The Redrock Micro microMatteBox Deluxe Bundle is a universal matte box system that accommodates any lens--whether camcorder, film camera, DSLR or 35mm lens adapter. With its convenient swing-away design, this cinema-grade lens attachment allows the use of 4x4" and 4x5.65" professional filters that can rotate 360° or be easily swapped out for different looks. Light spillage and lens flare are controlled by a top/bottom French flag and a pair of side wings that, like everything else on the microMatteBox, can be easily locked, adjusted or simply removed.
Configurability is key, and not only of filters, flags, and side wings: optional Redrock accessories include the 15mm microSupport system as well as additional filter stages.
Note! The microMatteBox does not come with support rods or baseplate, which are available separately.

This is a great matte box bundle for the price. The flags and side panels are metal, which is nice. The mattebox itself is well constructed. My biggest complain are the few parts of the mattebox that are made of plastic. For example, the side segments where the two side flags fit in are plastic. One is a very tight fit and the metal shaves away a tiny bit of plastic when inserted. Also, the screw nobs are plastic. These are very minor issues compared to the overall value of the mattebox kit. You will be hard pressed to find this quality and features list on another matte box kit.
I used a Zacutto mount/rod system to mount the mattebox, not the Redrock mount.

This was a recent addition to my redrock rig. And though the whole rig feels sturdy and is amazing due to it's modular options, this matte box feels a little flimsy due to the side mount not being able to lock down. It's great for steady work, shoulder work, but don't get too crazy with it as it will shake all over the place.

Comments about Redrock Micro microMatteBox Deluxe Bundle:
Don't be dissuaded by the headline. I love my Redrock Micro mattebox, but I do think that it is quite a bit more than its worth.
I shoot on a Sony FS100 and 15mm rail system utilizing the Redrock Micro low-rise baseplate that is suggested for my camera. I use a Nikkor zoom and a Sigma macro zoom with my camera system.
The donuts work just fine and the flags are sturdy. It takes a little bit of time to align everything, but that's to be expected so it wasn't a problem. It's built of sturdy plastic and the flags are powder-coated aluminum, which chips relatively easily along the edges.
It's really easy to put together, mount and adjust. The biggest selling point for me was the swing arm. Most pro matteboxes with swing arms are approximately double the price or more, so even though I think it's too expensive, I consider the price point a fair deal at best. For something that's made completely from plastic (with the exception of hardware and flags), I think it should be a little bit less, especially considering that Redrock Micro panders to the indie market.
All in all, it does its job and performs to expectation.

Comments about Redrock Micro microMatteBox Deluxe Bundle:
My Genustech mattebox is on its way straight back to B&H. This big guy however, is staying with me. The Good:Build quality was better than expected.Box feels rugged. Wings and eyebrow are metal, not plastic as I had read somewhere. What a releif. Swing away arm feels pretty industrial. No big gaps filter trays like in the competitor's mattebox. The Bad:It's big. It's heavy. The paper slips that mask for 4x4 filters are a joke. I'll need a more reliable solution in the long run. I'm a little concerned about the "box" itself. It appears to be plastic. Everything elsee appears to be metal. Pretty sure I read "all metal construction" on the specs. This is kind of a bummer but I was half expecting this based on other reviews. We'll see how long it holds up. I'll probably invest in a decent case for it to extend the lifespan. The Ugly:Fit and finish is mediocre. There are parts that didn't get a full coating of paint or powder coat on the inside. This seems like a silly corner to cut but oh well. Overall, this is a great mattebox for the price. I tried other boxes in this price range and was WOEFULLY dissappointed. The genus had big gaps for light to leak in. FAIL. This was the alternative. While there are some drawbacks with this one I'm pretty impressed. I wouldn't buy this if the only thing you are going to use it for is DSLR work as it's simply too large and heavy for strickly DSLR applications. However, if you want a box that will work on a DSLR and a larger traditional rig this product seems like a steal at under 1k. I use this with a Zacuto mini baseplate and between the two I get quite a lot of room to move left/right and up/down for various cameras. I'm also okay with the donuts. I've heard some complaints but I've read you can buy an arri bellow for it if you just have to have it. However, my shoots are fast paced and my lens selection varies so much that I prefer the quick and simple donuts most of the time. If you're obsessed with quality, get an arri or chrosziel. If you're willing to accept a few annoyances to save a ton of cash you'll probably be very happy with this mattebox.

Comments about Redrock Micro microMatteBox Deluxe Bundle:
I basically use this matte box on a tripod, but I wouldn't hesitate to use it in a handheld rig. This matte box combined with the microSupport baseplate (low riser), it's a really nice solution for my FS100 and small collection of Leica R lenses. While I am switching the prime lenses it's enough just adjusting the baseplate forward or backward. It's only when I need to use the 7"-long zoom lens that I need to adjust the rods connected to the baseplate to give room enough. I didn't find the hassle other users found using the foam rings, they stay well attached to the built-in hood of the lenses and, the most important, offers enough flexibility when the lenses change their length when I turn the focus ring (and the 90mm lens "grows" 3/4 of an inch.) I found the operation of switching lenses quite fast.
I added a third stage and works well.
The small piece I found improvable is the 4x4 filter mask that goes in the filter tray (4x5.65 default size) in case you want to use 4x4 filters. It's thin and fragile; I am just waiting for the day it will get lost or brake. Overall not a big issue, I already knew it when I decided to buy this matte box.
A friend has the O-BOX and it feels even more solid (like a tank) than the RedRock one. In terms of weight I would say they are similar (I don't have objective data here.) When it comes to the operative of changing lenses, I found the swing away of the MatteBox and the "sliding" microSupport baseplate a much faster system. Overall, I think both matte boxes do their job quite well.

Comments about Redrock Micro microMatteBox Deluxe Bundle:
I considered Chrosziel for my EX3, but the cost was a killer. I purchased the Redrock MicroMatteBox Deluxe bundle instead and have been very happy with the quality, compatibility and design. I can easily mount it on separate 15mm rails for either my EX3 or EX1R and share 4x4 filters. I especially like the ability to swing the matte box away from the lens without taking the unit off the rails, which is the "deluxe" part of the bundle. The matte box easily adjusts to match the lens height on either set of rails.
The bundle does NOT include the rails or camera base plate, but the Redrock microSupport baseplate (low riser) is a perfect match for the EX3. I recommend the 18" pro grade stainless steel rods if you plan to add the Redrock shoulder pad. You can attach a tripod quick release plate to the bottom of the RR base plate and easily move from tripod to shoulder mount. The RR base plate includes a dynamite Manfrotto sliding quick release plate which makes this system very easy to set up and use between cameras.
The only negative with the RR matte box is the foam rubbber donuts that marry the camera lens to the matte box. The 3" donut does not fit well on either the EX1r or EX3 lens. I resorted to pushing it over my UV filter so that it's attached to the camera lens rather than inside the matte box. Works better for me that way.
Except for the foam rubber donuts, this is a high quality unit that I'm extremely pleased with.

Shooting outdoors with my EX3, I need to be able to adjust a circular polarizer as shooting angles and sun position changes. That's not possible with the EX3 lens shade attached. I purchased the Redrock MatteBox Deluxe bundle along with a 4x4 Tiffen circular polarizer and it works perfectly.
I initially purchased a Varizoom universal base plate with adjustable 8" rods. The Varizoom does not work with the EX3 since the rods are too long and don't allow the matte box to slide toward the camera far enough (by about 4"). If you slide the adjustable rods back toward the base, the base plate will not mount on a standard tripod head. I purchased the Redrock Microsupport baseplate and a pair of 8" carbon fiber rods from Cavision (15mm rods must be purchased separately) and the base plate and matte box align perfectly with my EX3. A pair of thumb screws on the swing away arm must be loosened so that the matte box can be adjusted upward. The base plate includes a Manfrotto quick release plate which is heavy duty and slides enough to join the lens with the matte box without doing a lot of adjustment to the rods.
The whole unit is heavier than you may anticipate, so make sure your tripod is beefy enough to accomodate the weight. I have mine mounted on a Libec T98, which works well. Anything smaller and you're asking for problems.
All the Redrock parts are very well designed, solid construction and more affordable than Croziel.

I use to for some Video Commercial. Happy with the product so far.
PROS: Easy to install, very solid, good quality, both filter can be rotate 360 independently.
CONS: Height adjustment is very limited. If you are using this matte box with follow focus, you will need a longer lens because the Swing-away Support Arm will get in the way with the follow focus (and I'm using a RR FF).

Very BIG for DSRL, Love it on my PMW-350K.
I have to change the Rods on the Pull Out Arm from 4" to 2" because my lens handle was on the way,
The Fujinon Lens is kind of short lens.
Overall, is well crafted, solid construction and a good price for a Matt Box bundle.

Comments about Redrock Micro microMatteBox Deluxe Bundle:
Build quality is top notch as expected from redrock. I have a couple issues that could make it even better.
The donuts come in 2", 2.5", 3 and 4". I'm going to cut the 2" one to 3.5" to fit my lenses. I don't know too many people who have a lens that fits a 2" hole. I guess some really old cinema ones will.
This thing is BIG. A little bigger than I thought but it's standard size, just a little over kill for a DSLR camera but works well. I wish the arm was a little more secure but I think this is my lightweight rods.
I'm using this with a Zacuto Z-M-UB Mini Baseplate. It works, but a little tight to fit a follow focus in. Should work wonders with a full size camera. I have an XHA1 that I also use for this rig and it works great. No problems at all.

I have this for use with my EX3/SGBlade and Canon 5Ds. Aside from its weight, this was the only choice for me this side of an ARRI. We have no problem fitting this to a variety of rod systems and camera set-ups. The swing away is a real boon for prime set-ups too. I'd happily buy this again.
