I've only used this backpack for a few days, but I can already tell I'm going to get a lot of use out of it.

There are a few different reasons I needed a bag like this. First, I work as a Camera Assistant on TV/video shoots, and this bag has more than enough room for any camera accessories I would need, including: batteries, spare lenses, tapes, monitors, etc. It even fits my DVX100 with no problem.

My secondary use for this backpack is carrying around a DSLR kit with extra lenses and a laptop, all of which fits with more than enough room to spare. I can even add in an external hard-drive amongst other things.

It's pretty much at the upper limit of airline specified sizes for carry-on luggage, so it shouldn't be a problem for air travel, although I haven't tried this yet. Also, the first day I worked with it we were stuck out in the rain, but the pull-out rain cover kept this bag dry with no problem.

I have purchased this backpack for my Canon 5D mark III camera and lens so I can carry all my babies in one location when I travel. Size of the backpack is really great and good to carry things around but dividers are not strong/firm enough for travelling.

It could have been better backpack it the dividers are stronger.

This backpack is fantastic. At first I thought it was bigger than what I needed. After comparing a smaller bag with my gear included, I quickly noticed that I'll need the extra room.

It's very comfortable and extremely well built. Plus I feel like I still have room for more gear!

      I love this backpack!!!

Comments about Lowepro Pro Runner 450 AW Backpack:

Having all my gear stashed tidily in one single beautiful bag just fills me with a feeling of excitement and makes me want to dash out of the door on a spur-of-the-moment video-making adventure. I'm now very glad that I didn't go for a much cheaper option, but bought something that provides a reliable and high-quality base for my entire gear kit.

Here's my big list of pros for this bag, with one niggling con at the end.

The padded interior is totally customizable, so you can re-velcro each compartment to fit each piece of gear, which is fantastic. For example, you can have three similarly spaced compartments for your lenses, two large and wide ones for camera bodies, and two thin ones for your light meter and digital audio recorder.

The interior is a bright gray, making it easy to see everything (since gear is mostly black).

It does its primary job of protecting the gear with its ample padding plus the bag's rigidity. It's not water-proof, but the attached rain cover could not be more convenient - no fussing to deploy it, and then when dry, just stuff it back in its designated pouch.

Comfort. I trekked around Hong Kong for two days with this thing fully loaded, and it was bliss - no chintzy straps to cut into your shoulders, and the waist and sternum straps enhance the carrying support.

Check-in compatible. This was the big nail-biter for me… As soon as it arrived in the mail and I finally confirmed what all the other reviewers were saying - this thing is a monster! It really is as huge as everyone says - Santa would fit right in with this slung over his back. I was fretting for two weeks that this bag was over the size limits and wouldn't make it onboard, but it did! I flew a Boeing 737 (LAX to SFO) and it fit in the overhead with no problem. International flights were also no problem whatsoever. Unless you're flying within Europe where the limitations are far more stringent, you should be alright.

My one annoyance with this bag is that you cannot lock the zippers. They use a zipper head that is simply too small to run a lock through, and the pull tabs are pieces of string. I was quite irritated, since it is one of the very few bags I own without metal zipper pulls. It did need to be gate-checked once (that was expected: on a regional Bombardier CRJ200 plane run by United) and I felt quite vulnerable to theft. Considering it cannot be anything but an oversight and not a cost-saver, it seems like a no-brainer that Lowe needs to fix ASAP. I've found a kludgey fix (attaching a few metal key rings and locking those together) that will slow a potential thief down by about two minutes, but it's not ideal.

That said, I still give this bag full marks.

Comments about Lowepro Pro Runner 450 AW Backpack:

If you are looking for a travel bag to take on an airplane, then this is the one! I was traveling down to Florida for sports photography of college softball games. I needed to bring all my gear with me in a bag I could take on an airplane.

The bag easily fit my camera, three additional lenses, a 17" MacBook, iPad, and all of the various accessories to go along with everything. I won't go into specifics, but things like batteries, cords, chargers, and much more. However, once everything is packed it is not easy to access the equipment.

I like this bag because it does not scream "Hey I am a camera bag, come steal me". For the most part it looks like a hicking backpack. The only thing that gives its contents away is a small (very small) patch under the top hangle with an orange picture of a camera on a tripod. To fix this, I just colored the orange icon in with a black sharpie. Problem solved.

When I first used the bag I was worried that it would be too big for an airplane. The bag meets the requirements for a carry on item, I checked before buying. However, I was still nervous. Luckily the bag fit through security scanners with plenty of room to spare, and just fits into an overhead compartment without any struggle (just make sure the front buckles don't get caught).

All the straps help a great deal with weight distrubution and comfort. The waist straps can also be tucked away, which is nice when on a plane or when taking the bag on and off your back.

      BE WARNED:
This is a big bag! You cannot and should not use it as an every day bag. Fully packed, mine weighed 32 pounds! This bag is great for travelling, but bring an extra day bag. Your shoulders and spine will thank you later.

Comments about Lowepro Pro Runner 450 AW Backpack:

I find this backpack to be effectively much larger than its dimensions imply. Many similar backpacks lack the depth to take medium size lenses in a stick-up position: you have to lay the lenses into the bag parallel to the longest dimension of the case. But with the Lowepro Pro Runner 450 AW, lenses like a 24-120 or a 16-35 slide in comfortably parallel to the case's shortest dimension. That means that lenses that have to lie flat in the other backpacks can now stand up, freeing up space for other equipment. The Pro Runner 450 AW's sides and dividers have thick padding to protect your gear. The waist belt can be folded into a compartment on the back of the case. Both it and the shoulder straps are very comfortably padded as well. The backpack has one carry handle on top and another on the side, each with a rubber grip, making it convenient to carry like a small suitcase. It's a very comfortable, well thought out design. The only part that's a bit fiddly is the strap about a third of the way down from the top of the case. Its snap-type fittings are easy enough to use, but they get in the way of the zipper closure for the main compartment. They can be used to quickly secure the case when you haven't time to use the zipper, but then they have to be unsnapped again to close the case with the zipper. Looks to me as if these side straps are there mainly for appearance. But that's a small gripe. Overall, the Pro Runner 450 AW backpack holds more stuff than I expected, is solidly made and is comfortable to boot.

Love this bag. It holds all of my gear, but is very big (which I knew before purchasing). I almost wish I had bought the version with rollers, but couldn't afford the extra cost. Very well constructed and the padding and strapping designs seem like they'll prevent any discomfort when wearing the bag. I'd recommend you get out a measuring tape and compare the dimension of this bag with your current bag to see the difference. I did and was aware of how big the bag would be when it arrived. The laptop compartment is an extra bonus.

Recommended if you have a lot of equipment that you wouldn't mind carrying around. Keeps everything secure, sectioned off and organized. Don't expect to be able to get in and out quickly. Use this primarily as transport and storage, take out what you need and keep it moving :)

I have another smaller backpack that I used for my F4 when I had it. I needed something bigger this time to accomodate the newer lenes I added.

Comments about Lowepro Pro Runner 450 AW Backpack:

This is an awesome bag. Plenty of room for two bodies and 6 lenses and 2 flashes. Tons of compartments and pockets for filters and chargers and all the little gadgets needed for a full day of shooting. The bag does an excellent job of securing a medium size tripod. This is super comfortable to hike with all day long. This is the best bag I have ever had, and would recommend is to anyone.

Comments about Lowepro Pro Runner 450 AW Backpack:

This bag is the perfect size for two DSLRs and at least four lenses; two of which are teles. The other equipment fits easily and perfectly with the movable dividers. Since it also carries a 15.6 inch laptop and is the legal size for carry-ons; I'm down to one carry-on item that fits the overhead compartments on even regional jets.

I am fitting a full frame camera with 2 telephoto lenses, 2 4:3 system cameras with a total of 4 lenses, filters, tripod head, external hard drive, etc. It seems durable and reliable. Having just purchased it, I look forward to taking it on the road soon.
