A worthwhile DVD for new Canon 7D users but would be more useful with more camera specific information and less basic photography lessons. There are plenty of DVD's and books with basic lessons and I'd expect a DVD dedicated to the Canon 7D to cover just that, the camera. It should be an instructional tool and explain the cameras many features and help the photographer to use the those features to their fullest. It shouldn't be explaining such basic things as depth of field. Disappointing to get so little information about the camera itself. If the 7D is your first camera, it may be useful but how many photographers start with this camera? More useful than the manual? Maybe so but falls short of being a good instructional video.

This is the third Blue Crane DVD I have purchased and it will be the last. The commentators unblinking stare as (unless I am mistaken) he reads off a Tele Prompter, does little to encourage you to learn. There are far better DVD's out there on the 7D.

If you already know a fair bit about the Digital Controls of ANY Canon camera, this Video on the 7D will not be of much help. If on the other hand, you are a neophyte in this area, this DVD will not help you very much as the narrator rushes over the "how to" of the various controls as to leave you as uninformed as you were BEFORE watching the thing.

If you're new to the 7D be ready to watch this video a few times. You will definitely have to stop the video a few times to look for the controls on the camera. The speaker tends to talk very rapidly, and you will have to stay with it to fully understand the directions. I definitely learned quite a lot from this video. I'm sure that it is easy for semi-pros to follow, but newbies will struggle a little trying to understand all of the directions. Stick with it though, you will definitely enjoy your 7D much more!

I recently bought my first DSLR. Together with the Canon camera manual and another "how to" book, this video proved VERY instructive. The format of the video is to first show you the feature, then have you pause the video and try out the feature on your own camera. A terrific way to learn: "watch and do." The narrator is quick to define terms and operations without "talking down" to the viewer. Excellent explanations of basic terms such as shutter speed, f-stop, focal length. The video menu allows the viewer to revisit certain segments without searching the entire video.

This DVD is packed with info for all levels of expertise. Fast paced since the 7D has so much to learn. Good to go back and view over and over. Buy it. [$] to help master a $1700 camera is a no-brainer. One tip is worth the price of admission.

This video was very instrumental in helping me to learn the functions of the camera in a timely fashion. It was extremely more informative than the instruction manual. I'm going to order Vol. 2 of this series.

I have purchased this same product in the past for my Canon XTI. This is similar, showing the basic functions like what each of the modes does. If you have experience using a DSLR, I would skip to Volume 2.

There are advantages as actually watching someone explain something to you rather reading from a book. For me this had very useful information. Camera operations are pretty much the same but there are also unique things that you can learn from an instructional manual or DVD. This DVD definitely taught me some relevant things in a shorter time. It is simple to follow and allows you to easily reverse and fast forward to advance over information or listen to it again.
