The Hoya 58mm Ultraviolet UV (C) Haze Filter is a wise initial investment. It helps protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs. The "C" on the filter ring designates Hoya's thinner design for this filter. This filter has its UV properties in the multi-coating.The result is an average light transmission of over 97% giving sharp contrast and well balanced color. Hoya HMC filters are recommended for enhancing the performance of today's multicoated digital lenses.

Multicoated to minimize reflection at the filter surfaces which reduces flare and ghosting.

When I purchased my first several Canon EOS lenses, I thought I'd stay loyal and purchase Canon filters also. Well, I had several older Hoya HMC filters kicking around, and comparing these filters to the Canon filters, I could not believe the difference in how much less surface reflections could be seen (or actually, not seen) in the Hoya filters. So I purchased new Hoya HMC filters to replace the Canon filters. The Hoya metal mounts are equal to or better in quality, and the glass and anti-reflection coatings are superb.

For a middle-of-the-road (okay, low-end, truth be told) UV filter, this is fine -- not going to turn anyone into Ansel Adams, but perfectly adequate for the amateur/not-very-serious hobbyist. I've used these for years, and am content with them, knowing that they are what they are.

A friend recommended that I buy a filter to protect the lens on my new Canon EOS camera, so I read the reviews and bought this one. Reviewers said there was no reflection or halo, and they were right. I'm happy with the filter, and I think it'll help save my lens from dust and dirt.

Comments about Hoya 58mm Ultraviolet UV (C) Haze Multicoated Filter:

I bought two of these to protect my new lenses. I generally get UV filters for the added advantage of filtering some of the "haze" out of outdoor shots. I tend to like Hoya filters as I've been using them for many years in my other cameras and I'm not disappointed in these. Even at full zoom on my 85-300 Canon lens the image was sharp with no vignetting that I noticed. No unpleasant surprises.
