I use this product for travel and hiking in the Colorado Back country. Camera compartment easily handles my Canon EOS 7D with Tamron 280 mm, Canon 100-400 mm L lens, Canon Speedlight 580EX, multiple filters, and assorted notions. Room remains for several smaller lenses. When traveling, I use the computer compartment for my 13" Dell laptop and charger. When hiking, I use the computer compartment to hold my CamelBak bladder -- works great! Impressed how light the pack feels when its fully loaded. Easy to lift and feels quite comfortable once on my back. My wife tried it on and agreed on its comfort. Size conforms to airline carry-on specs. The personal gear compartment is adequate for jacket, lunch, and various small electronic devices -- cell phone, PDA, GPS, MP3, etc. Convenient to access all compartments with multiple entry ports to camera equipment. Three shoulder strap options provide flexibility though I tend to configure as a conventional backpack most often. In summary, is well designed, functional, and comfortable.

This camera pack is fine for holding gear but after three months of use on day hikes I think the design has several drawbacks for carrying a full load of camera gear for several hours, whether on a trail or around town.

USE: To hold gear when I am primarily out to take pictures. I've used it around town, on trail hikes and on off-trail bushwhacks. I use a D7000 and have a mixture of pro, semipro and consumer lenses designed for both DX and FX.

PROS: The camera storage compartment is designed well and is easily configured into a variety of options. Access is good. I particularly like having side access both sides of the pack. The other compartments are also useful. The tripod attachment is a smart design and works well. I'm now trying to retrofit it onto another pack.

CONS: The shoulder strap design is awkward (probably because of the complications caused by trying to have a sling/pack hybrid design). More importantly, there's no sternum strap. The lack of a sternum strap means this doesn't carry a full load of gear without sagging and pulling. it's also difficult to adjust and the extra material on the straps gets in the way. I've tried to solve this with a velcro strap I use to provide chest support across the straps, but the bottom line is loading this pack with a DSLR, three lenses and other gear is more than it can comfortably handle.

BOTTOM LINE: This is probably fine for around town, lightly loaded. I'm using it now for storage, having moved to Clik Elite packs for real trail use.

Comments about Kata D-3N1-33 3 in 1 Sling Backpack, Large:

I have had the Kata 3n1-30 for three years and my only complaint was that it didn't have a laptop sleeve. I finally took the plunge and got this pack and sold the old one. The 3n1 series is fantastic. It holds a ton of gear with easy assess to all of it. The variety of different strap configurations make it comfortable for short or long days and getting to your camera takes just a few seconds.

The only downside I have is that as a 5'11" guy, the hip straps don't quite make it all the way down to my hips so they're not as helpful as they could be. However, that would require the backpack be even longer than it is so I don't think it's a huge deal. They do still help with heavier loads on longer days. Overall I think it's a great pack for an excellent price and I have recommended it to several friends who also like it.

Comments about Kata D-3N1-33 3 in 1 Sling Backpack, Large:

I bought this product to consolidate three bags into one - I can carry 15" MBP along with two D800's and 5 lenses. The bag is very sturdy. Everything fits snugly and the backpack offers multiple options regarding gear access. It took a week or so to figure out the best configuration for myself and my shooting style. This bag will accommodate a mid-size pro-video camera - I am able to stash a sony EX-1 plus 2 big batteries, cards, and a large shotgun mic after you unzip the top and bottom compartment separator - very cool! The bag itself is very comfortable - one downside is the lack of any belts or straps on the exterior to attach a tripod or other auxiliary bags (such as a lens case) - not a deal breaker at all as is the nature of this system.

Comments about Kata D-3N1-33 3 in 1 Sling Backpack, Large:

I've used this bag only 1 time so far, switching from using Lowpros' Sling Shot 302. I only carry my DLSR, with battery pack, & EF-S 17-55mm lens (mid sized); along with a large flash and some minor peripherals. Most bag space is devoted to my family's travel needs, requiring my need for a large bag... I bought this bag with the intention of being able to carry a longer lens (EF 70-200mm) as well as my netbook while traveling longer. It's dimensions match AA & Delta's carry-on sizes--which set my max size.

Overall, I'm very happy with the bag for a number of reasons:

            1) having different shoulder strap options helps immensely with comfort and fatigue over a long day
            2) I'm a big guy (6'7") and the shoulder straps work pretty well for me and the bag does sit nicely on my back (9 hours at Disneyland yesterday and I'm good today!)
            3) side/sling access from both sides is very convenient
            4) some of the internal padded dividers have small Velcro faces that let them act like doors, so I can easily access my flash without having to take the bag off or forcibly reach through the dividers
            5) there are a lot of configuration options beyond moving the internal padded dividers (zippers everywhere!)
            6) it appears to be made as well as the Lowprow--although the zippers don't appear to be as robust as those used by Lowpro.

I've only had minor issues optimizing the internal layout so far, but I think I'll be able to sort them out without any major modifications. It also looks like it will carry the long lens no problem (once I get some other family items out of the way).

This bag is great for getting my gear, my laptop, and more onto the plane when I travel. It fits well under the seat provided you aren't on a plane that has "in seat entertainment" where there are big plastic boxes bolted on the the undercarriage of the seat.

The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that I notice the gear shifts around more than a little bit. Not to the point of being insecure, but it can make it awkward to extract the camera or other items.

I bought this bag to be able to access my gear without placing down the bag and enough space for a D700 with an attatched 70-200 and further 24-70 + 14-24.

The backpack offers enough space. Its comfortable. Offers good access. But the weak point of the bag are the dividers resp. their hook and loop fastener. They are not strong enough to hold heavy lenses in place when the cam is outside. The lenses are all on a heap after a while...--> only 3 stars

I needed a bag to hold as much or as little of my photo gear as I wanted to take with me, as well as a means to store my laptop or tablet. I really liked the layout and carrying options of the Kata 3N1 series and the 33 seemed like the obvious choice, since my next planned purchase is a 70-200mm 2.8 lens. It easily holds my Nikon D90 with vertical grip and lens attached, two other prime lenses, SB-800 flash, charger and extra batteries, TTL cord and remote triggers in the main storage compartments. I also was a fan of the extra storage in the top compartment and the included rain cover.
It of course is heacy when you load it down with all your gear and a laptop, but so would any bag that can hold as much as this can. My only wishes for this bag would be a chest strap and some method to attach a tripod other than having to purchase a separate holder.

Have taken the bag on one trip so far. The bag is quite large and has room for a lot of gear. It can get somewhat heavy but is still pretty comfortable.

Got this bag to replace an LP AW300 Slingshot which finally broke a zipper. The Kata has better organization and more thoughtfull design, but is really best used as a backpack.

The LP Slingshot's shoulder strap is much broader and more comfortable to wear with heavy loads over longer periods of time. If Kata would design a REAL shoulder style bag with a single comfey strap and a back material that won't snag clothes, it would be a clear winner.

Great bag for the price. Going to use it as a travel bag for quick access to the Nikon D700 (+battery grip & L-bracket) with 24-70 2.8 attached, 70-200 2.8 and SB900. Top pocket fits 300 2.8 nicely. The laptop sleeve/pocket fits my 13" MacBook (up to 15.4"), this was the main inexpensive option/reason I chose this bag. It can fit any 3 medium zooms/primes if you opt to not carry either the 70-200 or speed light. Side pockets for smaller/flatter items like cleaning gear, spare batteries and memory cards. Wide base to stand upright and a padded handle.
Cons: lots of zippers access that you need to take time to familiar yourself with. Dividers seem to need a little more hook and loop material. A little bulky for a casual day out shooting. Seems better suited for events and school sports shooters.

I use this bag a lot; especially when I am on the move. It is compact, yet can contain all my gear. It is still new and I am yet to find and faults with it. Ihighly reccomend it!

I purchased to carry my gear when doing engagment photo shoots. I can Carry a D7000, NIkon 80-200 ED, Tamron 28-75, 3 sb6000, pocket wizards, and other small accesories. I like the accesiblity that all my gear has. I don't reach to it as often as I do during weddings, whre I take my boda lens bag instead.

Very well made and the sling function is good. Access to the lower section-the cameras and lenses- is rather clumsy and too tight. The yellow interior is an excellent idea. Generally I like the bag provided I do not need really rapid access to the equipment
