While pricey, the Kirk L Bracket really fits the bill for a fast change from landscape to portrait if you use a ball head on your tripod. The Arca compatible plate slides in and out and you're set for shooting. Machined out of a single piece of aluminum, this is a solid piece of metal that doesn't hinder the hand-holding character of the camera body. Works like a charm!

There isnt a prob with the L Bracket as such. Except to say that where it fits onto my tripod ballhead it isnt machined finely enough to allow the ballhead clamp to secure it. The two products are not compatible. I was told this item would fit on my Cullmann QR plate, but it doesnt, not snuggly enough to close the head clamp. Very disappointing. Other than that, the L Bracket itself is fine. Kirk need to make the attachment part finer, so it can fit in the QR Plate better. A supplied rubber washer would be good too.

      Comments about Kirk L-Bracket:

I put a Kirk L-Bracket on my 20D, 40D, 5DII, 5DIII, and now on a 7D. I have a Kirk bullhead on my tripod, and w/o these brackets I'm sunk. I like the quick transition from landscape to portrait. I like the access they provide to the side connectors. They're tough too. I've never had an issue with these. When the 7D (used) recently arrived I thought I could get by for a few days with the 40D L-bracket, but no such luck. Canon alters the bodies just enough to make one camera's L-bracket useless on another body. The price, spread over years of use, is negligible..

Perfect fit for my Canon 7d and extremely well built. It's very convenient to be able to go from vertical to horizontal so quickly and easily. It seems overly expensive, but I expect it to last forever.

      Comments about Kirk L-Bracket:

This is the second Kirk "L" bracket I have owned. First was for the Canon 50d with vertical grip, now for the 7D. They are well made, snug fitting. I have never had an issue. An once you use one-you would never go without it. so much better than flipping the camera sideways on the tripod. These are supposed to have less vibrations than any other similar bracket.

        Comments about Kirk L-Bracket:

As with all Kirk products, this one is extremely well made, the fit and finish is perfect, and functionally it does exactly what it's supposed to do. That being said, I do find it a bit cumbersome when shooting handheld, but it's only a minor inconvenience.

Perfect fit and functional. Don't waste your money like I did on universal L brackets. This is the way to go. It provides access to all ports, has provision for a Black Rapid type strap, and alignment marks for centering the sensor. It's light enough to keep on the body at all times.

              Comments about Kirk L-Bracket:

light weight and easily clamps in and out of my induro panheld and acratech ballhead. Bummed that you cannot use the black rapid adapters without having to remove the black rapid D-ring before placing it on your tripod!! Bracket makes changing horizontal and vertical views a snap.
4 stars for the cost and inability to use with black rapid without removind D clamp when changing from handheld shot to tripod, delaying your photo 30-40 seconds which can make or break your opportunity.

                    Comments about Kirk L-Bracket:

This bracket lives on my 7D. I makes the camera a bit heavier. But I use a tripod with an Induro BHD1 (with an Arca Swiss type quick release) ball head most of the time. The bracket allow access to all functions of the camera and all of the eledtronic ports. It has a precisely machined cut out to allow the electric release to be attached. The battery door is unobstructed. This little beast is expensive for a machined hunk of metal but it works in all respects.

This has been a wonderful add-on to my Canon 7D. Allows me to shoot landscape and portrait of same image witjhout losing center point of object I am trying to capture. And becasue it's design is custom fit for the 7D it looks like it is part of the camera and does not affect access to any other camera feature. Easy to attach also!

Easy installation and custom fit to my 7D means it does not interfere with other camera functions. Just wish they could find a way to reduce the price.

                        Comments about Kirk L-Bracket:

In the studio and in the field I often switch between landscape and portrait mode. This L-bracket lets me do so with ease, fitting on both my tripods and my monopod (All have Arca-compatible brackets from various manufacturers. And it lets me use my cable release in both modes too. It is very solid and beautifully machined. Although grossly expensive, it is clear why when you see and use it.

                        Hex screw, really?

The bracket is fine, but it came with a hex screw camera mount and small hex wrench convenient for loosing in the field so that you get stuck with an L-bracket on your camera that you can't get off until you get home. With coin or loop tightening options readily available I fail to see why any modern mounting plate would have a hex screw, especially one selling for as much as this one does.

I bought this L bracket for use with my Canon 7D. It permits secure mounting of the camera on a ballhead with an arca-swiss clamp system. It makes it extremely easy to re-orient the camera from landscape to portrait without having to fuss with the ballhead position. It has a machined slot indicating where the center of the lens should be, but it would have been useful if the slot were white for ease of visibility. All of the ports and covers are easily accessible.

I've been wanting / needing to switch over my quick release system to the Arca Swiss style for a few reasons. Switching from horizontal to vertical is fast and very easy. Moving the camera on the tripod to adjust for parallax issues when using a tilt shift lens are again a simple twist of the knob. Easy!
