The Hoya 77mm Ultraviolet UV (C) Haze Filter is a wise initial investment. It helps protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs. The "C" on the filter ring designates Hoya's thinner design for this filter. This filter has its UV properties in the multi-coating.The result is an average light transmission of over 97% giving sharp contrast and well balanced color. Hoya HMC filters are recommended for enhancing the performance of today's multicoated digital lenses.
Multicoated to minimize reflection at the filter surfaces which reduces flare and ghosting.

A UV filter is a must for most lenses to not only cut out UV but also to protect the front of the lens. It beats me why the lens manufacturers don't include one with a new lens however I'm a loyal Hoya brand user and have used their products for like 30 years. I'm also a great fan of Nikon/Nikkor and use Hoya filters all the time. This is a great filter for the price and I doubt if you'd see any difference using one 2-3x the price.

JUNK JUNK JUNK
Side by side 100% crops with and without filter clearly show an abvious drop in image quality with this filter on. Edges suddenly turn to mush. I would NOT recommend this filter.

Comments about Hoya 77mm Ultraviolet UV (C) Haze Multicoated Filter:
I wanted a thin protective filter to use on a 10-20mm lens. This seemed to be a good value at a reasonable price point. Use care when installing this filter as the threads are very thin and it is easy to cross thread.

I don't care what your views are on whether or not a filter degrades your images. I have had two lenses saved by having one attached at all times.
I have always had good results with Hoya products,

I purchased this filter as soon as I got my 24-105mm L lens. I never removed it since. Pretty good insurance policy for my L series lens.
