Cullmann's Magnesit 525M Aluminum Tripod has the unique ability to allow users to convert its center column into an adjustable monopod with a maximum height of 61" (154.94cm). The 525M is made from Aluminum and is called Magnesit because of its extensive use of Magnesium in the casings and fittings. Magnesium is a light metal, helping to keep its leg weight to 4 lb (1.81 kg) and overall weight of 5.3 lb (2.4 kg).

The Magnesit 525M reaches a maximum height of just over 66.5" (169.0cm) and with its independent leg spread and 2-part center column it can operate at a very low working height of 7.1" (18cm). It comes with a 3-way panhead and the 525M's crown has a special design which mates with Cullmann's Magnesit Nm series ball heads in a locking, 100% secure fashion.

The 525M's versatility makes it great for use with SLR cameras with typical lenses and camcorders serious enthusiasts would use.

I was iffy at buying a brand I didn't know, as we all are. When I received the box in the mail it was heavy and when I got it out and started running it through its paces, i found that it was surprisingly sturdy and well made. I've looked at at some of the other higher priced ones like Manfrotto and Gitzo and for the price i pick a good tripod. I am very happy with this one.

I am a semi-retired professional videographer who has been frustrated with the tripods available as too light and not adaptable for video use (I do both stills and video).

This pod has many good features, but unfortunately has an unrestrained lateral tilt that allows a still camera to be rotated to portrait from landscape mode, and cannot be locked in place - thus, totally unreliable for video use as it may tilt in the middle of a rapid pan! Such a shame, as otherwise it's a wonderful set of sticks.

This tripod is light enough to carry on a pack. The monopod was easy to carry alone. Took it snowshoing, snowmobiling and hiking through snow.

Main use is landscape photography. This tripod is well built and dispels any worries one may have about clamping their favorite camera into it's head. It is solid a fine example of German technology and craftsmanship. The included monopod adds a new dimension to it's versatility I highly recommend it.

Comments about Cullmann Magnesit 525M Aluminum Tripod:

I bought this for the monopod ability and it seemed to be a good fit. But I am very leary about the quick release shoe. It seems like it would be easy to come out. Other than that I like the product.

Comments about Cullmann Magnesit 525M Aluminum Tripod:

I felt the legs were very sturdy, compared to a travel tripod I had previously, very easy to unfold, and the legs are firm when locked in place.

The monopod, though convenient, is bit hard to use IMO because of the twist locks. This may just be due to me not being comfortable with it yet.

The biggest problem i've had with the head, with a long heavy lens (70-300 L). It seems almost impossible to adjust it without it dropping a bit after you have locked it in place.

It also is a bit heavy, probably not something you could wear on the back of your camera bag for awhile without feeling it.

Comments about Cullmann Magnesit 525M Aluminum Tripod:

It is a great tri-pod. I was looking for affordable and versatile. I am an intermediate photographer and my older pod was just too clumbsy. Smooth and adjustible.

Comments about Cullmann Magnesit 525M Aluminum Tripod:

Cullmann tripod are great! I bought this mainly for the monopod that is included. It's sturdy although a bit heavy but I like that. I do not like the 3 way head that comes with this. It seems cheap and lackluster when paired with the legs. Overall it's worth it just for the monopod and legs.

I use this on pro shoots mostly outdoors. The monopod is a great feature, an added bonus to a nicely built tripod. Extremely light and easy to carry, it holds my Nikon D90 (with extra battery pack) and 70-200 f2.8 with no problem. With its ability to adjust each leg at a different angle, it works great in the real world and on just about any terrain, and with its retractable spikes, ice is not a problem.

I purchased this tripod because of the monopod removable center and because it was able to hold the weight of my camera with my Sigma 150-500mm lens. I was not worried about it falling over with the weight of my camera and lens on it. The tripod itself it kind of heavy.

This is a Fantastic Tripod extremely well built. I use it for everything Macro and Field work mostly. The legs are completely adjustable from setting them Completely Flat on the floor to as high as 5'6". The legs retract easily and lock solid. The leg locks can be adjusted to keep them tight and the Leg angles can be set in 4 positions. The center column comes out to use as a Monopod with 3 extensions that turn to lock and unlock. NICE! The 3way Head is SMOOOOTH with 2 arms and locks in all 3 positions. It has a Quick Release mount with the latch at the back of the head which makes it easy to operate when the camera is on the head. Quick release mount is small and you may want a larger one for large lens or video camera work. Bubble level on the tripod and great foam grips on upper legs. Comes with 5" extra center column for Macro work and Low level photography.

Comments about Cullmann Magnesit 525M Aluminum Tripod:

I am a semi-retired professional videographer who has been frustrated with the tripods available as too light and not adaptable for video use (I do both stills and video).

This pod has many good features, but unfortunately has an unrestrained lateral tilt that allows a still camera to be rotated to portrait from landscape mode, and cannot be locked in place - thus, totally unreliable for video use as it may tilt in the middle of a rapid pan! Such a shame, as otherwise it's a wonderful set of sticks.
