  • Compact & Simple To Use
  • Easy-Open Latch

  • Rated up to 200'

This Ikelite compact mechanical underwater housing is designed for the JVC Picsio GC-FM1 compact video camcorder. The housing is incredibly compact and simple to use. All camera controls are fully functional through the housing and depth rated to 200' (60m). The easy-open latch and drop-in camera loading makes setting up the housing a breeze.

The ocean is one big, blue filter. As you descend, the reds and oranges quickly become muted shades of blue and gray. The included UR/Pro color correcting filter for tropical blue water replaces some of the reds and your video will have a more natural tone. The filter is effective in 80' of water or less, depending on conditions. The optional #6441.71 color filter is available for use in green water.

Another way to correct for underwater color loss is by shining a color corrected light source on your subject. The Ikelite Pro-V8 LED Video Lite is perfect to bring back the ocean's true colors. The Pro-V8 features a warm, even 45° beam angle with a 10-hour burn time. The flex arm allows the light to be repositioned effortlessly. The optional Video Compact Tray #9523.51 is required.

The closer you are to your subject the better your underwater video will be. The use of a wide-angle lens allows this to happen. By eliminating as much water as possible between you and your subject, you will increase contrast and improving color. You can attach the optional 67mm threaded #6420 Ikelite W-20 lens to the housing using the optional port adapter #9306.78. The wide-angle conversion lens can be attached and removed when underwater for maximum versatility.

Comments about Ikelite 5650.01 Underwater Video Housing for JVC Picsio GC-FM1 Camcorder:

The housing is very robust and once you have memorised the button layout on the Camera it was easy to use. The housing/camera comination is very light and bouyant underwater which gives problems with camera stability when filming. Just pressing the record button results in camera shake. A complete package with a video light and tray many improve the stability underwater when filming.
The big downside however is the camera's lack of wide angle which is further reduced underwater. This is not good when you have a 6 meter whaleshark in front of you! A Dyron, Inon or Epoque wide angle lens is the solution to this, although this adds dramatically to the overall cost.
The red filter does help with colour correction down to 20 meters but you must remember to remove it and replace it to ensure that air bubbles are not trapped behind it.
For a cheap package however it is good value. If all you want to do is show the family what you saw on your dives it's a great little package that will not inhibit your dive enjoyment. The ability to record HD video and 8 meg stills in a little compact unit that adds little to ones baggage allowance is very useful in these times of reduced allowances on budget airline.

Comments about Ikelite 5650.01 Underwater Video Housing for JVC Picsio GC-FM1 Camcorder:

My husband already had this camera set and used it last year while we were diving in Curacoa. I was so impressed with it that I decided I had to get one too. I had the JVC Picsio HD video camera but needed the housing for it and found it at B&H. The price was great [...]. I used the camera while diving in Florida this past week. It is very simple and easy to use. What a great way to get HD video at such a low price.

Worked great right out of the box. JVC camera fit perfectly. Buttons were easy to use wearing 5 mm gloves. On/off button had to be pressed hard to activate camera on/off button.

Took down to 100 ft on first use. Have not tried with red filter yet.

Video and sound quality were great for a low cost package.

Did several 60 foot dives with this and the camcorder stayed nice and dry. Can't ask for much more although I hate spending 25 for a handle 25 for the bracket to put the handle on and double it all for a second handle and bracket.

Amazingly simple design, but well made underwater housing. You can't go wrong with Ikelite! Easy to use compact design doesn't get in the way when diving. I can operate the controls with one hand while keeping my other hand free for more important uses such as maintaining bouyancy control while filming. I also purchased the bracket for the strobe and removed the adjustable ball-arm from my ReefMaster still camera setup for use on this device. I mounted a dive light to the end of the arm and installed a thin frosted lens inside the dive light to prevent hot spots from the light beam. Looks good, works great!

Comments about Ikelite 5650.01 Underwater Video Housing for JVC Picsio GC-FM1 Camcorder:

Excellent little housing. I use a bigger housing for my Sony A1U HD camera, but this is great as back-up and as a handy grab-and-go camera/casing package. Of course the video quality is totally a factor of the camera itself, but the housing is easy to carry and gives clear visibility of the display screen in the rear. The only downside is that all the control buttons are clustered close together on the rear, making it a bit confusing. Takes a little bit to memorize what button does what. The two main buttons, power-on and record, are elevated a bit above the other buttons, so that makes it a little easier, since I seldom use any of the other features. Really like the set-up.
