Comments about Tascam BB-800 Portable Digital Audio Recorder:
As a stand-alone unit I can record uniform audio for my video productions.
Together with a shotgun mic and boom pole I am able to record the same quality digital audio without any suprises.
I use a high-end digital video camera and needed to improve my production quality.I wanted to be able to have more control of the sound recording while maintaining digital integrity in my projects.
The BB-800 is not too heavy to carry on your shoulder in a field recorder bag.
There's not a lot of moving parts, so the simplicity of this unit is actually the best thing about it.. And of course being portable and battery powered is the complete portabilty that I needed.
The batteries lasted over 2 or three hours on continued basic recording and I can honestly say that they may last longer.
So far after working on my current project, I feel like this recorder will be my device of choice for the aforementioned kind of projects.
If you are a digital video producer like me with a third world budget, you will feel like there was a pricing mistake when you start using it.
Other similar field recorders on the market are costing 5x what the BB-800 costs but ultimately render the same results.

Comments about Tascam BB-800 Portable Digital Audio Recorder:
The phantom power went out after a month of using it. The mic input cracked as well and listening to the sound with head phones is very soft to hear. Plus the plastic the casing is made out is very cheap. If you are going to use it on the field I suggest you find case for it.

Comments about Tascam BB-800 Portable Digital Audio Recorder:
Shooting a documentary on very limited funds and needed decent-good quality sound for the interviews. The sound quality and ease of use on this one make it perfect for that end. It's a big fella though and would be a pretty unwieldy thing for anything but a controlled indoor sit-down.

Comments about Tascam BB-800 Portable Digital Audio Recorder:
The BB-800 is a recent purchase. I've been using it to do production sound on a short film. The best thing about it is that it's super simple to use. I hate the Zooms because the menu within a menu within a menu is a nightmare. The BB-800, though, has nice labeled buttons for everything. I think the quality of the recording surpasses the Zoom as well. The only drawback is its enormous size. I'm still going to have to find another recorder for exterior shoots and shoots where I'm on the move.
