. Made with aluminum (not brass) so don't drop it. Does not harm image in any way.

Comments about Hoya 49mm Ultraviolet UV (C) Haze Multicoated Filter:
I have been using Hoya and Tiffen filters for ages. As usual, this filter did not disappoint me. The quality is excellent and multi layer surface coating minimizes glare nicely. I especially like the ultra thin profile of this filter. Its a lot thinner that others.

Comments about Hoya 49mm Ultraviolet UV (C) Haze Multicoated Filter:
Primarily bought this for general lens protection. I am currently using it with the Fujifilm FInePix X100. It has a clean look, and slightly matte-black filter coating. Picture quality does not deteriorate as the controversy states. I still say go safe and invest in a UV filter. I would recommend this for any 49mm lens threads.

Comments about Hoya 49mm Ultraviolet UV (C) Haze Multicoated Filter:
I've been primarily using this filter to protect my Pentax FA 50mm. The multicoating on this filter does a "reasonable" job in preventing glare. However, I have noticed some minor glare spots when shooting in extreme situations like right in front of a light bulb - easily resolved by using a lens hood in conjunction with this filter.

Comments about Hoya 49mm Ultraviolet UV (C) Haze Multicoated Filter:
The anti-glare coating works great, better than the lower grade UV filter I use on my 16mm pancake lens.
The anti-glare coating made the tight a little too tight and it was hard to find the start to the threads the first time I put it on the lens. After taking it on and off twice, it's been perfect. There was some slight film on the outside of the filter body, not the glass, but it came right off with a slightly damp cloth.
