The Vivitar Battery Grip provides the power you need for the Canon EOS 40D and 50D SLR digital cameras. It adds to the power by using 2 BP-511A rechargeable, high-capacity batteries. In addition, the battery pack provides a vertical shutter release, that makes holding the camera in the vertical orientation as easy and secure as in the horizontal position.
The versatility of using the Battery Grip is three fold. Two BP-511A rechargeable batteries will allow you many hours of uninterrupted shooting. Plus the vertical shutter release will make vertical shooting as comfortable as the horizontal format.This grip also comes with an adapter that allows you to place six "AA" batteries for even longer extended shooting times.REVIEW SNAPSHOT®

I use this grip on a Canon 40D and do nature and family photos. The grip is easy to use and attach and works great so far. The grip does add some weight but the ability to have the power is worth it to me.

I am a photographer for a local paper and cover a lot of sports. This product is awesome with controling the camera during shots that are coming at me quickly. Keeps the camera powered up for more consistancy when shooting several shots. I have no not so great comments at this time.

I purchased a battery grip for my 50D when I got my first camera. I liked it so much I decided to get one for my other 50D.
It does make the camera heavier. I've gotten used to the weight and don't think anything about the extra weight at all.
I"ve had the batteries (2, does not come with grip) last for about 4 weeks with minimal use.
You can't go wrong with this product. I'm very happy with it.
