Pretty easy to use and does just what it should. Would be 5 stars except that both units (I exchanged the first) had a short in the selector dial that required the operator to hold in place to get the reading. The second unit had a similar short but was less of an issue. It is adequate for the price.

This thing works great. It looks sturdy and packs a lot at this size. I tend to use more and more Pyle Pro products, because they are generally speaking the best bang for the buck at their price range.

I bought this to test all of the different types of cable that I use in my home recording studio. It works very well once you understand how to use it. The manual that comes with it is not well written and can be hard to understand. The best way to see how to use it is to find a video on line and watch it. Box seems to be solid and well built and I like being able to test several different types of cables with the same tester.

A lot of tester for the money! Does everything I need it to, has already saved me time and money.

Not the best in fit and finish, the battery door was a bit wonky and may not last many battery changes. A piece of gaffer's tape may be the new battery cover before long.

I use the PCT-40 to test XLR and 1/4" TRS cables for a small portable sound setup for our church. This is the first cable tester I have ever owned. Out of the box it worked well. Very solid metal housing and construction. Wish it gave more thorough instructions and explanation of what the lights mean (some interference or no interference).

I use this item in a industrial and non industrial areas. I work for a local city and use this for test all wires that are of age and even new ones. I make the repairs to everything from cable tv to audio in our ice rink. The DPW yard has security things that are tested when they act up. I let this on the ground to get a cable for a build and a folk lift ran over it. IT STILL WORKS! I bought this as an upgrade to a different tester so i found it easy to use. I also like the USB feature on the item. It helped me find a problem.

The Pyle PCT-40 12 in 1 audio cable tester is a solid product - holding it in your hand, you get the feeling that it can withstand some abuse. The yellow metal casing encloses a truly impressive amount of possibilities. You can test 12 commonly used cable types, making this tester very helpful and a great bargain.

The biggest problem is interpreting the readings. Not that they aren't immediately obvious to the eye, because there they are, big and bright on the face of the unit. The issue is that the instructions (printed on the back of the box) don't clearly explain what you should look for when testing a cable. Yes, there is a listing of the combinations, but they aren't written in clear English - for some users, they will require serious brain-bending to figure out. I'd recommend that Pyle update their instructions, using color illustrations to clearly describe a good or bad test result for each cable type.

The Pyle PCT-40 cable tester looks and feels terrific, and it delivers accurate results. The problem is the long learning curve needed to understand the different result combinations.

I was looking for a cable tester and came across this unit while doing a google search. I purchased it because of the large number of different cables it could test and the reasonable price. It works great and the build is solid. It's a time saver in the studio. My only problem with the unit is that there's the wrong end connector for USB. Most USB cables have a slim end on one side and a more square boxy end on the other(forgive my ignorance for not knowing the proper name.) This cable tester has two slim ends and I don't have a single USB cable that has two slim ends. This seems to be an oversight in the design. It's definitely not a deal breaker because I really don't need to test USB cables all that often. I mostly use it for XLR, 1/4', RCA, MIDI and Speakon cables. It handles these tasks very well. I have recommended this unit to friends and it has definitely been a very useful addition to my studio. If the USB issue was fixed I'd give it 5 stars. I'd give it 4 1/2 if I could.

I purchase this tester (just in case to see if any of my cables go bad).95% of my cables are Mogami and 5% Hossa. I did tested all of them and all are in perfect condition.

Very useful cable tester. Kind of large but better heavy than have it grow legs. I would pay extra for accessories such as banana plug test leads. I love the USB connector but had to buy an adapter to turn one side to USB B male. I know of no USB connectors with USB type A on both ends. Also wish it had a 1/8th inch TRS and 4 conductor TRRS testing jacks. One other accessory that would be nice is an Edison adapter to test regular 110 v. extension cords.

While I use it mostly for Audio cable testing, having DMX and USB ports also is terrific. Also, it has the great advantage of giving me pin numbers if there is a fault, making repairs much simpler. A very useful tool.
