When spending up to $800 on a single lens, without a filter, you risk scratching the lens or even cracking if it is dropped. repairing it would cost you hundreds since the most expensive part of the lens is the glass. This filter was in the same B&H.com shopping cart as the 15-85 lens and the lens hood. All three arrived in the same box. The filter should be applied as soon as you get the lens. No ifs, end, or buts! In addition to protecting your lens, it also blocks UV light. What more can you ask for? Hoya has been around for a while and has a good reputation on the photography community. This is one of their more affordable filters.

When investing in a new expensive lens, I thought this was a great way to protect it. Although I haven't dropped the camera yet (thank goodness) I feel somewhat covered using this filter. I haven't really noticed any big difference with my photos while using this lens, but it certainly isn't hurting image quality.

Comments about Hoya 72mm Ultraviolet UV (C) Haze Multicoated Filter:

Just purchased a new Nikon lens and purchased this filter to protect it. I have been using Hoya filters and have not had any problems with them I would suggest this for every lens to protect the glass on a lens. I would weather have to replace A filter instead of a lens due to a scratch.

I bought a Vivitar multi-coated UV filter along with this Hoya MC UV filter, and the difference in optical qualities was obvious -- the moment I compared the 2 side by side, it was obvious that the Hoya filter was noticeably more transparent and less reflective -- and that is exactly what you want your UV filters to do.

This filter does a good job protecting the lens of my Nikon Digital camera. However, I tried to use it on my new Sony PXW-Z100 4k VIDEO CAMERA. It did not contain the threads necessary to adapt to the camera. I sent it beck to Sony for repair just this week. They will fix it.

Comments about Hoya 72mm Ultraviolet UV (C) Haze Multicoated Filter:

Works great and protects my lens and I have found it to be a absolute must have for that reason alone. Don't be foolish and not use one. I bought this one to replace the one I had that got scratched and man was I glad I had it on my lens at the time or I would be replacing a [$]dollar lens instead of a very inexpensive filter.
