The DM10 Studio Kit from Alesis is an electronic drum set with a 10" snare, four 8" tom drums, a hi-hat, ride, and two crash cymbals. The sounds are provided by the DM10 module which allows you to expand your kit with its 12 inputs for electronic drums and cymbals. The DM10 is loaded with 100 preset drum kits (and 100 user assignable kits), and each sound has multiple velocity-sensitive layers depending on how hard the attached electronic drum or cymbal is struck. All of the included drums have dual-zones for a realistic playing feel, and the ride cymbal features three zones.

The DM10 has been designed to deliver a complete drumming experience with its 1047 preset sounds. Both of the zones on the included drum pads can be triggered simultaneously creating a realistic, layered composite drum sound. The built-in sequencer can play accompaniment parts so you can practice and record your chops, and you can also plug in an external CD or MP3 player and jam with your favorite music. The DM10 can also be attached to a computer via its USB port to load more sounds into it, and to trigger software instruments like BFD, Toontrack, and Reason.

The RealHead Kick Pad allows you to use any single or double-beater kick drum pedal of your choice (a kick drum pedal is not included). The cymbals feature a rubberized surface material that keeps the feel of a real cymbal, without making very much noise when played. There are large choke triggers on the underside of the crash cymbals and the ride. The ride has separate triggers on its bell, face, and edge. The hi-hat comes with a RealHat pedal that features variable control. The black aluminum 4-post StageRack is ergonomic and fully adjustable, and allows you room to add more drums and cymbals to your kit.

Comments about Alesis DM10 Studio Kit - Professional Six-Piece Electronic Drum Set:

I purchased this set for church worship services. It took quite a while to get comfortable with it, about 5 hours to set it up and get it dialed in, but, what a wonderful instrument. I can't wait to get back to it and experiment with it to see what it can do! It looks and feels so much better than rubber pads.

Comments about Alesis DM10 Studio Kit - Professional Six-Piece Electronic Drum Set:

Bought this kit and within one week found out the outputs did not work. Alesis required me to pay for shipping and claimed it would be 2-4 weeks. I found this a bit odd since it was a brand new unit, but I had no choice. It's now been six weeks and I still don't have a drum kit. Call me crazy, but this has to be the worst customer service ever. Now I wish I had spent the money on Roland, Yamaha...anything but Alesis. Don't make the same mistake.

I use this for my studio. It's solid all-around construction. One bit of advice is take time with the settings! Watch some videos online. You will get them to respond just right if you take the time. The only slight negative is the "real feel" isn't really very real...still not bad. But, if you don't like the feel, there is a simple "upgrade" that can be found online. Totally worth the price though! B&H is great!

I just purchased the DM10 for my studio, and use it for recording all styles of music, Metal, Rock, Pop, Hip Hop, R&B, Jingles and soundtracks for large span of video projects. The DM10 Brain is equipped to handle all of it. There isn't a style of music it can't handle. The pads feel and play as close to an acoustic set that you can get, and there are plenty of triggers to allocate samples to. The pads are as responsive as you want to make them, this is as close to an acoustic set that you can get with out the SONIC BOOM to upset the natives :-). The kick drum pad is large enough to handle a double bass pedal with ease, and the USB connection give the unit an almost plug and play ability to any 3rd party drum application. Did I mention that the sound library is upgradeable too? HA! This is a highly effective tool in any application you choose to use it. Gig, studio, or practice. After months of research I laid the mighty dollar on the mighty DM10. Highly recommended. And Buy it from B&H your not going to get better service or a better price ANYWHERE!

Comments about Alesis DM10 Studio Kit - Professional Six-Piece Electronic Drum Set:

I am in the military and bought this to get back into drumming and music in general. The shipping was free and got it the cheapest at b & h. It got here right on time and only took me an hour to setup. I am in a dorm at the moment and this thing is the perfect size. My buddies can bring in their guitars and amps for some good jam sessions. I am 6 ' 3" and a bigger dude and this kit is great compared to some of the yamahas and rolands which seem extremely cramped. The closest thing in quality was a roland setup which was about 1200 more in price. It took me a few days to get all the sensitivities just right and I am still exploring all the sounds but it is a lot of fun trying it all out. Had to buy my own kick pedal and the hi hat pedal could be better but everything else is spot on. The all black gives it a great look as well. Haven't hooked it up to any music software yet but it sounds great on the amp and headphones. Have gotten nothing but compliments from all my musician friends and some won't get off the thing. Hope that helps.

Comments about Alesis DM10 Studio Kit - Professional Six-Piece Electronic Drum Set:

Best you can get for the price, but not the best you can get. You could spend up to 10 times more for a top of the line Roland, but if you are considering the DM10 it is because price is an issue. I got mine for a great price from B&H (best price I found).[...]Let's start with the basics:Setting up was straight forward and the new 2011 rack is a great addition to this inexpensive system because there is a brace that I use as a back stop for the kick drum (without it the kick would continually slide away from use). The DM10 brain is easy to navigate and customize, you will need to spend some time adjusting the settings to reduce crosstalk. I have been able to get it just about perfect, but it took a lot of tweaking. How does it sound? it is OK for the price, but I use Addictive Drums on the computer and it makes the Alesis Kit sound like a professional kit! Addictive Drums is the only software drum system that has a key map specifically for the DM10, so cymbal chokes HiHat and the Ride all work perfect and sound better than anything onboard the DM10.The DM10 has 12 trigger inputs which can trigger 22 instruments. Not Bad!In coclussion, This is a low end unit that has some very high end features. If you use computer Soft Synths for drums and do not want to spend a fortune than the Alesis is a good choice.
