The DJM-5000 4-Channel Professional Mobile DJ Mixer from Pioneer has a 19" rackmountable frame and a spacious layout, allowing the user easy access to the controls. Each of the 4 channels has a trim pot, 3-band EQ, a cue monitoring button, a level fader and a crossfader assign switch. Three possible sources from the DJM-5000's versatile connectivity are available per channel, with up to 3 stereo channels of USB audio. The mixer is also capable of dual output zone routing, enabling separate mix to be routed to a secondary zone.

The DJM-5000 features two designated microphone channels with 3-band EQ, digital effects and Advanced Talk Over. Mic effects include reverb, echo + verb, octaver and pitch; a rotary knob determines the wet/dry blend of the chosen effect. The Advanced Talk Over function is a frequency-targeted ducker, momentarily minimizing the midrange frequencies while the mic is being used.

The output section features a Sound Maximizer function, allowing the DJ to emphasize the low frequencies and/or the high-mids via two separate knobs. An external effects send/return is also provided.

Versatile Connectivity
The DJM-5000 accepts analog, coaxial and USB source inputs. It has XLR and 1/4" TRS microphone inputs. Several output busses and connectors are available as well.
Dual Output Zones
The DJM-5000 can be easily configured for dual zone operation. The secondary zone can be sourced from any of the 4 channels, a mic, or master bus and features balanced XLR outputs.
Microphone Channels
Each microphone channel has a dedicated volume control as well as a 3-band equalizer for optimal tone shaping. When engaged, the Advanced Talk Over feature attenuates the midrange frequencies of playback music while the microphone is in use. Additionally, the microphone section of the mixer is outfitted with four different effects: reverb, echo + verb, octaver and pitch.
High Quality Audio
The DJM-5000 utilizes a 24-bit/96kHz A/D converter and 32-bit DSP in the mixing process. The mixer employs a short signal path designed to reduce inherent noise, a high performance power supply to stabilize voltage, and shielded RCA inputs.

Additional Functions

Digital Inputs: Two RCA coaxial inputs allow you to connect digital sources.
Peak Level Meters: Each channel features a multi-colored, 10-segment LED meter to view audio levels at a glance.
3-Band EQ: High, Mid, and Low equalization can be set from -26dB to +6dB on each channel.
Crossfader Curve Adjust: The crossfader to be adjusted to any of three blend patterns.
Fader Start Play: The mixer can automatically start/cue a connected device such as Pioneer's CDJ or MEP players by simply sliding the cross fader or channel fader.
Rackmountable: The mixer has a 5U form factor that is easily mounted in a 19" rack.

Comments about Pioneer DJM-5000 4-Channel Professional Mobile DJ Mixer:

I carry this mixer separately in a padded mixer bag to the gigs. I am not using it in a rack mount situation. It is very easy to carry and just set on a table.

The mixer is well-built and gives off the impression it can last a long time.

Everything is easy to see, from the inputs/outputs to the dials.

Sound quality is what you'd expect, and it is fabulous.

I really love having the second set of XLR Outputs, which is the Zone output.

My only complaint, which is probably very samll, is the fact that Pioneer decided to hard wire the electrical plug cord instead of having the A/C power cord removable, like it is with a lot of other mixers. Should anything happen to the power cord, such as if it gets cut, you are out of luck.

I got it at the lowest price available at the time I purchased, which was at B&H. That was nice.

          I recommend this mixer.

Comments about Pioneer DJM-5000 4-Channel Professional Mobile DJ Mixer:

This is an amazing mixer!! It not only looks great but it's size is very convenient and the sound quality is great.

The effects for the microphones really comes in handy especially if your mic'ing up small bands and even for Karaoke use.

          I highly recommend this mixer.

The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is that I wish it offered effects to the channels as well.

Comments about Pioneer DJM-5000 4-Channel Professional Mobile DJ Mixer:

I do tons of weddings and other similar mobile gigs almost every Saturday and also play weekly club/lounge residencies on Thursdays and Fridays - some of which I use my own player/mixer combo (currently the MEP+3K+HDD in a compact SKB case). So I'm pretty much what you'd call a 50/50 DJ: half club, half mobile.

With that in mind, I must say it was a bit of a disappointment that the new 5K didn't incorporate the effects of the DJM-800. I was hoping for a 19" version of said mixer since I tend use my on-board effects at some point later in the DJ set, even when playing at weddings and silly mitzvahs. Personally, I would have been OK with paying more for this mixer and having those additional features including "global" fader-starts. The lack of phono in-puts is a relatively easy solution with an adapter - for those who, like myself, occasionally wanna mess around on wax (coz let's face it, VINYL ROCKS!!!). So I won't even touch on that.

HOWEVER, there's no denying that the new DJM-5000 does indeed bring some much needed improvements over the aging 3K especially to the mobile market. I for one LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the 2nd zone feature. Never again will I need to run across the dance floor to the other chill/lounge/cocktail room to change the music on the local iPod!!! The ability to specifically send announcements to the 2nd zone is also VERY handy. I also love the 96kHz/24-bit analog to digital converter (finally) and the digital in-puts; although some similar out-puts via the master would have been even more awesome.

I'm also ecstatic about the 3-mic option plus dedicated 3-band EQ pots for each - AND - the advanced "talk over". I'm also glad there are at least some effects, albeit just for the mic channels. The USB thing and MIDI control don't do much for me outside the studio at this point in time but I'm sure other jocks will appreciate the flexibility. Can't really comment on the Sound Maximizer until I use it but if it's anything like the BBE, it can't be a bad thing. I probably won't use it though coz as I understand it, it's meant to aid "lossy" mp3 play-back (WHICH I HATE ANYWAY) but we'll see.

I currently have among other gear 3x MEP-7000s (including the one in the crib/home studio which is tied to my faithful DJM-1000) plus 2x DJM-3000 mixers on the road tied to the other 2x MEPs. I, like other folks, have been waiting around for a new 19" mixer that actually complements the MEP as well as the 3K did for the CMX-3000 players so that the field equipment can have a more updated aesthetic.

Also, the faders on this mixer are perfectly stiffened - way better than the 3K.
