The PC-1EX from Fostex is a compact controller that allows you to control the volume of stereo speakers. The unit's small size makes it ideal for use on a desk with computer speakers. The metal chassis and aluminum knob provide lasting durability. The controller is completely passive, requiring no batteries or power. Input is via a single 3.5mm stereo input, while output is via stereo RCA jacks. A stereo mini cable and RCA cable are included.

Comments about Fostex PC-1EX Speaker Volume Controller:
The included cables are REDICULOUSLY short and are probably of no use to just about anyone who buys this thing. The 3.5mm cable won't even touch the ground when hanging from the surface of my desk. The 3.5mm cable should be at least 6 feet long to allow the user to position the volume control on the desktop with their computer down below as most people have their computers setup that way. From end to end the 3.5mm cable is less than 3 feet. The disappointing cables are the sole reason for the 3 star rating.
As for the control itself, it feels solid. I plan on using some double sided tape to adhere it to my desk as the rubber on the bottom of it acts like teflon on my desk. Not sure why that is, as it feels pretty soft and grippy to the touch.

Comments about Fostex PC-1EX Speaker Volume Controller:
This little passive volume control has a nice smooth response and feels like a quality piece of gear. It's not much, just a 1/8" stereo input, 2 RCA outputs and the rotary pot but it does what I need - control my computer monitor speakers. Also it's little and fits nicely in the limited space on my desk.

Comments about Fostex PC-1EX Speaker Volume Controller:
...but, it would've been even better had Fostex incorporated TRS connectivity into the design. Solid construction, clean signal.
Although patch cables are included (1/8" & RCA), they were a little short for my setup. Anyone with a cable run of more than 3-4 feet will need replacements.
