The Hoya 82mm Ultraviolet UV (C) Haze Filter is a wise initial investment. It helps protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs. The "C" on the filter ring designates Hoya's thinner design for this filter. This filter has its UV properties in the multi-coating.The result is an average light transmission of over 97% giving sharp contrast and well balanced color. Hoya HMC filters are recommended for enhancing the performance of today's multicoated digital lenses.

Multicoated to minimize reflection at the filter surfaces which reduces flare and ghosting.

If you shoot in sandy, dusty or rainy conditions it would be wise to protect your lens investment. I shoot quite often in an enclosed area full of marble dust and would not even consider shooting without a protective filter. Filters are much cheaper to replace than a $1,600 lens once you do get a scratch .

I ordered one of these to put on a Canon 16-35mm lens. When I opened the lens box, the inner c-ring bounced out, and the glass was loose from the ring. B&H were awesome, and sent me a replacement immediately. The second filter had the same issue. I found with the second one, that I could snap the c-ring back into the filter to hold the glass. It just seemed flimsy and cheap to me. I wasn't willing to put something like this on a $1500 lens. I ended up ordering a higher quality filter from B+W. It was twice the money but seemed twice the quality when I received it. I still gave it three stars, because if I had a less expensive lens, and it had come with the c-ring snapped in place, I probably would have been okay with it. 5-stars to how B&H handled the exchange.

Comments about Hoya 82mm Ultraviolet UV (C) Haze Multicoated Filter:

Low cost and no-frills attracted me.
The sharpness of my photos seems just slightly less than without the UV filter.
The fit on the end of my 300mm Nikon f4 was difficult. It did not screw in easily, didn't seem to mount well, took quite a few tries, but it does seem solid now.
In the end, it does offer what I wanted - protection of the main lens element without affecting sharpness too much.

Comments about Hoya 82mm Ultraviolet UV (C) Haze Multicoated Filter:

I normally remove my filter when actually photographing, but sometimes I'll forget and leave the filter on. Fortunately, with this filter still attached to the lens, I still get quality results.

I always protect my shorter lenses with UV filters. It's cheap insurance against damaging the front element.

One of the best investments you can make for your expensive glass. Immediately applied to my Canon 24-70 USM II lens, and never looked back. Images look stunning, and I don't have to worry about my lens getting scratched or dusty.
