I purchased the GTV-DD-2-AA to be able to plug my new LED TV to my old surround sound receiver with no ptical input. The product works as advertised except for when watching streaming video over the internet (sound pops and cuts out for a few seconds). Contacted Geffen and they said it was the tv loosing audio signal for a moment. I can live with it for the short amount of time compared to the price of the component they said would fix it for an added $75.

I used this product very briefly, connecting a Panasonic Viera D2 to my old stereo - the TV is broadcast, i.e. an over the air signal. The decoder generates an audible 'pop' at every channel change.
Later, while watching a music performance (at moderate volume) the signal was momentarily lost - when it was reestablished, an incredibly loud 'pop' was generated that damaged the woofers in both speakers, which now need repair. This product should include filtering to remove audio noise of this magnitude - and consumers should know it is not appropriate for broadcast TV use. It worked OK when used with a DVD player only, and may work fine in a cable setup, although another reviewer noted the audible pop during power cycling.

My Panasonic TV gets HD channels through my antenna, but the broadcast sound is Dolby. Polk soundbar does not have a decoder, so no sound from soundbar when watching broadcast TV. This device solved the problem nicely, taking the digital sound out from TV with pushing analog out to my soundbar.

Simple product, works great, and decodes AC3 as well as PCM. Use them to get analog audio from the new TV's that only have digital audio out.

I purchased the Gefen decoder to connect my new TV to my vintage Carver pre-amp. The digital audio from the TV connects to the Gefen decoder and the RCA out connects to the pre-amp. The installation is very quick and the sound is excellent. This device provides a relatively inexpensive solution to connect new digital audio signals to vintage equipment. I originally intended to connect my Blu-Ray player to the decoder but figured out connecting the TV to the decoder I only need one connection to capture any audio signal to the TV.

Using this with a Fiber Optic Toslink cable to send audio signal from our Panasonic Viera 50" to an FM headset. It seems to work fine although there is a small lag time. This lag time is not noticeable when listening thru the headset and viewing the sound on the TV (you cannot see the lag when watching a speakers lips). However, if the sound coming from the TV speakers is loud enough for the headset wearer to hear, (s)he can hear the sound lag although it is not so bad as to be unacceptable.
I think its best use is with home theater systems or analog stereo systems. It is probably excellent if you are not trying to listen to both the TV output and the output from the DAC.

I wanted to connect my Sony Google TV with my Bose Multiwave system.
The trouble started when I discovered that the TV audio output was a digital one while the Bose audio input (AUX) was anologue.
Having researched the problem for I while I concluded that the best solution was to try with a digital-analogue decoder.
The problem is that not every decoder would work properly. As the digital output is Dolby Surround 5.1 compressed, it turned out that only GTV-DD-2-AA would do the job properly. The whole system now works great as if you have a proper home cinema plugged in.

Rated 4 stars since I have had it only a week. This is the only D-A converter that I have used that works with the Panasonic Viera TC-P55VT50. As I have heard described by some, there is some slight popping between channels, but unless you have the volume max'd out it shouldn't lead to problems with amplifier equipment or speakers. Additionally, I haven't fully checked the 5.1 performance, but at a cursory check it seems good.

I use this system with the S/PDIF connector on my tv to have all sound from all my devices go through my Bose system. Since my TV has no output other then S/PDIF for sound, I was very limited on what I could do. This is the only product I was able to find. The first one I bought about 2 years ago and quit on me after my last move. They seem very flimsy, but when they work they are working great.

I was hoping to use this to connect my Apple TV 3 to my old Lexicon processor but no luck.
Contacted Gefen Tec. support and we tried every option they could think of, including connecting to to my PS3 which worked fine but just could not get to to work when using the optical output from the Apple TV 3.

Comments about GTV-DD-2-AA GefenTV Digital Audio Decoder:
My TV only outputs digital sound via toslink. My receiver accepts a toslink input, but requires an analog input to utilize remote amp/speakers. This device takes the digital input from toslink and turns it into an analog stereo signal so I can now utilize the remote amp/speakers. I needed the decoder since the TV may sometimes output formats other than Dolby 2.0. When I first plugged it in, it did not work. I called Gefen on the phone and was connected directly to a technical person. He was helpful and communicated very well, but I was disappointed since it did not work. However, after unplugging it and plugging it in again, it now works perfectly. I have not had a problem since. Sound is just like the digital dolby 2.0, so I'm pleased. One thing that is not so great is that the decoder does get a bit warm. Not a significant issue. I recommend this item and would purchase it again.

Wanted to hook up a B & W Zepplin mini and Sennheiser headphones to new Pamasonic plasma TV that only had optical audio. The Geffen works great, easy to hook up, nothing to do after initial connections. Great sound now through either speakers or headphone ( did have to add y connectors to do both). Highly recommend for easy and cheap hook up instead of doing home theater receiver.

Product is a godsend. I have old high end analog equipment and when I bought a new LED TV it only had an optical out. The gefen bridged the gap between my legacy equipment and the new TV. Everything works. My 5.2 surround sound system works with my new TV. It seems expensive for such a small item but it is definitely cheaper than replacing my old equipment.

I needed to connect audio signal from a Panasonic Viera TV to my old audio receiver/Bose surround system. Installation took two minutes and now I can listen to both TV and FM cable broadcasts through my old analog audio components. I haven't had any problems with the Genfen Decoder, and the solution couldn't have been easier.

Purchased a TV with a optical audio out and needed to add a wireless headphone. This unit changed the optical to electrical and does a fine job. Just plug and play.
