For the price, don't expect a high-end, studio-quality "reference" microphone. Since I'm more into the recording studio side of things and just dabbling in video production for my own personal projects, I didn't expect much for the low price this microphone sells for. However, even with their cheapest models, Audio Technica doesn't really make a "bad" product - whether that's microphones, headphones, or anything else. The build quality is very solid considering the price point, the mic does what its supposed to do reasonably well, and the selection of accessories that come with it is well thought out (the mounts for both 'mic stand' and 'camera shoe' are much appreciated).
Good but not amazing sound, useable but not immaculate self-noise...just what you should expect for the price point. Know what you're buying - while this mic is relatively directional, particularly compared to the built-in mics on most consumer or prosumer models, it's not a shotgun by any means, and you'll pick up a lot of ambient stereo 'room' information (albeit in a better sounding and more controllable way than the built-in stereo mics on many consumer camcorders) than you would with a true shotgun, boom, handheld, or lavalier mic system. Since that's what I was after, I wasn't disappointed, but make sure you actually want "stereo" before deciding on this mic. If you're mainly doing interviews and need to isolate the subject's voice in a noisy or ambient environment, a shotgun, lav, boom, or handheld solution is probably better for your application.
Basically, this hits the spot for anyone who wants an upgrade in quality and versatility over the built-in mic(s) in most any consumer or prosumer camcorder, but isn't ready to plunk down the cash for the next step up, such as the more expensive Rode or Sennheiser options.

The product is good for simple recording and indoor shots. It gives you a slight step up from the onboard mic found on most DSLR camera. If you are looking to have a slight advantage and not get too technical then this mic is for you, and the price is good. Another advantage to this mic is that it records directly to the camera, and there is no need to have to sync sound in post, because it is already sync'd while filming. Decent performance and comes with accessories.

Comments about Audio-Technica ATR6250 Stereo Condenser Video/Recording Microphone:
I bought this mic to use as an on-camera mic. It sounds worse than the built in mic on my Canon Vixia camera. The signal to noise ratio is horrible. To get anything decent, you have to talk within 1 foot away from this mic, and even then the frequency range doesn't sound that good. At 6 feet, the noise seems to overpower the voice. It's too bad, because this mic appears to be solid. I would suggest that you save a bit more, and buy an AT875 for a budget on-camera mic. with an XLR preamp.

I am using the video mic on a pilgrimage where I didn't want to take my best gear. It is working really well and the audio is very clear.

This Mic just improved the internal mic on my DSLR's big time. Not only it sounds better but the general noise volume ratio is great to the point that you cna used it as a main audio capture.
Grat price for this good equipment.

Comments about Audio-Technica ATR6250 Stereo Condenser Video/Recording Microphone:
This microphone has been the most useful to me in recording live musical performances. The sound I get is greatly realistic, and while not a replacement for a professional soundboard recording, it has resulted in a great deal of praise from the bands I've worked with. For film productions, it's best used in outdoor settings as the microphone does pick-up a good deal of ambient sound indoors, but it is still a pleasant step up from the built-in camcorder mic. It generally is acceptable for my vlogs, though. The only things I would mark as negatives are that, one, the mount clip broke on me after only a few months, and two, there is no power indicator light on the microphone itself.

this mic can't control the AG that my 7d produce's. so really it's not the mic to buy unless you buy a H4N extrnal sound recorder. Even then it's a cheap mic.

I purchased this product to use for DSLR video recording. For this price it worked very well. I used it to make a promotional video for a private elementary school. THe sound was clear and it picked up children from some distance away. THe quaility was a little 'boomy' but not terribly so. For this price I would recommend it to a friend.

Trying to use it as an upgrade to on camera Mic will show disapointment. There really is not much difference between on camera mic and this external. Works great if you use an extension to place Mic and then shoot from distance. solid built better consturction then what I had expected. This mic is great at isolating voice from direct source rather than from a whole group.

Comments about Audio-Technica ATR6250 Stereo Condenser Video/Recording Microphone:
This mic is built well and functions nicely with my 7D, but it does have a bit of static. It has good stereo spread and is sensitive, but that sensitivity comes at the cost of too much gain applied by the camera. It seems like 1 AA battery is just not enough power to really have a good mic. Still, I'd recommend it - it's only 1/2 the price of competition, and is far better than the in-camera mic at avoiding image stabilizer noise and camera sounds.
It is not usable with a PC due to low volume.

It is a really great Stereo Microphone. Designed to be used with a Video Camera. It works well with a digital audio recorder as well. It is very sensitive, you can record sounds that are far away with a Digital audio Recorder.

Comments about Audio-Technica ATR6250 Stereo Condenser Video/Recording Microphone:
Taking the mic out of the box I was optimistic because it is well built with a solid aluminum case and many accessories that other mics do not include. However, sensitivity and audio quality are the bottom line and this mic lacked both. I used it on one shoot and the audio level and quality rendered the footage unusable. I replaced the battery and tested the mic again with the same result. The price point is tempting, but if it does not do the job it is not a value. I returned it immediately.

I'm going to be using this microphone for upcoming documentaries. I think the big thing that is great about this product is that it comes with everything you need AND it's affordable. It's also compact in size and lightweight so easy to cart around.
I would say after testing the microphone is has a slight background noise.
In general for me, the good outweighs the bad.

For the money, this mic is a can't miss. In fact, it's almost too sensitive. I was recording a play from the balcony and I could hear kids talking below me on the main floor. It also will pick up any slight movement in your hand. I would not recommend it as a handheld mic.
I am very pleased with this purchase.
I wish it had a longer stereo mic cable. But it's easy to buy a cable with a 3.5mm male and female end to extend the cable. The long mono cables are only useful if going into a sound board.

Wow! This mic is so noisy that it makes the cruddy built in monaural mic on my Lumix G2 sound 10x better by comparison. Yes, it was under $100, but Audio-Technica should be ashamed of themselves for putting out such an inferior product. It was not worth the hassle and wait to return it, so the ATR6250 now lives in the bin that contains the other cheap and useless electronics that have disappointed me.

For the price, I was impressed with the sound this little guy captures. I would highly recommend this to anyone on a budget. I just wish the Camera Cable which is a 8" 3.5mm stereo to 3.5mm stereo, was longer. I ended up buying a 10 ft female to male extension for use with a Zoom H2 Recorder.

I purchased this mike to for interviews without using and abusing my wireless system. What everyone mentions about our videos is how clear our audio is. This microphone won't disappoint.
Most of my interviews is me behind the camera asking officials questions, especially fire chiefs with loud diesel engines around us. You can hear the interview as if I put a lavalier mike on them! You can see samples on my YouTube Account at DoingItLocal
The stereo separation is the best I've ever heard! True left and right separation. I notice on the editing time line right away.
The only drawback in my opinion is I wish the cord was 1 foot longer for interviews and it only runs on alkaline batteries. All my equipment from wireless to LED lights run off rechargeable batteries.
