The Sony MEAD-MS01 Memory Stick Adapter allows you to use Memory Stick Media with Sony XDCAM EX camcorders and other ExpressCard compatible hardware. The MEAD-MS01 adapter is the same shape as SxS memory cards, so it will fit in the media slot of all XDCAM EX camcorders. Since there aren't any protrusions the media cover can be closed during shooting.
The Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo HX series cards are recommended for use in the adapter. These cards are available from retail outlets, unlike SxS media. So in situations in the field where additional media is required, or for cost-conscious users, the MEAD-MS01 Memory Stick Adapter is the perfect solution.
- ExpressCard Form Factor
- The MEAD-MS01 Adapter has the shape of an ExpressCard, so it can be inserted into the ExpressCard slot of all XDCAM EX camcorders or any other ExpressCard compatible hardware.
- PC Compatible
- Memory Stick media recorded with MEAD-MS01 by XDCAM EX hardware works on a PC without any need for drivers. Folders and files of XDCAM EX are shown in the NLE operation window or in Clip Browser in the same way as with SxS media. However, users should not insert a Memory Stick with XDCAM EX recorded content directly into the Memory Stick slot of a PC, because XDCAM EX uses a different recording format and this may lead to a read error that causes the data to be damaged. Memory Sticks must be in the MEAD-MS01 adapter and the adpater is used to transfer the files onto the PC.
- PXU-MS240 Compatible
- The PXU-MS240 240GB HDD back-up unit for SxS media is fully compatible with the MEAD-MS01 adapter - simply insert the memory card into the adapter and then put the adapter into the PXU-MS240 unit to record content onto the MS240's hard drive.

I wanted to use this as an added card for my EX1R. The price was right but the card failed even after formating twice. Every time you stop recording and check the footage then go to record again I got "media needs to be restored". After loosing an entire shoot using the "raw" card I vowed to stay away from these adapters. This time testing before hand proved to be the safe way to go. I will be purchasing a real SxS card and keeping my customers.

I use the MEAD-MS01 adapter with the recommended Sony Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo HX card. No problems with recording so far. The MS card is held securely in the adapter by a "push to latch" & "push to release" mechanism.
However, the adapter is not recognized by Sony's SBAC-US10 USB reader. This is not documented in any specs from Sony. (There is a tiny disclaimer buried in the MEAD product literature... after you purchase the product). Both products are promoted by Sony as being completely XDCAM EX compatible... huh? If the media will work in the camera, why not the reader? Intentional incompatibility by Sony!

The only thing to watch out for is that the memory stick pops out easily and I found myself with an empty adapter at a shoot. The memory stick was on the floor at home.
