On the good side:
Outwardly the ballhead is attractive and looks extremely well made: precision milled, nice finish, sturdy body. Also, though I am by no means coming close to taxing the ballhead's weight contraint (maybe someday?), my camera: D7000 w/MB-D11 battery pack and 70-300mm VR, once locked down stays put at any angle. Similarly, the Arca-Swiss type quicklease locks the camera in place without any signs of loosening on it's own.
Now the downside:
The tension knob tends to go from too loose to too tight very quickly, panning is a bit stiff and, what looks like, a plastic cup holding the ball worries me i.e. will it hold up over time. I get the feeling I have to be very careful with how much I tighten things down; but maybe that's just me.
A big thing that added to my worry is that a metal ring/washer fell off the base of the ballhead when I was removing it from my tripod (Induro AT213; will also review); not a portent of good things to come. The ring covers a series of recessed Torx head screws and appears to have been held in place by a light dab of glue. Granted, once the head is on the tripod the metal ring is extraneous; it's just the idea of something falling off the head so soon speaks of cost cutting.
Please note that if the BHD2 ballhead remains as good a product 5 years from now as it appears now (apart from the ring) I would easily give this ballhead 5 stars; all in all I do like it.

I looked around for a smooth action ball head and got exactly what I wanted. It's a great ball head and I may buy more Induro products in the future.

Really glad that I chose to go with Induro! This paired with the Induro Carbon 8X CT-214 tripod makes for a great setup. Light weight and very stable. I haven't tested this anywhere near the weight rating, but there is virtually no creep.

Comments about Induro BHD2 Ballhead:
This is my first "real" Ballhead. I shopped a few brands and decided against going higher end with an Acratech, Arca Swiss or Kirk. I believe you get a very good value for your dollar with this model. I use it on an AT214 set of legs for general photography. The ball locks very securely and the drag works well. I have two negatives with the design. The panorama function is labeled with a sticker as to the angle and the QR does not stop at 90 degrees when using the slot for portraits. I also had a bent main knob on my unit when I recieved it which snapped off upon applying a bit of manforce to straighten it. Induro replaced the knob with an overnight shipment. So minus one star for the knob and gain one for customer service.

I can't compare this to other ballheads because this is the first one I have owned. I'm just getting used to how different it is from my previous equipment. So far it seems great. It holds my canon 7d with 100-400mm zoom fine.

Haven't used it much yet, it's a perfect fit for my Induro carbon fiber tripod.
They are both very stable and very smooth operating. I especially like the ease of use and the quick set up time. I would recommend this to any photographer, whether just starting out or a pro.

I replaced a Manfrotto ballhead with my Induro BHD2 and have no regrets. The BHD2 is a solid piece of equipment that is easy to use, not that ball heads are complicated. I like the fact that the adjustment knobs are large and can easily be manipulated even when wearing heavy gloves. There are no quick throw latches or parts to get caught up on gear. I don't have to worry about my BHD2 getting scratched or dinged up when on the move. I am an Army photographer and need my gear to be solid, tough and able to hold up to the elements.

Comments about Induro BHD2 Ballhead:
I got this ballhead with the Induro CT-214 tripod. When it arrived at first I felt that it might be a bit much for my Nikon D90 with 18-200 lens, and I contemplated for a while about returning it and going with the smaller model. But it is made to "go" with that size tripod, the smaller heads go with smaller tripods. So I kept it and have been using it for a while. And now I'm very happy I didn't return it. It works great with the tripod, it's easy to use, and it looks and feels very solid. Most importantly it does a great job locking the camera into place and keeping it there. The nobs move fluidly and I like the tension knob that allows adjusting how easily the ball moves. At first when tipping the camera sideways for vertical shots I felt a bit awkward. First one has to find the groove that allows tipping the head 90 degrees, and then you have to open the knob for the lateral movement. I felt restricted, the rig seemed off-balance with the camera hanging off the side. But then I bought an L-Bracket and that problem was solved. This has really nothing to do with that particular ballhead, but with all of them. If I want to be picky, when I do macro there is a little noticeable movement of the camera when it is locked into place, but it's not much and once aware one can easily compensate for it. And I might like a clamp better than the screw release for the plate. The screw is probably safer and the clamp might be 3 nanoseconds quicker.Maybe there is a RRS one that doesn't move at all on macro when it's locked into place, and that has a clamp release, but it's also twice as expensive. For what I use it for the BHD-2 is a great ballhead and don't regret the purchase one bit.

Comments about Induro BHD2 Ballhead:
I just purchased this ballhead after a few years of struggling with a crummy tripod/ballhead combo that didn't support my d300 well. After reading many reviews I felt that the Induro product line seemed to be a great balance between price and quality. I wasn't mistaken. This ballhead is super sturdy and holds my d300 and 18-200 lens rock solid. Easy to use and looks well built as well. Ever so slight drift when tightening the main locking knob but that seems to be par for the course with this type of ballhead. I got this under the teacher/student discount and for the price it cannot be beat. I would HIGHLY recommend this product.

Comments about Induro BHD2 Ballhead:
This ball head is an excellent compliment to the Induro CT-314 tripod on which it is mounted. The ball as well as the panning movements are silky smooth. Use with a variety of telephoto lenses has demonstrated rock solid restraint with everything locked down. Another feature that is greatly appreciated is that the knobs are designed for easy use in winter conditions while wearing gloves.

Comments about Induro BHD2 Ballhead:
Several years when I upgraded my support rig from the WobbleMaster 4000 with jiggly head, I bought an Induro alloy tripod. I splurged on the RRS BH-40 head. That rig has served me well. Recently at an After Dark Education event, I bought the new lighter Induro legs, which necessitated a new ball head purchase. This time I opted for the Induro BHD2 which comes in at a more manageable price point vs the RRS. Absolutely no regrets. This head, unlike the RRS version has the more common screw mechanism for locking the arca swiss plate into place. My wife and I have both used the BHD2 with the 400mm f/5.6 L or the 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS II with no hint of shake. I've only had the head for a couple of weeks but it looks very solidly built and is perfect for my demanding needs and my demanding CFO (wife)!

This is my frist Ballhead so I can't compare it to another. It looks good. It feels good. It comes with tools and a 3/8x1/4 inch bushing in case your tripod has a1/4 inch mounting. It holds all my gear with ease. The knobs are easy to use and do not require force to lock in place. I think it's a good ballhead at a good price. I gave it 4 stars only because when you adjust the ballhead so that the ball will rotate with some force applied there a difference in friction you feel as you move the ball moves around. Im being picky though. It doesn't affect operation. Just something I noticed. I like the ballhead, think I made good choice.

Comments about Induro BHD2 Ballhead:
This is a large ball head. The product views do you necessarily help you know that. Taking it out of the box it seemed well built. It would probably servie well on a large very sturdy tripod. I was looking for something smaller and lighter for a monopod. So I returned it. I gave it 4 stars for that reason.

I use this on my Induro C314 tripod and it is great. The friction control helps with slight movements and the learning curve was very short. Switching from the old pan head saves so much weight when traveling.

Ive used this for just a few weeks three times. But as far as out of the box ease of use, this head is great. I ordered two extra plates so change out is a breeze. very smooth operation, the fat ball holds firmly when camera is at 90 degrees. Knobs are easy to adjust and having each a different size makes it easy to adjust without looking, as long as you dont loosen the Arca plate knob, but it has stops so it wont slide out unless you really back it out. biggest item mounted so far was 80-200 and body and body with battery grip attached.

This ballhead works great. The price is about half the price of RRS. I also purchased the L- bracket from Kirk. I am 100% satisfied with these items. Very rigid and sturdy and it locks down tight and does not move around. I am a seasoned pro and I go with things that work. This does.....
