The 500GB StoreJet 25M Portable Hard Drive from Transcend is a portable USB 2.0 hard drive, intended for use with Windows, Mac, and Linux-based computers. Perfect for portable use, the drive draws power from the computer's USB port and meets US military drop-test standards.
You'll be able to backup your data with ease thanks to the drive's OneTouch Auto-Backup function. A plug and play design means that no drivers are necessary for installation. You'll know when the drive is on and accessing data thanks to the integrated LED activity light.

I got this hard drive for travel (I have an upcoming trip to India in mind) and I couldn't be happier. The price was so reasonable, the drive worked so well, and it was so small that I ordered another one after checking it out, so I have a back-up. Nothing more in the way of set up was required than to hook it up to the computer, it was that easy to use. One thing: you will need to get a powered multi-port USB hub for this drive, though I found one on-line for about $16. The drive has two USB connectors sprouting in a Y from the cord that connects to the drive. These two connectors plug into this hub and power the drive. The only extra thing you need to buy is the powered multi-port USB hub.

I do not know if it is good or bad, but I encountered some problems and was not able to communicate with the technical support to solve them. They quickly answered my first (stupid) question and stopped communicating after that.
Now the problem.
My intention was to use this drive as a hot backup. It supposed to sit at my working computer and silently copy all my work, so when I need to switch a computer I can just unplug the drive and plug it in an another computer.
I new that the drive contained a program to do just that. I was called StoreJet elite. But I found it difficult to use it for several reasons.
1.The program allowed me to save "bookmarks", but every time it started synchronization it asked me to close all browser windows and kept hanging until I did this. !!!!!!
2. It did not start automatically when a computer restarted (it started only when the drive was connected).
3. It did not keep the setting. It allowed to set a direction for synchronization (to computer, to drive or in both direction), but after restart it loosed the setting and resorted to the default setting.
4. It did not produce a warning before deleting all your valuable files from a computer if you happened to use a wrong setting. I am pretty absentminded person, so I can easily erase all my work without a reminder.
5. It crashed (the program, not the drive) at least one time a day.
I am not totally sure that all that problems are not my fault. May be I did something wrong. But all my attempts to communicate with the technical support failed. On every request I received an automatic response promising the quick contact and then nothing. So I assumed that the StoreJet elite program is not working, and without it the drive is just a drive.

I love how it looks really bulky but it's really light. I installed it really easily. However, I mistook the backup button for the off switch. Besides that fiasco I haven't have a problem with it yet.

I finally decided that an additional seperate hard drive was needed to store my photographs and after looking at more familiar brands and doing my research decided that the Transcend was the one for me.
This was such an easy install and foolproof that I was worried that there was something I missed. There were no glitches and so far no mishaps.

I travel quite a bit, and the Transcend is extremely reliable, especially shock-resistant. It feels like it has a rubber coating. This is the third one I've bought - from B&H, of course. I've only seen them at B&H.

I use this product just as an extra drive - haven't used the one-touch backup. It is so easy, and fast too. It does take 2 USB ports, but for what I do with it - who cares? I plug it in to save pictures and files when my hard drive gets too crowded, or when I want to move these files to another computer, and it works great. I also like the grippiness of the covering on the drive - less likely to slip or fall. I'm happy.

I mainly store photos on this hard drive. It transfers fairly fast. The only thing I don't like about the product is the software that comes with it. Therefore, I just ignore it and transfer photos from Adobe Bridge. It is extremely quiet and very durable.

I use this product for Mobile DJing at high end weddings in Seattle. I CAN'T have something that fails me.
- I was worried about the sleep / shut down time - no issues.
- I was worried about the extra USB power - no issues and not needed.
- It has a nice grip cover and sit perfectly without slipping or falling off my booth.
- No set up required. Plugged into a PC, loaded files. Plugged into a Mac, loaded more files. Plugged back into PC and it works flawlessly for all of my programs.
Summary - I have my Transcend StoreJet sitting next to me and it is an enjoyable thing! I looked and waited a LONG time since my last HD and would definitely buy this again.
