Product Highlights
  • 8-Stop Neutral Density Filter
  • Increase Exposure Length
  • Schott Superwite Glass

The Formatt-Hitech 77mm HD ND 2.4 Filter is a solid neutral density filter providing a 8 stop reduction in exposure. This 2.4 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or longer shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.

This filter is constructed from Schott Superwhite glass to maintain high optical clarity and is set within a 4mm-thick metal filter ring.

2.4 ND filter darkens the image, allowing you to photograph with a longer shutter speed or wider aperture than normally required.
Providing a 8 stop exposure reduction, this filter allows you to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.
Filter does not affect coloration of the image and is ideal for use with other filters.

Comments about Formatt Hitech 77mm HD ND 2.4 Filter:

this is a great filter. It replaces a b&w 9 stop filter that i cracked and to my eyes I don't see any difference in colour. I bought this from Canada and have to say that B&H shipping to Canada is amazing fast and very reasonable price.

Comments about Formatt Hitech 77mm HD ND 2.4 Filter:

I bought this filter because of the price, which is great, knowing that it might likely have a slight color cast of a few hundred Kelvin. The good news is It didn't have a slight color cast. The bad news is it's the worst color cast I've ever witnessed in a filter that claims to be " neutral".

The color cast is EXTREME magenta - so bad that even when I shoot a color chart and run the image through software to correct every color, it is UNABLE to completely correct for it.

I'd say, unless your looking for a fun effect filter only to be used in black and white photography, do yourself a favor and pass on this gem. ...even then, you'd probably be better off with an infrared filter. ...and it would probably have less of a color cast.

I use this for cutting light for long exposures. Primarily I use it for photographing lightning where a long exposure is required even in light conditions. This one has a filter factor of 8 stops, it works great. A neutral density is a staple in my gear bag.

Comments about Formatt Hitech 77mm HD ND 2.4 Filter:

I own this filter, and while it does cut out light like a welder's mask, it also throws colour balance way off by adding a lot of magenta to the highlights. If used in combination with a grad filter it is almost impossible to white balance. I'd really only use this for black and white photography.

After 5 shots I dropped the filter from about 5' onto asphalt. The ring was a bit scratched but the glass was fine and screw worked as well. Thankfully its a well made filter. I also got some pretty interesting shots with it.
