Comments about BP-DC8 Lithium-Ion Battery for Leica X1 Digital Camera:

Bought as a spare for a Leica X Vario. It certainly comes in handy, even though I don't use an EVF (neither Leica's nor its Olympus counterpart), which apparently requires more power and reduces the specified 350 shots (by some 100, according to a number of reviewers). Still, it's good to have in those unforeseen instances when a deired photograph is missed because there's no power to deliver it—even my father's 1970s-era Nikon film camera requires a lithium battery, and it has failed on occasion. As this battery is the same as that of the Leica X1 and X2, one can only assume that its life between charges will be shorter because of the power to operate the X Vario, especially if the AF is on more often than not or the EVF is preferred. I highly recommend the purchase of a second battery for those "just-in-case" instances.Hats off to B&H for providing these at a fair price.

Comments about BP-DC8 Lithium-Ion Battery for Leica X1 Digital Camera:

Despite the lack of mention in it's description, this battery is also for the Leica X2.

Unlike 3rd party batteries, i've never had an official Leica battery swell up and jam in the camera, or fail in any way. They also seem to hold their charge very well for months on end. My only complaint is perhaps with the price, they are a fair bit more pricey than similar original batteries for other camera brands - but that's not unexpected, it is a Leica after all.

Comments about BP-DC8 Lithium-Ion Battery for Leica X1 Digital Camera:

I just bought this battery for my X1 as 2nd battery, and after days of deciding whether to buy the original or the third party which is 3 times cheaper. But at the end I just don't want to bother about risking by having battery that might having issue (or might not) while I am shooting on my trips. I have using it few times and so far the battery performance is great and I am satisfy.

Comments about BP-DC8 Lithium-Ion Battery for Leica X1 Digital Camera:

Leica X1's battery charge is enough only for about 100 pictures if you shoot in 100% Jpeg+Raw mode. Therefore having an additional battery at hand is crucial. I bought one together with my Leica X1 and this proved to be the right decision.

NB: it takes about 2 hours to have it fully charged.

I expect to be some time without electrical power so I need a supply of back-up batteries for my X1. There are cheaper batteries, but I do not dare put one in my Leica!

An essential accessory for the x1, whose battery performance -- especially when shooting DNG + JPEG -- is decidedly compromised.
