The Hoya 52mm Ultraviolet UV (C) Haze Filter is a wise initial investment. It helps protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs. The "C" on the filter ring designates Hoya's thinner design for this filter. This filter has its UV properties in the multi-coating.The result is an average light transmission of over 97% giving sharp contrast and well balanced color. Hoya HMC filters are recommended for enhancing the performance of today's multicoated digital lenses.
Multicoated to minimize reflection at the filter surfaces which reduces flare and ghosting.

When I purchased my first several Canon EOS lenses, I thought I'd stay loyal and purchase Canon filters also. Well, I had several older Hoya HMC filters kicking around, and comparing these filters to the Canon filters, I could not believe the difference in how much less surface reflections could be seen (or actually, not seen) in the Hoya filters. So I purchased new Hoya HMC filters to replace the Canon filters. The Hoya metal mounts are equal to or better in quality, and the glass and anti-reflection coatings are superb.

Bought this to use with a Canon 50mm 1.8 "Nifty Fifty" lens. Not much to say about it, no issues other than the fact that it's an inexpensive filter that made sense on an inexpensive lens. Pictures were a little clearer without it, but it keeps the dust out and offers a little protection. Easy to install.

Comments about Hoya 52mm Ultraviolet UV (C) Haze Multicoated Filter:
Whether this filter really makes a difference with haze is hard to tell, but I mostly wanted lens protection, and this does the job without degrading image quality - and at a good price from a trusted manufacturer. It's lightweight and threads on easily.

Simple to use and adds an additional layer of protection for the lens. I've already dropped my camera twice and both times only the filter has broken. Gravity happens.

Comments about Hoya 52mm Ultraviolet UV (C) Haze Multicoated Filter:
I have always had good luck with Hoya. Much better than the really cheap filters but not ridiculously expensive. When image quality is THAT critical the filter comes off - the rest of the time it does a good job of protecting my lens.

Comments about Hoya 52mm Ultraviolet UV (C) Haze Multicoated Filter:
I consider this filter to be a great investment for the lens - it protects from dust and scratches, and I have not found that it creates glare or negatively affects my images at all. I keep it on the lens at all times.

Comments about Hoya 52mm Ultraviolet UV (C) Haze Multicoated Filter:
Every lens needs a UV filter for protection, so buy one that's Multicoated as well. I didn't at first and the standard UV filter had lots of reflections. Get one like this that is MC to reduce flare and reflections that ruin images.

Comments about Hoya 52mm Ultraviolet UV (C) Haze Multicoated Filter:
After reading many reviews, I decided to buy some UV filters as protection for my lenses. However, I found it pointless to use them as protection (unless you go to dusty places/beach very often). I would not recommend anyone to use filter because it degrades your picture quality. Also, these are very hard to clean and leave smears. If you have expensive lenses, get B+W instead. Otherwise, lens hoods are good enough for protection.

It's a clear uv filter, not much to it. I use it to keep my lenses from gathering dust or getting scratches. You need to have one of these filters if you plan on protecting your lens, replacing a $ dollar filter is much more convenient than replacing a $1,500 lens.
