ikan introduces its Elements line of video support equipment with the Basic Fly Kit, a lightweight, modular support rig designed to work with any DSLR or other small camera. Made of anodized aluminum and comprised of 5 basic parts, the Fly Basic adds comfort and image stability to the often awkward process of shooting video with a digital still camera.

Not as heavy or cumbersome as a full rod system, the Basic Fly consists of two foam-grip handles with two attaching, movable arms and a base plate that can accommodate optional 15mm rods to allow for added accessories. Completely configurable for cameras past, present and future, the Fly is an affordable, future-proof investment in support gear that will evolve and grow over years--and productions--to come.

Comments about ikan Elements Basic Fly Kit:

Solid construction. My only critique is that the hand grips spin slightly even though they are tightly secured. This could be an advantage to some although I would prefer no movement. Otherwise, this piece is versatile, solid and can be used in different ways.

      Ok for the price

Comments about ikan Elements Basic Fly Kit:

Nicely build, light and a lot of expansion option but the expansion are pretty expensive. The handle come off very easily so you have to put something to hold them if your using it with the handle on the top. Great product and you get what you pay for.

Comments about ikan Elements Basic Fly Kit:

I use the fly kit to film motocross/bmx so I need something lightweight and smooth. This kit is both. I moved the handles and plate around to get it to work to my liking for my dslr. Once I did some rearranging it worked fine. Smooth video was the second thing I noticed behind the ridiculous light weight. It feels like professional equipment with all of the nice anodized aluminum. I feel like the handles would get messed up after a while because they are foam. Overall it's a great solid product.

Comments about ikan Elements Basic Fly Kit:

This rig is STRONG!!! Well constructed and I know will last me for a very long time. It's so sturdy and all the parts are made with quality material, well....almost.

First off the current picture isn't what I received. The two metal arms coming out of the cheese plate were gold. Also the picture shows a kind of wing nut yellow screw for the bottom of the hands. Mine was a octagonal handle to screw in. This is a problem because it's really hard to make tight, so when you're holding the handles they easily start to come loose and unscrew. I had to go to the store and buy screws for it that I could use a screwdriver on, but it's a special metric screw so I couldn't go to the two main "home" stores to get it, had to go to a specialty store.

Another problem is that the foam handles spin when holding them. They aren't loose by any means, they just easily spin around tightly on the metal rods they are on. This is an operational problem when using the device. I'm probably going to superglue them on to the metal rod. Downfall is now I'll have to replace the foam and rod later instead of just the foam, but oh well.

Great great product though. I know I'll be happy with this for a long time. It also is perfect for edge of the fingers focusing and zooming with dslr. It's really going to help change how I shoot for the better in such a small simple unit.

Comments about ikan Elements Basic Fly Kit:

Overall I like this product very much. The only thing I don't like is the foam grip fixation as I could imagine that under much usage, they risk to become loose. However this can be easily resolved by adding 2 screws (Ikan THUMB WHEEL 2-PACK) on top of them. Another disadvantage for usage with the Canon EOS 5D Mark is that you need to remove the camera from it in order to change battery.
