Product Highlights
  • For Nikon D2

The Bower RCWN1R Wireless Shutter Release Set is an extended range wireless system designed for professional and advanced amateur users of the Nikon D2. The set consist of the receiver and the shutter release transmitter.

The remote system is very handy for taking pictures of subjects that are difficult to approach, or to minimize vibration for close-ups and time exposure. The remote fires the camera from a maximum distance of 90' (27.43m). Sixteen transmission channels are available to prevent interference between other cameras using wireless remotes.

Note! The receiver takes 2 "AAA" batteries (not included)

Comments about Bower RCWN1R Wireless Shutter Release Set:

Not totally as rock solid as a nikon remote, but by far the most reliable of the low priced ones I've tried. Easy to use and has fired every time.

Pretty much all you can ask, right?

Comments about Bower RCWN1R Wireless Shutter Release Set:

Works great even through walls. I've had it at about 60 feet (with the antenna down) with no problems and so easy to use. With this product you don't have to depend on line of sight like some other brands.

For some reason, it stopped working after a week. Transmitter and receiver could not communicate to each other.

Comments about Bower RCWN1R Wireless Shutter Release Set:

This is an initial review prior to fieldwork. Once figured out, this unit seems to work very well and has a 3 year warrantee (two years longer than everyone else).Transmitter:What's good: Simple and straight forward. Put in the battery. A partial press allows the camera to focus, a full press initiates the shutter release. What's bad: I do not think the battery door will last long. It does not snap strongly into place. What's ordinary: Units of this kind and price are typically not solid. I wouldn't go so far as to say they are flimsy, but they would probably not hold up well if dropped.Receiver:What's good: The frequency toggle switches are easy to change. There is an on/off toggle switch rather than an on/off button so you can see if the switch is on or off. What's bad: Mostly set up is a problem. Once figured out, you are good to go. First, what should be a simple is made complicated. In this unit the batteries must be inserted in the opposite direction. Unfortunately, the battery springs are on the same side giving the misleading cue that the batteries go in the same direction. This is the first electronic unit I've ever seen that has a positive terminal touching a spring. So before figuring that out, I spent lots of wasted time with a unit that I could not get to work because I had one of the batteries in the wrong direction. I thought it was not working and was planning on returning it. If you look inside the cavity, it does show you the correct orientation for the batteries. If the springs had been in the conventional orientation, I wouldn't have had to look at the inside of the cavity. In other words, the springs told me the wrong orientation, the inner markings told me the correct orientation.Second, this unit DOES NOT attach to the camera hot shoe as advertised [...] as stated on the packaging. [...] the company changed their product, but not their packaging.Third, the on/off switch does not show you what position is on vs off. While you can easily figure out that "on" is towards the light, I think all switches should be labeled. Also, there is no light or warning if you leave the unit in the "on" position (probably none of these inexpensive units do that) allowing the batteries to deplete. So keep spare ones on hand.Performance:Using fresh batteries, this unit worked well from 60 feet and the signal successfully went through three walls at 60 feet. I have not yet tried greater distances because I only need about 20 feet on rare occasions. That performance is impressive. So once you have the nuances figured out, you've got a good unit—assuming that it holds up over time. In spite of the lack of a shoe mount, I am keeping this unit and hope it continues to work well over the long haul.
