Highly intelligent design that is intuitive and works right out of the box. Build quality and performance are extremely good. On the downside, I loaded the latest drivers and they didn't work with XP sp3. It took awhile to figure it out, but stepping back to the ver 2.0 drivers did the trick. Tascam's website was no help in this regard. Cubase, the recording software, is a pain to register and, IMO, is a lot more complicated to use than it needs to be. There's a pretty steep learning curve. Also, Cubase takes a frequent notion to stop working with Tascam's ASIO drivers. I finally discovered that using the generic ASIO drivers in Cubase seems to work ok. Fortunately, there are no such problems with the recording software that I usually use - DC8 for audio restoration. I was able to make pristine 24/96 recordings immediately with no fuss. I'm so impressed that I'm giving this unit to my brother so he can transfer his reel to reel tapes to digital. He's a recording novice and needs something that's user friendly and will do a good job. I've ordered the Tascam US-800 for myself.

i really wanted to like this product! i wanted to record multitrack audio on my intel core 2 quad system with 4gb of ram and a 7200 rpm sata hard drive. one would think these specs would be enough to do so? but nope! after playing with drivers and settings for 3 hours i finally got it to record but 3 tracks is the limit and more and the dropouts start again! i tried the newest tascam drivers and i also tried asio4all drivers with no luck. this product seems to made well i like the aluminum case and the only thing that seemed cheaply made to me was the 2 switches on top that toggle phantom power and line/guitar inputs. everything else seems solid. set up was a breeze just downloaded the newest drivers from tascam for os plugged in the device when the setup asked me to and wa la it was operational but all though it works it does not work well! i should also mention that i wanted this to record 24 bit 96khz audio and it is not at all capable of that gets audio dropouts every couple seconds. the only way i could get to record decent at all was at 16bit 44100 khz so if your looking to do the same look else where. bottom line is it is a nice looking device which was engineered with was serious thought i really do like the design if it would only handle like 12 or 16 tracks of playback i would love it? for someone who just wants a single input into their computer and only want to record one stereo track you will probably like this device, but for the home studio recordist it falls far short of usable!

Comments about Tascam US-122MKII - USB 2.0 Computer Audio Interface:

My studio is set up to record voice-overs and mix sterio audio. As such, my needs are simple- I need a sound card that easily interfaces with my multitrack editing program, which is easy to install and straight forward to use. In addition, it's nice to have one small enough to be mobile. I've taken my US-122 to plenty of on-sight sessions, using it with a lap top. It works great. I've also packed it and taken it on vacation, again, flawless performance. The price is good. B & H does a great job shipping the product in a timely way, too.

Comments about Tascam US-122MKII - USB 2.0 Computer Audio Interface:

Originally, just bought it to enable me use a high quality microphone to record rehearsals directly into my computer. The audio quality is very high and it is very easy to monitor the levels to make sure the mix will work and not feed back. Additionally, I also do a lot of entering parts in software like Finale and GarageBand with MIDI, and this device is very easy to set up and works great. I can easily go from recording with microphone to MIDI without needed to unplug or change physical set-up. Just need to change settings on the computer. Very easy and efficient. Only part I have struggled with is using Monitor out for headphone. I just have used the computer to Monitor, but would prefer to hear balance before it goes to computer. Probably need more time with the manual to figure out.

Comments about Tascam US-122MKII - USB 2.0 Computer Audio Interface:

The Tascam us122 MK II is a low cost but great performing USB audio interface. USB means portable with the install consisting of loading the drivers on your computer and plugging in a USB cable from the computer to the US122 MK II. The driver install can be a liitle tricky sometimes (I have installed lots of these for my friends) but once done the unit is very easy to use. Interfaces with DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) software suites easily (I use SONAR and it interfaces very quick and easy).
Two channels so you capture live recording in stereo or sing on one channel and play an instrument on the other. Capable of zero latency monitoring, Phantom power so you can use condenser microphones (Professional feature).
Works well with laptops (that is why I have two of these - yeah I like them that much). Window XP through Window 7 compatible (including 64 bit - unit 1 runs sonar 64 bit on my desktop - 64 bit Win 7) so I am sure that it can do this.
Is it world class pro ... no but it is highly effective with great sound quality at a killer price. Low profile knobs help it fit easily into my laptop bag. Aluminium case is sturdy. All in all a great buy. Like I said I have two of these.
I am not allowed to name other retailers so all I can say is that B & H had the best price on this unit anywhere on the web and beat several other web retailers (and believe me I know almost all of them).

Comments about Tascam US-122MKII - USB 2.0 Computer Audio Interface:

I'm using this interface with my iMac running Logic Express on Leopard OS. It has very simple instructions to load the drivers, then plug it in and it works perfectly! Operates exactly as advertised. I can easily record one or two tracks at a time. I have powered monitors plugged into the line outs, and also use the headphones for recording acoustic stuff. Build quality is good. This is the only interface I've owned. I'm told that a much more expensive unit (like an Apogee) would have a better sound quality, but honestly I don't know how it could be much better, as this thing sounds really great and is very easy to use. I'm thoroughly satisfied with my $ purchase!

Comments about Tascam US-122MKII - USB 2.0 Computer Audio Interface:

This is worth every penny. The knobs are the only thing that feel a little flimsy, but they are low-profile, so they probably won't break in my backpack.

Audio-wise, it adds a bit of hiss at high-gain, but I haven't benchmarked it against my UA-5. It sounds like it's entirely pre-amp limited in terms of noise, and there are no weird buzzes or hums even though it is USB powered.

Downside: It only works with windows and Mac

              Upside: Worth it.

I use this to record vocals into my laptop and at first it was working great but then static started coming out of my speakers and my computer froze.. I at first blamed my old computer but then i noticed each time i unplugged the interface things worked normal.
During the time i had it it only worked about 50% of the time. But when it was working it worked great.

I asked around and people said it had something to do with windows drivers so im planning on returning it for a new interface.

Comments about Tascam US-122MKII - USB 2.0 Computer Audio Interface:

This was bought to record piano audio from a Casio keyboard as well as for digitizing reel to reel & cassette tapes. Audacity is used as the sound editing software on an Windows XP machine. Once drivers are installed, Tascam unit shows up as an audio source for both input and output in Audacity Resulting sound quality is very good for both stereo recording and playback through this USB device. So far I have only tried line level input and headphone output, but it has capabilities for XLR mike inputs and direct electric guitar connection as well as MIDI in and out. One limitation (clearly shown in manual) is that there is no turntable preamp so it can't connect directly to a turntable for recording.

Unit is quite sturdy with full size input and ouptput jacks. It will sit where you put it, even with cables coming out of both ends. Panel controls do the job, but feel like light-duty components. Various LEDs provide useful indications such as audio present and clipping. The unit gets its power exclusively from the USB port.

The only problems so far are occasional failure to play back through USB. This may very well be due to a Windows or Audacity problem, but the most reliable fix is to unplug Tascam unit, and plug it back in and restart Audacity.

I bought this as a gift for a relative and have owned one for about 2 years. I owned the MK1 and could not find a better unit! I thought about buying an interface with 8 inputs but I really did not need that many inputs. This unit was a good investment! I bought the MK1 when it first came out and used it for years trouble free. It's easy to use and sound great! Buy and SM57 and your done.

I have owned and used pro audio gear for decades. This box performs as well as some of the most expensive I have ever owned. Use reasonably good mics and you will get great results. The pres are clean and quiet. I love that they used flat discs instead of knobs that stick out and break in transit - that is intelligent design. Works great here in Win7, XP and MacOS. No problems, drivers are solid. Low latency. I own 2 of these and am buying a few more, this is the perfect storm of form, function and price, every manufacturer could learn something from studying this piece of gear.

Comments about Tascam US-122MKII - USB 2.0 Computer Audio Interface:

I had owned the previous model US122 and like this one better. The monitor mix knob on this is quieter and pans between source and computer output This is useful for balancing between input and the playback of tracks.
The limitations are the -10 output and no separate headphone volume. Can't decide if I like the headphone jack in front but you can't beat the price for a USB 2 audio/MIDI interface.

I use the product for my album recording sessions and it helps. It makes my condensor microphone sound the way it is supposed to and it is very clear. I use it with Logic on my Macbook Pro and have no problems. At first you must go to the audio settings and change things of course and once you do that, it's just plug and play from there. It is bigger than I expected but still small enough to fit in my bag to take on the go and record. It's not complicated at all and it's a great buy. I seriously mean it. I'm Rawbigad and record rap music. Take it from me. Tascam is the way to go. You will certainly get a quality product when you buy the US-122MK 2. It's great for beginners and advanced producers alike. What are you waiting for. Stop reading my review and buy it. It works fine and is small enough to fit in your duffle bag with the rest of your studio equipment.

Using in Windows 7 64 bit. If I have too many programs running it will make a horrible static noise until I reset it. After doing some research, it seems to be a driver issue that they will probably fix. Should have gone with the m audio mobilepre, but this has the same specs for [$] less + driver problems.

Yes it is cheap and yes it does what it is supposed to but after 30 mins of using it, i started to get some randoms static noises. The only way to stop them was to unplug/replug and then it kept coming back at random intervals. After doing some research, i found that it is a commons problem that windows 7 users have with it.
