Comments about Shure HPAEC840 Replacement Earcup Pads (Pair):

I bought several pairs of these Shure HPAEC840 ear pads which are not just for the larger Shure SR840 headphones; they also are just about the right size to fit Sennheiser's 280's. Also using some thin strips of double sided tape, they can be attached onto the Fostex T20RP mkII's, T40RP mkII's, and T50RP's, unless you really stretch them a bit too much to go over the edge of the ear cup. Likely other candidates include some of the larger Bose phones, and maybe the recent Oppo 1 Planar cans, neither of which have I tried to use these with.

Concerning the Fostex cans, their current production has a glued thick felt on the outside of the headphone shell, and the current Fostex pads are slightly softer and flatter than the Shure pads. Also the Fostex ear pads have nothing else between the driver and your ear, while the Shure 840 ear pads have both a thin fabric and a thin foam woven together and sewn in, between the driver and your ear. This may cause changes in either the sound frequency response or efficiency. The Sennheiser 280 pads have a thick embedded foam plus a thin fabric, and the foam has the center oval cutout right over the driver area, so expect some minor changes there also.

In a pinch, these Shure pads can be used on many closed and open back earphones where the original pads were 105mm long by 90 mm wide, plus or minus, and the price is up to 50 percent less than some other original manufacturer's replacement ear pads. They appear to be well made and well stitched at the outermost mounting edge, not just cut off at some inconvenient point with varying tolerances. But expect minor changes in sound when substituting any original pads with the Shure HPAEC840's. YMMV.

Comments about Shure HPAEC840 Replacement Earcup Pads (Pair):

I recently bought Audio Technica ATH-M50 headphones and was well aware of the lackluster pleather earpads that come standard with it. In searching for an alternative, I read about the Shure 840 earpads and how they were a great fit and way more comfortable.

I can say that this is so true. They are SLIGHTLY loose but it's not nearly as bad as some suggest on forums.

Overall, sound quality didn't change much and my headphones are much more comfortable.

Highly recommend getting them. Oh and on top of that, B&H had the best price by quite a large margin from other retailers.

Comments about Shure HPAEC840 Replacement Earcup Pads (Pair):

Although these replacement earcups are intended for the SRH840 headset, they also fit perfectly onto the SRH440 headset. The SRH440 headset has very hard earpads which are uncomfortable to wear and which don't provide a good enough seal to preserve the bass response of the headphones. It's a shame that SHURE still hasn't updated their design here, as there are [$]headphones which have better earpads than the SRH440.Therefore it is almost mandatory to buy these replacement earcups if you want to get a good sound and comfort out of your SRH440. These earpads are thicker than the original ones, the material is softer and it provides a better seal. The only thing I didn't like is that SHURE didn't provide these with the SRH440 from the beginning.

Comments about Shure HPAEC840 Replacement Earcup Pads (Pair):

I had purchased Shure's SRH440 headphones, and was happy with everything except the stock earpads. On the recommendation of a few websites I purchased these replacement pads for the SRH840, and I instantly loved them. The padding over the driver guard is greatly improved, and the faux leather used for the actual padding is much more comfortable.
