Comments about Monostat RS16 PRO ART (Anti Rotation Tubing) 3-Section Monopod:

I'd been wanting to get a monopod for a while, and when my wife gave me a gift card for Christmas, I knew what I wanted to buy with it. I bought this Monostat unit after looking at several different monopods and seeing reviews here and elsewhere. I also bought a belt system, reviewed elsewhere.

More on the Monostat monopod. I received it in time to use at the NCAA FCS College Football Championship game in January, and it performed great. It's not real light, but light enough that I had no problems using it while moving back and forth along the sidelines. The padding along the top is thick and well placed, providing a good grip and comfortable even in the slightly cooler temperatures of the game (around 45 or so, at the time, IIRC). In this case, the foot on the bottom doesn't matter as much, other than to ensure there was no damage to the field and that the monopod didn't sink too far down into the field. However, I tried it out on concrete, as well as on hardwood and tiled floors, leaning it over at quite an angle and trying quite forcefully to push it away. It slid slightly, but only under quite a bit of pressure.

I can't say much about attaching the camera, as I bought an Arca-Swiss-compatible quick-release head to mount on the top. Having said that, I don't think it would be TOO difficult to mount/dismount the camera on it. It's your standard 1/4-20 post, after all.

The leg extension is quick and easy, particularly since I'm used to twist extensions on my Gitzo tripod. They hold solidly, as long as you snug them down appropriately. It doesn't seem like you have to cinch them down REALLY hard to lock them, though.

At this point, I've not used it with anything very heavy: a Nikon D200 and a Tamron 70-300 zoom is as heavy as I've gone at this point. I plan on purchasing a 70-200 within a relatively soon timeframe, but I still don't expect that to tax this monopod.

For aluminum, the weight isn't too bad, either. It's not as light as carbon, of course, but it's not bad. And the included travel/storage bag is quite nice. It seems to be made well, and has an extendable section on one end, allowing you to remove any head on the monopod and reduce the overall storage length of the bag and monopod.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this Monostat monopod, indeed I've already done so to a few people. Nicely made product, but a tad high compared to competitors. That's the only reason I went with four stars. For quality, build, and performance, it's 5 stars all the way!

Comments about Monostat RS16 PRO ART (Anti Rotation Tubing) 3-Section Monopod:

Finally I got the monopod that really works, for years now that I was looking for a monopod that would give me the stability on the go. I tried a lot of them from several brands even the more expensive ones but non gave real stability.

But that was until I stumbled over the Monostat monopod at B&H last week, I've never heard of it before, but you can see from the built quality that its something different. This interesting shaped foot make a huge difference, I tried it even on the sandy boardwalk and this foot really stabilizes.

Bottom line it was worth every penny!
