I bought this adapter set to use with my Olympus OM-D EM-5. It works as promised, and allows me to input most 3.5mm mics (with the correct pin arrangement) to record in-camera audio. But - the included microphone picks up a lot of noise from the OM-D, making it totally unusable. (Reviewers who were using it with a PEN series camera didn't mention this, so I'm assuming it's specific to the OM-D's fans and other mechanisms).That said - I've been able to attach another mic and it works just fine. My RODE mic isn't practical to mount to the OM-D, but the sound it records is crystal clear. I think I'll look for a lapel-style mic with a wind sock and use that rather than the included mic. For the price, it's a handy accessory, but real videographers will be recording multiple sound sources anyway...

I use this primarily to do video sound for my sons concerts. SO far it replicates the sound as I hear it as long as I am not on top of the speakers. I have no idea if it is a GREAT recorder but so far I have been pleased for my uses.

This mic adapter is essential if you use your Olympus Pen for video. I have an Olympus E-PM1. The in-built picks up all kinds of distracting sounds. When I took the camera a party, the loud music caused distortions.

This mic adapter and bundled stereo mini-mic solved those issues. I am using the mic adapter with the bundled mini-mic, which is a huge improvement over the in-built mic on the E-PM1. The sound quality with the mini-mic is pretty good. Having said that, for serious video I plan to invest in a quality external mic which can plug in to the mic adapter.

I docked one point from the review because the mic adapter essentially uses up the flash slot. One wonder's why Olympus did not have a mic slot built in to the camera.

I'm not a pro- so maybe I'm not the best to review this, but the sound difference between the on board mic and the external mic was kind of.....meh. Maybe it was because I was sitting in my kitchen with no background noise to contend with, IDK, I'm just excited to have to port so I can buy a much nicer bigger mic, which is what most reviewers said I would do anyway.

The SEMA does what it advertises: provided a connection into the camera for a stereo (or separate mono channels, with other connectors) input.

Well made; it all fits, and it's compact.

If you want to use a levalier, you will need to provide that. I used the supplied stereo mic and the hot-shoe adapter to record an interview, and it worked perfectly well.

The setup provides better quality sound than the in-camera mics, for sure. If you want to close-mic voice, though, you will need the levalier itself, and another mic if the people are sufficiently separated.

Basically video of the kids is much improved and along with the foam buffers I purchased from B&H there is very little wind noise.

I bought the sema-1 to use on my E-PL1 to get stereo sound for my camera. I like the ability to use the extension on the microphone to pick up sound closer to your subject. It works very well.

I got this accessory for video work with the Olympus XZ-1. So far I have used it to get audio from an aircraft's avionics system (for some flying videos), and it works well. Short of a condenser microphone with phantom power (which would dwarf the camera itself), the included stereo microphone is outstanding.

I got this adapter to use with my Olympus PEN E-PL2 camera when recording video. The availability of this adapter was the main reason I purchased this camera over another brand.

It allows the connection of an external microphone to the camera.

Recorded audio sounds distorted because it's too loud.

It picks up significant wind noise.

The extension cable should have been longer.

It would have been really nice to have a volume control on the adapter.

I promptly ordered wind screens and 20' of extension audio cables. I think with these additional items, it will do exactly what I need!

Anyone that shoots video knows a good sound can make up for a bad image but good image never covers up bad sound. I Love this little mic kit sometimes I use my pen as the audio capture device when we're shooting with 5d or other cameras. Anyways this is a great device

This is what you need for stereo videos since the E-PL1 has a small monaural mic. The sound is good, and the adapter has a standard jack which may allow other stereo inputs or microphones. The SEMA-1 is best in calm weather, since any wind greatly affects the mic (you won't know how badly until playback). It occupies the accessory shoe, but usually can remain installed. It's a suitable addition to replace a missing feature of the camera.

I bought this microphone for stereo sound for a short film and for recording live music and it does not disappoint. The audio it captures sounds much recorded on the camera than it does if I recorded it straight to the computer's microphone. It can pick up subtle sounds from far distances and yet remain crisp and true. The extension cable is nice to have as well you can clip the mic to something else to keep the noises from the camera (taps, scratches, etc) from being recorded.

The Sema-1 Microphone Set is an absolutly must product to have for the Olympus EPL-1 series camera. Very good sound clarity when recording and playing back in HD.I would definatly recommend this product.

This improved the sound on the Olympus Pen camera measurably, but it also picked up a huge amount of wind on a breezy day. Someone needs to come out with a wind screen or fuzzy for this mic. I also didn't like losing the optical finder when using this.

This mic vastly improves sound pickup while enhancing right/left separation. It is indeed worth the money. The tie clip and extension cable are very handy items to attach the mic to just about anything.
