Comments about Aleratec DVD/CD RoboRacer LS Duplex Win/Mac:

I bought this product because I needed to make a lot of discs on an ongoing basis, with plenty of lead time, so speed was not an issue. Thus far, despite several phone calls with tech support and hours of effort on my own part, it has not worked properly.
It will burn discs perfectly well, but won't burn + Lightscribe in one pass as advertised, so I am left to burn the discs in one pass and then run them through again to print the labels. Through painstaking software removal and false starts, I am able to print a full batch of Lightscribe discs about once every five attempts. Every other batch is interrupted with "a communication error has occurred with the Lightscribe drive". Aleratec tech support is very spotty, often not responsive unless I am a squeaky wheel. And it's pretty clear they don't really know what the problem is. Tech support tells me this is not a common problem, but my results have been the same on three different computers.

Comments about Aleratec DVD/CD RoboRacer LS Duplex Win/Mac:

Except for the lack of instructions in the handbook as it is poorly written (Went to their website and dug deep to find set ups) the actuall product did what it said it did with no hiccups what so ever. Would have given this 5 stars if it had better instructions and burned the label quicker. They averaged 18 mins on the label alone without much text.

Comments about Aleratec DVD/CD RoboRacer LS Duplex Win/Mac:

I gave this thing two stars because it does work.......sometimes. Just not enough to qualify for three or more.We purchased this to do a job of 250 discs (5 - 50 disc sets) featuring a lecture series that took place at our church well over a month and a half ago. When I first received the Roboracer, there was a bit of an issue setting it up and getting my Mac to recognize it. No problem. Just contacted Aleratec support, and they emailed me the driver that was not included on the install disc. It was a little odd, but i thought nothing of it.I got everything set up, ready to go for the first disc. Did a test run. It worked great! So, I started up with the remaining 49 discs for the first set. I left to go out of town for the weekend (similar to demo video, only I wasn't playing golf). I came back that Sunday to find one of the discs lying on the floor, and the top drive (burner) sounded like it was doing work. It had only burned about 15 discs successfully before this issue occurred, apparently, because there were 30 discs left in the loader (one on the floor and one in the burner). So at this point I have one dud and disc that is not printed. To try and make a long story not as long as it could be[@]. Let them know about the issue. They swapped it, no hassle. Got the replacement in. Set it up to do a run of 30. After about the 15th disc I noticed the bottom tray did not fully drop. I had to give it a gentle nudge. The tray dropped and ejected the disc. No problem, except that now means I have to babysit a unit that is supposed to be something that I start and let go. I thought that it might have been a faulty unit on the first one, but I see that this seems to be an issue with all of them, as I seriously doubt that I got two faulty units. I understand there is an issue using cheap discs with this unit. That's why I used Verbatim discs. To summarize:The Roboracer has a tendency to not eject discs reliably every time. Sometimes it does great. Other times, not so much. I have yet to complete and entire set of discs without having to force quit the app and reload the project. The issue seems to be with the bottom tray not properly ejecting the disc sometimes. It's like it gets hung and I have to give it a tiny little nudge to get it to drop the disc out. Otherwise, it tries to drop a another disc from the top down to the bottom while it still has a disc in it. Therefore, in my opinion the device does not work as advertised, if I have to sit here and make sure that a disc does not get jammed in the tray since it doesn't eject all the time.I now have 9 coaster discs and am almost two months into a job that should've taken a week, at tops, to finish. The Roboracer, when it works correctly, works great. It's so inconsistent on its reliability that I cannot trust it to leave it alone for an extended period of time without worrying that my job may get hung up due to an ejection malfunction.Don't get this unless you have a lot of time to spend returning it and getting a replacement to find out that the replacement will do the same thing. Also, don't forget about all that time you will spend checking up on something that is supposed to be self sufficient.I really appreciate [@] being so willing to work with me on this and make sure I was completely satisfied. Going to try my luck with a Microboard unit once this return is received and processed.

Comments about Aleratec DVD/CD RoboRacer LS Duplex Win/Mac:

Once the program was downloaded to the MAC, the unit hooked up via USB just fine. It took a bit of doing to figure out which video files needed to be loaded to the Aleratec program in order to burn a DVD disc. Once that was solved, the unit burns the discs just fine. The program is fairly simple to navigate and offers a few features for various media (CDs, Data, DVD, etc.) The lightscribing feature is nice. I wouldn't say great because even though I'm burning the label on BEST, the label still comes out a bit dull. Don't get me wrong, still very good quality, but not as good I expected. Ironic that the Aleratec program disc included with the unit is printed and not lightscribed. So while I'm very pleased with the unit and how it produces the DVDs, the program requires you register the program and download the license which as become a real issue. I've been working with their customer service dept (Eric has been very patient). I'm still using the trial version of the program because the license agreement will not load into the program as directed. I'm sure it will all get worked out. OVERALL, very few negatives, the unit works as promised and I expect to burn MANY DVDs.
