Now, I'm not going to completely trash the Monster MDT, but for any readers who are true audiophiles, I hope some honesty will be appreciated. It seems like MOST of the people who rave about the MDT's are guys who have never listened to a higher quality IEM than their Ipod Earbuds, or some $60 Sony or Bose earphones they got from [@], and consequently they are blown away by the sound of the MDT. There is honestly not anything wrong with that, but calling them "The Best IEM out there" is beyond excessive. There is no doubt that the MDTs provide a decent amount of somewhat bloated sounding bass and a slightly smoother mid and treble, but I one would hope that anyone who truly loves jazz would bypass the MDT's. These are, simply put, earphones that are made so that music lovers who lack any real knowledge about audiophile-grade sound can brag about their super fancy Monster earphones. They may as well have put rhinestones all over them.If you're looking to impress your trendy, music loving and materialistic friends, then definitely go for these. However, if you are looking for great sound quality, there are many universal IEM's that are less expensive or in the same price range that have sound quality that puts the Monster MDTs to shame. Just to name a few, the Westone UM3x, Earsonics SM3, Westone 3 or 4, J-phonic K2 SP, Audio Technica ATH-CK100 and the ATH-CK10. Using a single dynamic driver at this price is a bit ludicrous considering you can get universal monitors with 3, or even 4, Balanced Armature drivers, complete with crossovers, to give you dedicated woofer, midrange, and tweeter for harder hitting bass, silky smooth vocals, and high end that is crisp without any roll-off.The sound of the MDTs is bass heavy, just like all Monster products. IT can hit the low notes and it does have decent impact. However, as I said above, it doesn't have the speed or accuracy to keep the bass sounding clean and not fat and bloated. If you only care about bass, then these give it to you in spades, but most Jazz lovers ( and other music lovers as well ) actually care about ALL of their tunes sounding good. The midrange overcompensates for the excessive bass and midbass bloat, leaving it too forward, and yet also lacking in clarity. It is warm sounding and does boast a decent smoothness that folks surely appreciate, but it lacks to separation, detail, and accuracy of its counterparts. The MDT's have a very subdued treble. Thats not to say it is completely lacking, but it seems as if, in an effort to prevent sibilance, they toned down everything above . It doesn't sound "bad" per se, just seems to be hiding in the shadows, and unable to compete with the bass. The one place that the MDTs do actually stand out is the soundstage. The vocals are the only thing that tend to confine the soundstage, but other instruments do give a wider and more spacious sound that several other IEMs. Timbre is ok, but not near what one would expect from a "Jazz" specific high-end IEM. I'm not saying that the MDT's are a complete bust....simply that for the price, there are definitely several other IEM's that one should consider.

I use my Miles Davis Tributes to Mix/Master Trance sets, listen to various styles of EDM, plus Classical, Jazz, Opera & Choir.
The frequency response (once you find the correct tips for your ear canals, & i can't stress the importance of this step for driver placement / overall acoustic response!!) is the best in-ear experience I have ever had.
Solid surprising Bass!! Crystal Highs, Crisp Mids. These outperform many of my other headphones, inc. my active (noise cancelling) on-ear headphones.
I agree with CJW in S.Korea, the MDTs demand uncompressed audio as you WILL notice an audible frequency loss with these remarkable drivers.
FWIW, my first pair arrived new in the box with the left earphone intermittant.. (due to faulty cabling quality control. Monster, sorry, but whoever signed off the cables for the MDT line needs a serious kick in the pants, total junk quality paired with such great phones). My replacements arrived & after a few days of playing with various tips, I found my perfect fit with the factory pair of silicons that shipped with boxset. Don't waste your time with the SuperTips sample set that comes with it, they are a mismatch for these top of the line tributes (IMHO)
The Miles Davis Tributes hit the nail on the head:
Life IS too short to listen to bad headphones!!!!!

Comments about Monster Power Miles Davis Tribute Jazz In-Ear Headphones:
I have heard pretty all IEMs, and I can say that these are one of the best sounding IEMs out there. Base sounds rich and realistic, and the high notes don't sound at all coloured. All around these perform very well for just about any kind of music without colouring the sound. Evenly balanced. I highly recommend using these IEMs with uncompressed audio files only, as MP3s are lossy and are missing quite a bit of depth.

Comments about Monster Power Miles Davis Tribute Jazz In-Ear Headphones:
Compared to ue triplefi 10, UE provide more details and louder.
However, Miles has unique sweet sound character. Basically, it can handle any kinds of music. The silicone tip is excellent. it dramatically improves bass response.
Only bad thing is the coating material (metal, gold) on its surface. After using it everyday for 3 months, the coating became loose and peel off remaining only dark metal appearance.

I used to hear home Hi-Fi and want to bring the music along me, I got Monster MD for over a year. It sounds good, dynamic, energetic with clean and sharp performance. Pretty all rounded, not strong on bass as Pro Copper, but just all rounded. I like this one. Fast and clear music its bring implies your style. If you want something gentle, classic, you need other brand, like IE8 I have it, too.
Anyway, for Monster MD, I rate it high.

I am an audiophile who also owns the Coppers & the UE Triple-Fi's(sound is fair at best). While the Coppers are outstanding in all respects, flat response, imaging & overall quality, the Tributes have the edge in a slightly forward mid-range which squeezes out the last drop of incredible detail just as if you were there. Clean, uncolored sound that amazes me every time I listen to them which is every day. To add to that, the total package from cases to the cd set to the Supertips makes for what I consider to be the best overall IEM offering on the market today. A wonderful looking product with excellent build quality in a limited edition offering. What else can one ask for? Most important is the "you are there" sound from jazz, to rock to classical, plain & simple.

Had the Diddy beats until they were stolen from my desk. Picked these up for [$] and wished I had purchased these sooner. The diddy beats were fantastic but these are on a whole new level of greatness. I played a blu ray of The Eagles in Hell Freezes Over tour and it made a great performance even better. These things are awesome for heavy metal, light rock, hip hop, techno, jazz, and pretty much anything. I can listen to T.I. one second and be amazed and then switch to Andrea Bocelli immediately after and still be floored at how these sound! Great job Monster you made a long time customer from me!

Comments about Monster Power Miles Davis Tribute Jazz In-Ear Headphones:
Let me start by saying the MDT's are stylish, flashy and surprisingly comfortable despite their weight. I really dig the sound quality from these. Especially after the burn in time I've noticed a substantial difference as now the drivers' sound begins to behave more naturally. Though I would not classify these as reference monitors because of their incredible musicality. They reproduce just about every little hiccup and ghost beat without becoming annoying. I listen to a lot of hip hop music(mostly underground) but some mainstream pop rap. Unfortunately most underground suffers from poor work on the sound engineering end. I find I am listening to a more broad range of music now. I really appreciate artist like Led Zeppelin with the MDT's. I feel like Jimmy and Robert are right in front of me. As expected brass instruments sound very lively but not bright. String instruments really do the MDT's a lot of justice as well. The mid low end is by far the most impressive part of the frequency band for me. The hip hop bass heads are dying to hear they are create enough bass, they are plenty. In fact it the bass really feels like it's moving air(as it should). Heavy beats that artists like Cam'ron and Ice Cube make where the bass hits hard and often sound absolutely amazing. Some tracks no other ear buds or headphones I've had can handle. The MDT's do it accurately and even show some touch creating tonal differences on the low end where other earbuds just make a monotone thump. This tonal difference brings the whole beat to life. The upper band 18k-20k is tame in comparison. The MDT's don't quite hit as high and crisp as I'd like sometimes, but this is a tiny flaw. Furthermore if they did hit very high and bright it may take away from the overall balanced sound. Keep in mind I am no expert just a heavy listener. Take the time and try out all the supplied supertips, they make a huge difference. More over the different tips create different effects(too complicated to get into detail). The materials are indicative of the sound. Try them all out with different music, you'll find some that aren't good for hip hop work well for rock etc. I really like the firm foam tips, they really do the sturdy metal construction justice because they keep the sound tight. The only problem I foresee with these is their itsy bitsy cables that lead to the earbuds themselves, though the material housing is great for not drying out(I'm told) it's a little sensitive and soft. Especially to a high end product. It's like a newborn baby's skin. I really really wish when my headphone cables do break(inevitable) yeah I said it. That monster will upgrade them for me. I know I will be keeping my eye out for them to fess up and upgrade the cables. With that said absolutely love the Miles Davis Tribute earbuds. Just know that it's not realistic to think they are made to go out and bare the elements.

OK, I am siting here after a killer day of work and was happy to see my Miles Davis Tributes had arrived, well, the replacement set. My first set's right ear piece came apart for some reason. I bought mine as a demo pair, so god only knows how they were treated before I got them. I called Monster[...] and they went back the next day, but only the actual headphones. About a week later, today, I received an entire new package unwrapped, as if I bought them new in the store. No questions asked, replaced just like that with new, not referbs! WOW!!! I use them with my iPod and mostly when flying, with music ranging from traditional jazz, to classic rock, chill, some rap, some pop, lot's of blues. Simply the best sounding in ear monitors I have ever encountered. Wide open, for in ear, crisp, deep, buttery mids. I also own the Dr. Beat Tours and feel almost as good about them. Of course, the Miles Davis are a bunch more than the Dre's. Having owned Ultimate Ears, Sures, Klipsch, Denon, I think I can safely say it is Monster from here on out! Best product, best service. Hard to find today! Well done!!!

It's got a great sound, and the deep bass notes were so filing that it fooled my body to think that my chest was vibrating from the heavy notes! Like most others, I immediately heard things in my favorite music that I had NEVER heard before. The MAIN reason for my 3-stars is that the cord is STUPIDLY short. I'm 6'2" and I do have a long'ish torso, but with the headphones in my ears and going down my back and to the iPod in my pocket while working around the house or playing my drums. . . .the cord BARELY reaches my iPod and keeps a constant, uncomfortable tension on my ears. When i opened this present on christmas day i was amazed cause my dad told me i wasn't getting them. When you open the box you are amazed with luxury. The headphones themselves look absolutely amazing. I didn't believe the cable was tangle free until i actually tested it. These headphones are the best ones i have ever tried, and i would never want any other ones. they are quite heavy for headphones because they weigh a lot because Monster have had to fit in an actual small speaker to get the sound quality. if you get them which i recommend, make shore your music isn't bad quality because you can easily hear it. the bass is awesome.

[...] the conclusion :ITS WORTH ITFirst Lets See what the Luxurious Looking Package contains for my very own package of MD i have bought :1. Monster Supertips [1 pair x Small-Med Size, 1 pair x Medium Size]2. Monster Superfoam tips [1 pair x Regular Size]3. Monster Silicon Tips [Each pair of S, M, L - Size]4. Miles Davis 'Kind of Blue' Legacy Edition Collector's Album5. Miles Davis Tribute Limited Pressed + Serial Numbered Hard Case6. Miles Davis Tribute Wallet Style Pouch7. Miles Davis Tribute Clip Pouch8. Miles Davis Tribute IEMand the other mini regular throw-ins such as tri-flanges etc.[INITIAL IMPRESSIONS]With the sound-signature of impression on the JAMz in mind, I had set high expectations on the MDs, Only to find the high to sound too harsh on slightly louder volumes before any burn-in, On my Creative Zen X-Fi, It pretty much retained JAMz's Sound Signature, but with slightly more detail and generally sounds shy and congested indicating a need of Driver Burn-In. While on my Cowon J3 Player the highs were extremely harsh if you tweak the volume only slightly louder, And thought I gonna regret my purchase.Until I Gave it at least a 40~50 Hours of Burn-In, That was where the enjoyment kicks in, and the more accurate part that i shall review on for Miles Davis[HIGH]Treble was appropriately done, Sparkle was there with satisfying amount, Despite not as smooth-curvy as the Fischer Audio's DBA-02, Treble Oriented isn't what MDs are made to do in the first place. And compared to Turbine Pro Copper and Gold, Its Treble is not as deliberate and artificial as Coppers while its extended nicely and not rolled off like the Golds, Offering a balance treading between the two.[MID]Here is where Miles Davis Tributes REALLY SHINES! Lush, Warm and Appropriately (which i emphasizes again) Forward-Leaning Mids, Its hard not to immerse in the way Miles Davis Tribute delivers their pleasant mid, The Type of Mid Rendition that will satisfy even the most fussiest of an audiophile.[LOW]In Compare to its closer lineage, Namely the Monster Turbine Pro Gold and Coppers, Its Bass is more than the Coppers, Sub ~ Mid-Bass were yet again, appropriately forward and extended in an amount more than the Monster Turbine Pro Coppers but not as cunning and vulgar bass like the Monster Turbine Pro Gold does --- Which its Bass is prominent and til the extend it can be heard creeping up into the MIDs and diluting it as a result.[SOUNDSTAGE]Its Soundstage certainly lives up to its gimmick on how you will experience a very 'LIVE Performance' in the Cosy Jazz Lounge Type of Listening Experience, Soundstage is cosy making you feel like the musics were being played at a cosy Jazz Lounge. Vocals were pretty intimate and the instrument seperation were great, Instrument Positioning is extremely impeccable.[CONCLUSION]They might seems to be hefty priced, but when you compare to its lil brother - Turbine Pro Copper - which is not priced anywhere lower plus it is not a limited pressing nor does it wins favor over the Miles Davis Tribute with its 'Trying too hard to throw you the details' Sound Signature, With all these Comparisons in mind, In my opinion the Miles Davis Tribute are certainly not anywhere too over-priced and its a great recommend to anyone with the money to grab them. For those who had the JAMz like i do and feel like considering them, here's something for you all - Compare to JAMz, Its bass impact is more stereo-positioned, Musicality from its excellent Instrument Positioning makes it much more fun and engaging than the JAMz, Not to lastly mention its Trademark MIDs also makes the music more intimate, With no true shortcomings and unlike other flagship IEMs such as IE8 which you may like it initially but always have things to complain about over the time. For the Miles Davis, Be Assured it will never be the case, While lastly they may not be a true reference level monitor IEMs, They do EVERYTHING very very right and is not picky to genre and highly forgiving on low quality music to even as low as 64kbps, something that is rare on the flagship regions of the IEM Competition Market.

I have waited two months for this set of earphones, but it's worth the waiting. The accessories are awesome, especially the Miles Davis CD, the music sounds great with these earphones, and you can hear every instrument playing in different distances. Also there are 16 eartips in the package. That's a lot more than regular in-ear headphones. Although the supertips are not as good as I expected. I feel more comfortable with comply foam tips. But the gel ones really provides with the best bass of all.
The earphones themselves are great. The construction looks sturdy and stylish. The wire is thinner than it looks on the pictures and it is really tangle free. Like other Monster headphones, the earphones are very suitable for hip-hop and dance music because it has great bass. The earphones sound greater when you listen to the Miles Davis CD.

I have been a professional audio engineer and musician for over 20 years. The quality surpasses the professional high-end in-ear monitors I have been using for years. If you are serious about music and quality sound, look no further. The response is flat and I heard frequencies reproduced throughout the entire spectrum with accuracy, balance and clarity.
