This is the backup battery that was included as part of the package with my HDR-CX700V Sony Camcorder. It works great, and should power the camera for 8 hours (I haven't had the camera long enough to use it 8 hours yet). The only drawback is that it is very outsized for a small camcorder. The battery is a little over 2" long and it sticks out so far off the back that it looks a bit unbalanced. More importantly, I can't use the viewfinder when this battery is installed.
If I were buying a backup battery, I'd consider getting two smaller ones instead of one that is quite so large. However, as a backup battery that was part of the camera package I am very happy with it. When I want to use the viewfinder (which will be relatively rare) I can switch to the smaller battery that comes standard with the camcorder. It's nice to have 8 hours of backup power available.

I ended up returning this because it sticks out too far so you can't use the camera eyepiece on the Sony HDR-XR550. The NP-FV100 is a great choice if you operate only from the screen...Read complete review

Comments about Sony NP-FV100 Rechargeable Battery Pack (3900mAh, 8.4V):
Great battery life, especially when using the 1080p HD capabilities of my Sony Handycam. Long battery life comes at a small price to pay (the battery is almost as large adn DEFINIELY heavier than the camera itself). Well worth the extra price, and you always have the battery that was included with the camera as a functional backup

Comments about Sony NP-FV100 Rechargeable Battery Pack (3900mAh, 8.4V):
The battery is large and heavy but really extends the life of the camcorder. Because of the batteries size, it might not fit into some cases and if using a table tripod, may throw it off balance.

In my line of work sometimes I have to just set up, hit record, and go and do something else.
I know that with one of these batteries I can do that with peace of mind.
I have had the NP-FH100 prior to buying this one for for about 5 years and it still charges and holds its charge like the day I bought it.
Do yourself a favour. These batteries are bullet proof!

Comments about Sony NP-FV100 Rechargeable Battery Pack (3900mAh, 8.4V):
I own a HDR-PJ50V. This battery when charged fully works for 7 hours. I thought it would work for 8 hours. The battery is about as long as the camera itself. After shooting for 15 minutes, it lost 30 minutes of charge. For the most part, this is the only battery we will need. However, having the standard battery NP-FV50 that comes along with the original cam is worth it.

Comments about Sony NP-FV100 Rechargeable Battery Pack (3900mAh, 8.4V):
I use this for my Sony HDR-PJ760v and gives me about 8 hours of recording time which is great since the battery that originally comes with the camcorder only lasts about two hours. It is great for traveling and when shooting for long periods of time. It does add weight to the camcorder and sticks out quite a bit but is a minor concern for me. I would recommend it to any one that owns a HD Sony camcorder.

Comments about Sony NP-FV100 Rechargeable Battery Pack (3900mAh, 8.4V):
It is expensive, but it lasts me days. I purchased it to record me completing jobs I do for eventual use on a website. It lasts so long it is ridiculous. You will get over the price quickly. I also purchased the travel charger and it works well, no problems.
