I purchased two of these to aim my Canon 600EX's when working remotely on lightstands. They work excellent! I use them in conjunction with the Quantum Dead Shoe (the best shoe IMO for mounting the Canon flash without damaging the weather seal - and the flashes shoe lock fully works) and have complete direction control with very little weight! They are much faster than umbrella yokes, and if you work with the Lastolite box, I've fitted each head with a Manfrotto 323 RC2 quick release adapter, and attached (with a trip to the hardware store) the QR plate to the Lastolite Ezybox Hotshoe Adapter for use with the Ezybox Hotshoe Softbox. Also works great with the Lastolite Strobo! See the photos!

Very impressive strength when tight. It's only rated for about four pounds, so don't get crazy and put a lot of stuff on it, but it works really well and I'm glad I have it in my kit!

The first time you tighten it you feel the quality. Have used it effectively with a Canon EX600 on top of a Pocket Wizard. Currently supporting a 7" LCD monitor on top of a sony HXR-NX5U video camera. This is a good example of value: not inexpensive but worth the investment.

Comments about Manfrotto 492 Micro Ball Head:

I got this mount head to use with Manfrotto 190 XB tripod and man, I'm impressed with it.

This mount head is really tough and robust, and by the look and feel of it, I think it will last long. This mount head has a screw on top to attach your camera.

The one thing I really didn't like about this head is that it becomes really hard at times to adjust the screw and attach the camera. I mount needs to be rotated at the bottom and it takes a long time to get it going.

But once attached, it fits perfectly and the camera sits very tightly with no amount of shake. All in all, a great mount head and I would recommend it.

                      Good in almost every way.

it's a bit tricky to attach to the camera since the circle platform (not sure if that's what it's called) is not very grippy, and hard to turn. Similarly when tightly screwed onto the camera it's hard to loosen it.

Overhall I am happ with it.

I used this head, plus a short pin to 3/4" adapter and a mafer clamp to attach a GoPro to a bunch of different places. I also use this head on a Canon SX20 for timelapses. It's built solid and doesn't slip when it's tightened.

Comments about Manfrotto 492 Micro Ball Head:

I use it with a Manfrotto table-top tripod to hold a microphone for interview. Together they take little space in my backpack.
The combo works well, but I wish the attachment plate on top has got a tightening wheel that can be turned independently. As it is, one has to turn the whole head to tighten. I'm sure they can add this with very little cost.
