I researched all the high-end carbon fiber tripods and decided on the CT314 based on the tripod specifications, features, other reviews and blog discussions. I needed a sturdy tripod for a Canon 500mm f4L IS USM with Wimberley mount, plus accessories like a wireless remote. I was willing to pay the price for a well engineered CF tripod and I was not disappointed.

All the joints/parts fit with close tolerance so it is extremely stable even when the legs and center column are fully extended. If anyone ever invents a tandom Wimberley-type mount this tripod could support twice the weight of my gear. It will easily support the 600mm lens.

It sets up and breaks down quickly with only a 1/4 to 3/8 turn of the leg locks. Other tripod leg locks require a full turn or more. This adds time to set-up/breakdown.

It's also great if you are tall. I'm 6'3" and with the legs fully extended my chin comes right to the top column when it is in the down position. Add the lens in a Wimberley II mount and it's right at eye level.

The 8X CF CT314 comes with a quality padded case with shoulder strap, tool kit with wrench and Allen head keys, and three steel spiked feet for the legs. These are all part of the "bonus kit".

It is a bit heavy so you won't want to backpack with it but for short hikes a wildlife photographer could sling this gear over the shoulder without fear that something might slip or break. The tripod is extremely well engineered and the build is of the highest quality. If you are using a 500mm or greater lens this is an excellent tripod. I have no doubt the CT214 is sufficient for a 400mm lens on a ballhead or Wimberley mount.

This tripod was on backorder from three resellers for about a month but I was patient and waited rather than select another brand. I'm glad I did.

    Not for me

I really wanted to like this tripod. Price was reasonable, size was right for me (I'm 6'2".) Unfortunately, I thought it was unstable and returned it.

Comments about Induro Carbon 8X CT314 Tripod:

Bought the CT314, my first carbon fiber tripod, for it's height without extending the center column, which I will replace with the shorter version in order to shoot low. That would have been a nice option at purchase. It's a bit bulkier than I expected, but lighter than I expected, also. It sets up quickly, and the twist locks seem secure. I'm very pleased with my purchase. Minus one star as I haven't had it long enough to check it's durability.

Comments about Induro Carbon 8X CT314 Tripod:

This tripod is built like a tank. I ordered both the CT314 and CT214 as I was undecided in which would better fit my needs. After much consideration, the bulkier size of the 314 meant it had to go back to B&H. I just didn't need the additional size for my set-up. It is not substantially longer when folded than the 214 but significantly larger when extended.

Comments about Induro Carbon 8X CT314 Tripod:

This was recommended by B&H for my purposes and I am very happy with the quality and performance. I shoot with a Canon 7D and Sigma 150-500 lens and this tripod provides the stability and ease of handling I need. It is top shelf quality and rock solid. Coupled with a Sirui K-20-X ball head to round out the system, I could not be more satisfied.

Comments about Induro Carbon 8X CT314 Tripod:

I bought the Induro CT314 (with the Induro BHL3 ball head) because I wanted more height and stability than my previous aluminum tripod could offer. After the first full day of use (doing eight real estate shoots), I am very impressed. I am six feet tall, and with the legs extended and the center column down, the camera is a few inches higher than my eye level. With the center column extended, the reach is nearly seven feet (at least high enough that I need a step stool). With the Induro BHL3 ball head, this combo weighs in at five pounds, which I think will be fine for hiking and landscape shooting. The legs slide smoothly, and the twist locks are snug and secure. The foam on the upper part of the legs is very comfortable for holding/carrying/grip. I am really happy with this purchase, especially considering the price for a carbon unit like this. The other value "bonus" is that it comes with a very nice soft carrying case with tools.

A good, sturdy, lightweight tripod. I'm 6'3"; I normally use it without extending the lowest leg section (or just partially extending it), but when I want to shoot something high overhead I can extend all sections and get under the camera without gymnastics. I replaced the center column with an ELA-3 so raising the column is not an option.Tripod comes with a nice case/bag that protects the pod and my ballhead while traveling.

Comments about Induro Carbon 8X CT314 Tripod:

I bought this as a travel tripod that could handle my 500mm f4 combination, but have recently field-tested it compared to my Gitzo 3530LSV in cold and relatively windy conditions with my 800mm f5.6. It's about an 80% match for the Gitzo, despite the fourth leg section - and at 6'2" I don't need to extend that fourth leg section all the way and the center column remains down. Assuming the CT313 would be a little more rigid this range of tripods looks to be an excellent value and perform well. Construction appears solid but it'll take many months of use to assess long-term reliability.

Comments about Induro Carbon 8X CT314 Tripod:

Ive held off for a few months before I wrote a review just to make sure this tripod held up. I shot for years with an aluminum Gitzo and really liked it. I travel a lot for magazine work and had to start to lighten my load when flying. The Gitzo is nice but heavy especially with a 410 head on it. When I looked in to the Gitzo equivalent carbon fiber tripod it was over $900. I really wanted it but couldn't justify the price. I had a $89 rebate from B&H and the Induro was on sale for $[$]. So I got a great deal but was real suspicious of it's quality. I made the mistake of buying a cheep calumet brand carbon fiber tripod and it just fell apart in a matter of weeks. The fitting were the legs meet the neck never stayed tight. But this Induro is great. Everything is still very tight and works really smoothly. I use a Canon 5D MK III with a variety of TS-E lenses and I have never had an issue. It is super light and collapses (when I remove the head) into a small Temba Car case. I think the 410 head is heaver. I would highly recommend this tripod to anyone looking at moving up from a aluminum tripod. I'm sure the Gitzo is a great tripod but this is 1/2 the price and works great.

I haven't had much time with it, as I just purchased it, but from what I have seen so far, I highly recommend it. Plus, it has a great warranty.

I use this tripod especially for landscapes with a Nikon D800 and lenses like 70-200 or 80-400 and I had great results even at low shutter speed (with mirror up and a cable release).Very quick to open and close the legs and easy to adapt it to rough terrain.I'm using it with an Induro BHD2 ballhead, they work perfectly together. It is a very good compromise between the right weigh and reliability.

Comments about Induro Carbon 8X CT314 Tripod:

I currently own the lightweight CT114 and a heavy aluminum Manfrotto 3221WN. Was ISO a sturdier tripod that gave me height and no center column to replace the Manfrotto. Looked at RRS, Gitzo and Feisol. Settled on this CT314 due to price and past Induro experience. Topped with a BH55 on the optional short center column, it is a nice combo. The setup is only 2lb lighter than my Manfrotto setup but worlds difference in the sturdiness. I'm 5'9" and I dont have to fully extend the smallest leg sections making it more sturdier and giving me the extra height for uneven surfaces. I would prefer the RSS but it was twice the price and any little extras cost more money. This Induro included spikes, nice carryingcase and tool pouch with tools. The free extended (10 years total) warranty and NY office also is a good point in case of any problems. I maybe prematurely giving this 5 stars as its only a month old, but I now have a nice tripod combo, CT114 for lightweight and now the CT314 for when I need a more solid tripod.

CT-314 is a great tripod with versatility and sturdiness. I found this tripod accidentally on the web while I was looking at a different highly rated tripod. I am glad I found this one. This is the tripod for me to last forever.

I really wanted to like this tripod. Price was reasonable, size was right for me (I'm 6'2".) Unfortunately, I thought it was unstable and returned it.

I've used this tripod for photographing birds and waterfalls. Its rock solid but light enough to hike with. To date I've been very pleased with it and not having to pay for the accessories (carrying case, tool kit, and spiked feet) was a bonus.

I purchased this product as a replacement for my aluminum tripod. This is lighter in weight and really is perfect for trekking to landscapes and hiking for photographs. Being 6'3" this tripod is even comforatable for me without the center column extended. One big advantage is the weatherproof locks and the interchangable spiked feet when outdoors. Excellent alternative to higher priced Gitzo and RRS tripods.

This is really my first serious tripod, so I don't have a lot to compare it to. My first impression as I took it out of the box was "Wow! What a tank!" It really is a tank. It is built very solidly. Fit and finish is excellent. It is easily adjustable as well. I bought the short column upgrade with this, and I can get it all the way to the ground for macro shots. I use this for wildlife photography and am on my belly sometimes, so this works great! I'm VERY happy with this purchase.

Comments about Induro Carbon 8X CT314 Tripod:

My research before making this purchase included a side-by-side comparison of Gitzo and Induro models - I bought the Induro. From spider to leg tips, everything about this tripod is top notch - the attention to detail is evident. The five-year warranty, included tool kit, and tripod case all reinforce the quality of this product.

Field use has verified that the wide stance of the CT314 is rock solid - equipment used so far includes a Canon 5D MkII with a variety of lenses up to the 400mm L IS. In the pre-dawn winter cold of the Idaho mountains, all functions of the tripod have been exceptionally smooth. The limited twist leg locks allow quick deployment with secure locking and the closed-cell foam on all three upper leg sections make the CT314 much nicer to handle than my heavier aluminum tripod.

If you want/need very low-level positioning, you will want to purchase the short center column accessory. Change over from one center column to the other takes about a minute using the tools included with the Induro tripods.

The CT314 with ball head mounted fits nicely in the included case.

Comments about Induro Carbon 8X CT314 Tripod:

This is a superior tripod, and it comes with tools and a carrying case, plus leg wraps, none of which come with the Gitzos. The overall quality is outstanding.

Only one drawback: the center column is very long and is not split. If you buy this tripod, be sure to also buy the Benro short center column; otherwise you won't be able to get very close to the ground (you shouldn't be using the center column to elevate the tripod anyway).
