Comments about Canson Infinity Platine Fibre Rag 310 Archival Inkjet Paper (8.5 x 11", 25 Sheets):

I've told my wife that I've fallen totally in love with a paper. I've wanted to shift to a non-OBA paper with reasonable brightness and a touch of warmth to replicate plein air principles of warm light/cool shadows for landscapes on an Epson 3880 in ABW mode. While I'm also a fan of Harman Gloss Baryta, there is just something magical about how everything comes together with this cotton-based Canson Platine paper (I use Eric Chan's ABW ICC profile for this paper). With the right inkjet toning, it just absolutely pops. There's just a hint of structure to the stiple that, if anything, brings out the details even more with the smooth ISO 50 photographs I take with a Sigma DP1. I love the way reflections break up into a thousand points of light when you view the paper off-angle instead of seeing a big light blob. The stiple forces you to look at the paper at just the right angle, but if you go off-angle, it's still a pleasing experience. The depth and richness of the images are just magical. I'm sure there are (slightly) brighter papers, papers with (slightly) higher DMax, papers (slightly) more neutral across the entire spectrum (there is indeed a modest rise in the red for the warmish highlights), (slightly) smoother, (slightly) glossier, maybe (slightly) more detailed under a loupe. I don't care anymore. It just works top to bottom. And I can tone this paper warm or cool, it excels at both. I can make it act like Harman Baryta Warmtone (super cream) or Ilford Gallerie RC (super blue). It tones beautifully with Epson's ABW color wheel and is worth fully exploring with test patches to find the highest contrast points for your preferred tone. For example, try Hor 25 Ver -40 (fairly strong violet with purple/blue bias to complement the very slight yellow/cream cast of the paper) if you want to see the highlights and shadows pop into high relief while opening up the mid tones with just a touch of warmth. Just amazing. No problem with head strikes either, very easy to handle. I'm sold. The only downside is it's expensive, so use for treasured photographs and fine art projects that you want to last for a lifetime (or several).

Comments about Canson Infinity Platine Fibre Rag 310 Archival Inkjet Paper (8.5 x 11", 25 Sheets):

I use this paper mostly for printing black and white film scans and I love how the paper looks. The texture is subtle but gorgeous, and it allows for really nice blacks. It is slightly off-white, which I like. It reminds me of a nicer version of Foma's Velvet darkroom paper, which was my favorite while printing in the wet darkroom. I also have used it for a few color prints but the ones I have printed don't have a wide range of colors and tones - they are more minimal so I can't really speak to how the paper does with color.

I can mix the print on this paper and silver print done on Bergger warmtone paper on the same exhibition wall. Extremely trustable paper for b/w printing.

For anything I want to have a very long tonal scale, I turn to Platine Fiber Rag. The smooth gradation of color it produces is fantastic. It also has my favorite surface of any paper I have sampled. The thickness (though it means individually feeding the sheets is also a bonus for sending raw prints. All around a great paper.

I bought this after reading an on-line review. I use this paper in my Epson 3880. Quite frankly, I was astonished at the quality of the prints. The paper is heavy (310 gm) with a slightly warm tone. It is considered a gloss finish but it has a texture and acts much more like a luster finish. Its ability to capture fine detail is just astonishing. Overnight this has become my paper of choice in this printer.
