The iAdapt 20 Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter from Kanex is an adapter cable that allows you to convert Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt video and 2-channel USB audio into an HDMI signal that carries both. When using the adapter with a Thunderbolt source, the data transfer speeds and video options of the Thunderbolt interface are not supported. The adapter is designed for use with the MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, Mac mini, and iMac, as it features the Mini DisplayPort connector that is found on those computers.

I have used the Kanex iAdapt 20 for approximately a year and a half to connect my Mac Mini to my Vizio TV (which is used as my primary monitor). Last night while using my computer, I noticed a burning smell. It turns out that the white plastic on the Kanex product was in fact melting due to what I can only believe was an internal blown fuse or resistor.
The product no longer works, and I am unable to use the Mac mini without the monitor.

Went from late 2008 13" aluminum macbook, to Samsung DLP 1080p tv, video was clean and fine, however; the audio was crackling the entire time.

I was VERY close to returning this product because it did not work upon initial connection. The product does not come with instructions so I assumed it was a simple plug-and-play device... not so! I found the directions on the Kanex website [@] which was not very easy to find but was very helpful. The issue I ran into, which I'm sure many others will to, was that my TV was stating that the "function was not supported." This was because my MacBook Pro was sending the display at full resolution. I chose various resolutions only to find that the only one that works on my TV is 480. I have a 2008 Samsung LCD flatscreen. Once I set the display to 480 I had a crystal clear picture and great sound (which you also have to choose in the sound area of System Preferences). So the 3 stars really is due to the absence of instructions and the amount of research I had to do before getting it to work. But the device itself, once properly hooked up, works great.

I've been looking for a way to get audio and video from my Macbook Pro out to an HDTV. I had a video only solution before I found this Kanex adapter. Solutions that include audio were hard to find and expensive. The adapter works great and it is nice to watch movies and video podcasts on a big screen.
