There are fancier tripod makers out there and you may want a certain name on your tripod legs, but the Vanguard Tracker 4 is the best tripod I've ever owned, and it's 4 or 5 times less expensive than its peers. I've completely abused mine in mountains, trails, forests, zoos, cities, etc., and you're hardly able to see a scratch on it. All the bearings and adjustment knobs are still in perfect shape. It's been heavily used with an 8 pound medium format camera for over a year, and the thing is no worse for the wear. It's very stable, and if you don't like the pan head you can attach a fancy, professional ball head of whichever make you like. Give it a try. You won't be disappointed. It's a shame Vanguard doesn't promote itself more, because this is a fantastic product.

Great and sturdy tripod. Does NOT work for a travel tripod. It is super heavy, bulky and long. If you need a tripod for on location shoots, weddings or no-traveling shoots then it works beautifully. I needed a travel tripod, therefore, returned it back to the store and got another one.

Comments about Vanguard Tracker 4 Aluminum Tripod with PH-55 Panhead:

i love this item very much , built strong , it looks tough than picture from ad .
Install three handles A,Band C very easy , every handle did a good job , as you turn clockwise for lock in position like your wish , it is tripod for Pro , as i had tracker 4 in my hand , i am really happy exactly like i wished before received delivery because B&H described how size , how length , max fold , max extend .. etc so , i imagined by the B&H's measures then i order without hesitated because i weighted my camera body , bigest lens and flash , then i knew what max load 10kg ,tripod weighs 3.43 kg is not heavy at all ( it has a trap)so i hung it on my shoulder and walk back and forth , it is not heavy at all , special handles of A,B and C made big , so it is very convenient in your palm as you tie position.
My advise that if you want have big , strong and professional tripod , you do not need to look harder , this is it , this is right one for you , Vanguard
tracker 4 is right one for you . The Panhead PH 55 on this tripod , very easy to operate , easy to pan around , handle B to control down to 90 degree and up back to 120 degree , handle C operate 360 degree.
One thing i do not like as i have a Tokina 80-400mm hooked with My D800E body on Nikon MB-D12 battery grip , i can not put whole lens ,camera body and D12 on tripod , i have to take MB- D12 off , the handle B is stuck with MB-D12 , it is not fault by Vanguard , i thought the fault cause by Tokina AT-X 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 designer made the tripod colar ring too small and the rest of my lenses having tripod colar ring were perfect

Nothing to complain on this item at all , to me , Vanguard tracker 4 is my choice because i owned too many cameras , lenses but i still confused what tripod is right one for me , i was looking for in a longtime , i do not want being dissapointed on tripod because too many kinds of tripod , even the one i liked is too expensive , in my mind is the one i choose it will be strong leg , max load good , good height and not expensive , now , Vanguard tracker 4 is my dream . i will buy anothe Vanguard tripod with a ball head , i will let you know how i like between panhead and ballhead.
After i received , i ordered at B&H for carry case , i was very lucky to choose the right one as measureed fold tripod including Head PH-55 is 31.5"
, so i ordered an Hakuba PSTC-200 carry case , it has
dimensions 9 x71/2x 33 inches , this case is perfect to my Vanguard Tracker 4.

Comments about Vanguard Tracker 4 Aluminum Tripod with PH-55 Panhead:

This tripod is amazing! I do a lot of night photography near beaches and bays. So the wind whips around a lot. This tripod doesn't move even in those elements. My shots are tack sharp in those conditions. It is built to last. 2 weeks after I got it I dropped it on the pan head. Nothing happened except some chipped paint. I have gone though 3 or 4 tripods in the past 7 years. This one is my favorite by far. I am very happy with his product. The only down side is it is heavy. But I personally like that.

Comments about Vanguard Tracker 4 Aluminum Tripod with PH-55 Panhead:

I LOVE this tripod. It is as steady as a rock. Although it is a little heavier than some portable units, it is still VERY mobile.

I use it in studio, as well as out in the field. It is SOLID!

If you are serious about stability, but need something you can take with you and don't want to invest a fortune, this is the one for you!

I only wish I had bought one several years ago.

Since I am tall, 6' 3" I wanted a tall and sturdy tripod to support my Sigma 120-400mm zoom telephoto. It does everything that I wanted and is rock steady. The weight is reasonable considering what it does.

Comments about Vanguard Tracker 4 Aluminum Tripod with PH-55 Panhead:

I use this mainly for studio and location shooting. With just One extension pulled out my 5D canon is a little taller than table top height. The legs are large and stable and when extended fully, I grab my step ladder. I really like the height on this and the smooth panning ability that this tripod offers.

The tripod is not a carry-all-day, despite the nice, thick padded handy carry strap. What this is missing is more cast metal in the head and leg-snaps, like in the higher end Manfrotto tripods. The quick disconnect is metal that fits into a molded plastic polymer holder. The plastic is thick, so I don't think there is a possibility of cracking or breaking. I expect this is to keep the overall weight to a minimum.

This was purchased as a replacement for a big box store cheapie tripod. WOW, what an improvement! This baby is ROCK SOLID! It is a bit on the heavy side and I will be purchasing a bag for it very shortly. It does come with a shoulder strap to make carrying it easier. The panhead handles are all threaded for easy removal/installation. They are a little long and get in the way a little bit, but not a major issue. So far, thrilled with it!

I researched this tripod, and found so many good things people said about it I bought it. Glad I read your reviews.

This Tripod is compact, has a great range of adaptability ,(each locking leg can be a different height quickly),a smooth panning head, and a safety locked quick release mount.

It's easy to pack around and no more excuses not to carry your tripod with you any more. Comes with Backpack snaps and well padded shoulder strap.

This thing is awesome right out of the box.
2 things I would change to get 5 stars.
                  1. Bubble level, no reason why it shouldn't have came with one.
                  2. The choice of what size you want the extra quick shoe to be. It's nice that it comes with 2 but the larger size is useless for me.

Comments about Vanguard Tracker 4 Aluminum Tripod with PH-55 Panhead:

Everything seems to work well but I wish a few things. I wish the main tracking handle was a little longer for easy control when using for video tracking and I wish the Tripod was a little lighter. A bag would also have been nice to include with purchase. The screw on plate should also have a flipout clip to adjust rather than requiring a coin, etc.

Comments about Vanguard Tracker 4 Aluminum Tripod with PH-55 Panhead:

Love this tripod. I had looked at a lot of others and the rated load capacity really made me feel comfortable putting such large investments on it without much of a worry;)Even rated at 22lbs you still have to make sure everything's secure, don't be foolish. It holds my Nikon d90 and sigma 150-500 combo perfectly. The many features for some reason seem to be neglected on this thing. I has "multi, multi" position locking legs at almost any angle, ideal for macro work. The quick release leg height adjustments are a nice feature as well. I do like the panning head. I like the larger handles to get things just right. This isn't a $300.00 + head but a real combo winner. It uses a lever and screw down configuration to keep your equipment secure. At first I didn't care for the 2 step process but I now feel it give you/me just a little extra insurance things aren't going anywhere. I also like the versatility the center pole has. You can pull it straight out and reverse it for "low" close to the ground or really odd angles. I haven't used that much since it puts your camera upside down as well so I would like to get an add on from somewhere that looks like a big 90 deg L-bracket, keeping the camera in the normal shooting position while still very close to the ground ect. I just haven't pursued it yet. The rubber feet are excellent and easy to brush sand or dirt off. The carrying strap and the padded leg area have really come in handy while tramping through the woods. This tri-pod is a real must for macro or large equipment set ups, I do both all the time with out any concerns. For under $300 or more I couldn't find a better combination at all, this is a terrific setup. I've just started to see more of their ads in the photo mags as well, I guess that takes a lot of money but this is a "real winner".[@]

Comments about Vanguard Tracker 4 Aluminum Tripod with PH-55 Panhead:

I am an amateur photographer and videographer. I was looking to replace an old and very cheap tripod with something more sturdy and with better support. I have a chunky semi-pro dslr and a camcorder.

                  Pros:
                  - Well constructed and solid
                  - Two quick release plates, both metal
                  - Smooth panning for video
                  - Nice shoulder strap (helps with the weight)
                  - Foam grips
                  - Adjustment wrench attached

                  Cons:
                  - Heavy
                  - No bubble levels
                  - No spiked feet for outside use

                  Conclusion:
Great price and well built tripod. When you plant it on the floor it is solid.
It maybe a bit more tripod than perhaps I needed but, I believe it will last and I am looking forward to using for many years to come

Comments about Vanguard Tracker 4 Aluminum Tripod with PH-55 Panhead:

Nice, hefty tripod. I got this because my aged trusty Tiltall doesn't have a quick-release shoe. And I'm getting lazy and wanted flip-locks. I needed a QR because I'm doing panoramas at a large construction site, and have to mount and unmount the camera multiple times to stick the tripod in the back of a truck and move to the next location. A minor nuisance, the QR on this, unfortunately, takes a coin to mount securely to the camera; a little flip-lever would have been nice. Fits pretty tight on the head, though, which is important.

The included shoulder strap is a very nice addition to an 8-lb tripod. I slung it over my shoulder last weekend to shoot some video with a 5D. The head on this tripod pans very smoothly, almost fluid-like. With the QR shoe already mounted, extending and setting up the tripod was pretty quick. Somebody in another review mentioned a funny smell from the handles on the tripod, and it sits in back of me in the office, and yep – there's a funny smell; kind of rubber-like, like a tire. Handles feel great, though. The vertical lock tends to "creep" a little, which is annoying.

For the price, this is a heavy-duty tripod that is steady as a rock. A couple of annoyances, but I guess you get what you pay for. I might like to try one of their ball heads and see how it acts.

I'd recommend this with those caveats.

Comments about Vanguard Tracker 4 Aluminum Tripod with PH-55 Panhead:

Bought this recently at the B&H superstore and I must admit I'm very satisfied. Legs are solid and allows for a wide range of positions. Also a ver tall tripod and reaches my height easily. The included fluid head is amazingly smooth on pans and tilts and works great with my Canon 7d for shooting videos even though its meant for still applications.

My one gripe is that the center column is hexagonal shaped and thus making it difficult to swap out the center for a different one(hexagonal center columns are still pretty rare in tripods).
