I was recently in the market for a battery grip (shooting Formula Drift from 8 AM to 8 PM, nearly non-stop) and after much research, finally decided on the OEM Canon battery grip. Now, I can't speak to the quality of other third-party grips, but I can speak to the quality of this grip. The weight, feel, and quality of the grip is second to none. The solid build gave me a confidence that allowed me to not worry about holding a 70-200 lens on my body by this grip alone. The problems with electrical connectors and the screw stripping out on third party versions of this grip were non-existent and I had no problem inserting two batteries into the clip, the clip into the grip, and the grip into the camera. The grip actually has a small slot to hold the battery compartment door (you remove it to insert the grip's battery analog). Little details like that are why the small difference in price was worth it.Finally, the additional size and portrait-orientation shutter and backside buttons gave me a whole new lease on my camera body. I have large hands, and this grip gave the camera some much needed girth and heft to feel like a more solid and stable piece of equipment.

This battery grip attached nicely to a Rebel T3i, with color and texture to match the camera body. It has storage for the body's battery door and an attachment point for a hand strap.

There is an extra set of controls for portrait shooting. This is a useful feature and the grip is tolerable for hand-held shooting vertically.

Unfortunately, it is bulky for this small camera body and its portruding corners get to be a problem for the hands when shooting landscape. It interferes with the left hand while zooming and puts a pressure point on the palm of the right, near the wrist. It necessitates a larger camera bag if one is to be used.

Loaded with two lithium batteries, the balance of the camera is awful with either a short or normal lens. It adds weight, and if the idea is to extend battery life, it best be mounted on a tripod or the camera will get to be a burden.

I was going to use this for long days of shooting out in the field, but have given up on this idea. Instead, it will stay in the cupboard while I pocket extra batteries and shoulder the camera in a nice compact case.

I could see where this would be helpful for prolonged tripod video shooting with live view eating up power, but for other types of use it has its downsides.

Comments about Canon BG-E8 Battery Grip:

This is the no nonsense version of the batter grip. The finish matches and the button function is perfect. The Battery tray holds 2 LP-E8's or you can load it up with AA's if you want (there is two draws that it comes with). The batter trap door pops off really easy from the standard camera body and it even has a little slip in piece to hold that door for you so it doesn't go missing... This does make your camera body a bit more bulky and a bit heaver, but that is pretty obvious right folks? Over all this is one of the best accessories I have purchased for my T5i to date... super comfy, super efficent, super quality. Thanks B&H !!

The battery grip from Canon is worth the money. It gives me a firm grip on the camera plus extra juice for more shooting time. The set-up instruction is also very simple to follow. No regrets, I should have bought this a long ago.

I use my Canon EOS T5i for lots of photos and video. This battery pack works great for both, is convenient and easy to use and allows me to take lots of video without running out of power. As an older woman I thought the extra weight would be an issue but the extra weight actually adds balance with longer lenses.

Comments about Canon BG-E8 Battery Grip:

I put Canon battery grips on every DSLR I own or use. It adds much-needed balancing weight to the rear of the camera to help offset lens weight. Plus, it extends shooting time without having to change out batteries. I generally can shoot more than 2,000 photos on one set of batteries using this grip (of course, camera settings influences battery life, as well).

I have already used this grip to 'double' the time I can be out shooting video and photo. I personally enjoy the added weight this adds to my camera, and the ability for portrait photography without having to distort my hand in odd contortions.

Adding this to the Canon T5i really makes the camera easier to hold when you have large hands like I do. Also stabilizes camera when you put on the long lens. also like the fact I can take a vertical shot without raising your arm. it has provisions for 6 AA batteries to two of the canon batteries, two ways to power the camera.

This battery grip extends your dslr and if you have big hands, you've experienced that your hand doesn't fit the original grip. Otherwise, it works like a charm!

I use the Battery Grip to extend the recording capablilites of my videos. It would be so time consuming having to stop and switch batteries. Now with two batteries I can record with worry - except for the 1/2 hour limit.

Of course the best thing of all is the perfect fit. It also has a built in storage space for the battery door that has to be removed. The quality of the fit and finish is of course perfect.

Only bad thing? I should have bought this sooner!

Comments about Canon BG-E8 Battery Grip:

"You get what you pay for" applies to most things, including camera gear that's why I picked the BG-E8 Battery Grip from Canon / B&H . If you're going to spend good money on a DSLR and quality lenses, why would you skimp on something like a battery grip? The grip is a great accessory you should have for the Canon T5i, you can put in 2 battery packs to have lots of shooting time without switching. Also there is camera controls on it which allow you to shoot vertical shots without having to twist your hands helping to make it less awkward to handle the camera. I love the texture of this grip and it makes me feel more self assured when handing. Not to mention that it makes your camera look bigger and cooler…There is also an adapter included that takes AA batteries if you are desperate for power, you can pop in six readily-available AA's in and finish off your shoot with no problems.

Comments about Canon BG-E8 Battery Grip:

I shoot with a battery grip at work, so when I bought my t3i for personal use, I knew I had to have this. It works perfectly and gives me double the battery life. I can shoot for a full 8 hour day with this. The construction is a little plasticy compared to the Mark II's grip, but still solid. I wish there wasn't a tray and the batteries just slid into the grip, but I guess you can't have everything. It still works like a dream.

The AA tray was a nice surprise.

Comments about Canon BG-E8 Battery Grip:

I had added a velo version of this to my old Rebel and liked it well enough. When I purchased a new rebel I decided to spend the extra $ and get the Canon branded instead. It is well woth the extra money. The feel of the latches and the fit is much better. The battery carrier doesn't have the cheap feel either.

I have been wanting a battery grip for my eos rebel t3i for a long time. I got an amazing deal from b&h and decided it was time to pull the trigger. The package came ahead of schedule and the installation was so simple with the directions. I have used the grip two times so far and it works awesome and gives me a much better grip on the camera. I like the little extra weight that it adds. Great product!

We bought one of the battery grips for my T2I about 6 months ago and loved it. I bought the second one for my wife for Christmas to install on her T5I. I did also buy two new canon batteries for the battery grip. It does add weight to the camera but I think its easier to hold as I rarely use a tripod while taking pics and videos
