Works perfectly on a Mac with GarageBand
I converted 60+ cassette tapes to AIF files with the Alesis Phonolink and GarageBand '09. The Phonolink device worked perfectly and the Mac had no problem recognizing it as an USB input device.

I purchased Phonolink to record all my vinyl to CD's. When plugging the USB end into computer, computer does not recognize Phonolink. Using Microsoft's Digital Music edition, with it's Analog Recorder, it too does not recognize phonolink.
Followed limited instructions included with Phonolink. I am using an AKAI professional turntable & know this works. I am also using Windows XP, service pack 3.
Tried calling & going on-line to Alesis, however to no avail. The downloads that are mentioned in the literature that came with Phonolink do not exist on Alesis web page, only PDF's files.
After discussing all this with my computer tech, he is of the opinion that the Phonolink I just purchased is bad. Currently I could not recommend purchase of this product.

If you are looking for a way to use your current gear and not invest big bucks--use this small investment to covert your records to MP3's. The results are very good--all it will ever take is time anyway to copy all the music. The patch is free off the website and you're ready to start recording.

Comments about Alesis PhonoLink Stereo RCA-to-USB Cable Interface:
For some time now I've been intending to transfer some old vinyls to my iTunes library. I started the job with a vintage receiver which eventually lost one of the channels after a few records. The Alesis PhonoLink is compact adn was immediately recognized by my Mac. The sound quality is as good as my old stereo, and it takes a lot less space on my desk. Highly recommended.

The PhonoLink RCA-to-USB Cable Interface by Alesis worked seamlessly on first set-up. I use it through the application Audacity on an iMac to digitize my old vinyl and CD collection. Works perfectly fine.

Comments about Alesis PhonoLink Stereo RCA-to-USB Cable Interface:
I plan to transfer some of my vinyl to CD and I bought this item hoping that it would allow me to plug my vintage turntable (Linn Sondek LP12,c.1984) into my computer.
I leave the turntable connected to the phono pre-amp input on my receiver in order to take advantage of the higher pre-amp quality compared to the PhotoLink. I use a stereo RCA cable to plug the RCA connections on the PhotoLink to the receiver's tape monitor loop output and plug the USB into the computer. This way I can use the "line" level setting on the PhotoLink as well as listen using my room speakers, my stereo speakers, or headphones, with the flick of a switch.
The volume control on the PhotoLink is useful when it's necessary to increase the gain for some of my records.
Another plus is the compact size.
I have absolutely no complaints about this product and would recommend it to to a friend.

Comments about Alesis PhonoLink Stereo RCA-to-USB Cable Interface:
The setup instructions are very vague. There was no information regarding the speed in mhz to connect to the device. Also on you must set up an Aggragated device and there was nothing about that in the instructions or in the .pdf I downloaded from Alesis. I manage to get it working after 3 hours of trial and error. There should be more instructional guidance on setting up this device. It is not a 4 step process.

Comments about Alesis PhonoLink Stereo RCA-to-USB Cable Interface:
Got this and seemed pretty cool little device to convert thousands of Vinyl Records with a still working turn table. Everything hooked up easy and just showed up on my Mac. Everything was working just fine but two records in, the audio was missing most of the dynamic range on one channel. Thinking perhaps I had a bad cable connected I flipped the still working clean channel with the channel that is now sounding bad, the problem fallowed. I then tried to connect using a line input device and same issue with the line level on the interface.
Seems like from reading other post you either get a good one or you get one that is just poorly made and fails rapidly, that is my case. So until they address the QA your packaging.
