I had been pondering over purchasing EIZO CG243W for more than 6 months before I made the decision to go for PA241W. At this moment I'm only one week into using it, but I couldn't be happier.
I purchased the monitor only version since I already own a Colormunki calibrator. The decision gave me a little surprise -- by default the monitor does not come with Spectraview, the software neccessary for hardware calibration as well as controlling the monitor settings via DDC channel of the DVI link. I contacted the NEC Customer Service, who confirmed that with the monitor-only version Spectraview has to be purchased separately. This is not a big deal since the software costs only $89 in the form of the download version. Still, it'd be nice if this is stated clearly on the item description of the website.
Spectraview is a very convenient software. It controls the monitor hardware setting directly, including setting the luminance level and loading the gamma table. It also works in a preset-sort-of way, i.e. you could set your target (certain luminous and color temperature, etc.), calibrate the monitor and thereafter set everything with a single flick in Spectraview. In my case, I've created presets for sRGB in different luminance values, e.g. 100, 120, 140 and max. This allow me to choose proper luminance in response to the natural light coming into my room in day time. Very convenient.
There's a catch though. In order to allow Spectraview to control Colormunki, one has to DISABLE the control of Xrite driver over the calibrator. Otherwise Spectraview would keep warning that no calibrator is found upon startup and one can't do calibration of course. To disable the control of Xrite over the calibrator, go to Control Panel and find "X-Rite Device Services". Double click on the item and uncheck the box in front of your Colormunki. Then restart Spectraview and the device will be recognize properly.
Overall, I consider this a very solid purchasement. Wouldn't hesitate to buy a 2nd one if needed, given its <1/2 price compared to EIZO CG241W.
p.s. For movie viewers or gamers, this is far from optimal an option. The response time wasn't optimized for such applications and as a result, you got blurred images for most of the moving scenes. Avoid buying this monitor if your main purpose is video-oriented.

I did a lot of research before purchasing the PA241w-bk NEC monitor. After all the good reviews I thought it was a safe bet for a professional quality wide gamut monitor, I thought wrong. First off a minor but annoying issue was the screen lock in the rear was broken and not even attached to the monitor. I could have lived with that, after finding there was no mini display cable included I ordered one then hooked up my monitor only to find a dead pixel square in the center of the monitor and back light bleed along the top. When I went to register the monitor it had said it was already registered to another user.
One would think after all these issues customer support at NEC would replace it, but no. The lady was very confrontational, taking all of the blame off of them and said that the monitor was never registered to anyone else and it was damaged during shipping and it needs to be returned to B&H. Anyone who has given a good review on NEC's customer service must be planted as a shill. It was the worst customer service I have ever received!
As a ten year plus client to B&H I do not like to return things but I can't wait to get this monitor out of my sight as soon as B&H reopens for the new year. Spend the extra cash if possible and buy Eizo, it will save you a headache.

Comments about NEC MultiSync PA241W-BK 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor with Wide Color Gamut:
As a smi-pro photographer and an Apple computer user, that is not brand new I have been searching for a new monitor that would give me a wide color display along with sharp bright imiages. I first went with a major brand other then Apple as Apple's new computer monitor would not work with the age of my computer. I picked a 30 inch wide model produce by a major company that had good reviews but this model did not work with the Apple either. I read the reviews on the NEC PA241W-BK and based on both the reviews and information obtained from the well infromed staff at B&H, I purchesed the NEC and it has lived up to the reviews that have been posted about it. I also saved 400 dollars in the process by picking the NEC. Happy with this product.

Comments about NEC MultiSync PA241W-BK 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor with Wide Color Gamut:
I needed a monitor that could be calibrated for photo editing (primarily portrait work) after my trusty CRT died. It was easy to set up and works great with my x-rite calibration software. So far, it's given me wonderful results...allowing for accurate adjustment of color, brightness, and contrast. It even handles black and white images well.

As my first grahics monitor for photographic editing applications, I find this monitor to be a fine value.
It was easy to set-up, software loaded properly, and calibrates very well. Since I shoot in the Adobe RGB, it is nice to have a monitor that can reproduce handle that color space.
I do recommend purchasing the Spectraview ii calibration software, as I find it to be very well thoughtout and flexible to use.

This monitor is used for Photoshop and it is fabulous. As good as the image is on my NEC P241W, this monitor blows it away with its wide gamut.
If you are into Photography, I highly recommend you purchase this monitor. It is on the heavy side, but it isn't meant to be portable.

I use this monitor for photo editing with my MacBook Pro. It's a great screen-no glare and with the MultiProfiler application that I downloaded for free I have been able to calibrate it suffciently for my needs. It prints accurately with my Epson 3880 (once I downloaded new drivers for the printer.)
Can't come up with a con, but I don't use it for gaming, so I can't comment on that.

Comments about NEC MultiSync PA241W-BK 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor with Wide Color Gamut:
I use this monitor primarily to view and edit photographs using Adobe Lightroom. The images are very sharp compared to my old monitor. After i calibrated the monitor using my old X-rite device the colors are perfect. I am using the X-rite calibration software.
The monitor was easy to set up with my old desktop PC that runs on Windows XP.
In summary it is a pleasure to be using this new monitor. I spent a lot of time investigating what would be the best monitor for my use. The people at B&H Photo were a big help. I am very pleased with my decision.

Comments about NEC MultiSync PA241W-BK 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor with Wide Color Gamut:
I researched quite a bit before I chose this monitor. Best quality in the midrange of price. The color on it is wonderful. However the first monitor had a problem with shutting on and off unexpectedly which I traced to a loose power cord connection (where the power cord plugs into the monitor). If I jiggled it, it would come on again but was likely to jiggle off again. I sent the monitor back to B and H, which was a pain as the original outer box had been damaged in shipping. So I waited to receive the new monitor so I could use it's outer box. The new monitor seemed much better. However, within a short amount of time, it too developed a problem with the connection. Unfortunately due to vacation, I was now past the exchange period with B and H. As a result, I am living with it. I have pushed something against the area where the power cord plugs into the monitor to keep it from jiggling off. The monitor quality itself is great but I am very disappointed that I received not one but two with faulty power connections, something which it seems would be easy to do right. I am surprised that in all the reviews I read, I haven't seen any other mention of this problem.

Comments about NEC MultiSync PA241W-BK 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor with Wide Color Gamut:
I upgraded to this monitor from Dell 2405FPW and the NEC is superior in every possible way, except possibly the lack of HDMI and Component Video inputs. The HW calibration through SpectraView II software is amazing, it's quick and easy to do. No more messing around with tiny buttons on the monitor to adjust settings, everything is done via a program on the computer that communicates directly with the monitor. I calibrated Luminance Intensity to 120 cd/m2 without affecting color/contrast performance. I have it calibrated for Wide Gamut and also sRGB profiles and it's easy to switch between the two as needed. The sRGB calibration process is very accurate. If you buy this monitor, make sure you get the SpectraView II software with I1Display Pro calibrator, either bought separately or as a package from NEC.

Comments about NEC MultiSync PA241W-BK 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor with Wide Color Gamut:
This is an excellent monitor for photo editing, especially when properly calibrated with NEC's SpectraView software. Be aware though that most other monitor calibrating software modifies the LUTs on the graphics card. This monitor has its own LUTs and you need SpectraView to modify them; check the NEC web site to see which colorimeters are compatible, or buy their calibrator with the software. Calibration is easy; my monitor colours are extremely accurate and match my prints perfectly. I'm extremely pleased with this purchase.

I'm a fine art photographer who was looking for a new monitor that would give me accurate color for archival pigment prints, but I also didn't want to spend more than [$]. This monitor was perfect for me because it specifically covers almost all of the Adobe 98 spectrum, which is the profile I prefer to use. The monitor is a beast to carry though, so if you pick up in the store, be prepared to hail a cab.

I am maybe out of luck, but I received two PA241 monitors and both of them had dead pixels (the second unit was a replacement. It actually had 1 more dead pixel than the original!)I am sure dead pixels are not uncommon, but it's hard to tolerate.

Comments about NEC MultiSync PA241W-BK 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor with Wide Color Gamut:
I've setup 4 of these monitors for critical color correction for a photo finishing lab and these monitors are the only monitors we will use. They are very easy to setup. The colors from this monitor have been dead-on accurate from day one and make the other TN panels I have look rather pitiful. I HIGHLY recommend this monitor to anyone needing accurate color rendering.Below are some tips that someone may find useful:The brightness adjustment using Spectraview II was a little confusing at first because there is no direct brightness adjustment in the main interface and it defaults to the maximum possible brightness (which is really painful to look at in a dimly lit room). To adjust the brightness using SVII you have to edit the target profile settings and adjust the brightness to your desired level and it will save a new target profile that you will then need to reprofile the monitor to. Also, if you have trouble getting the stand to unlock from the locked factory position as one reviewer did, just push down on the display and that should free up the locking tab.

Comments about NEC MultiSync PA241W-BK 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor with Wide Color Gamut:
I bought two monitors and they were calibrated to DICOM using Spectraview II and a calibrator. I use the monitors to read x-rays, CT, MRIs, Nuc Med and ultrasounds from home. I was initially hesitant to buy these monitors because they are only 2.3 MP and have a typical luminence of 360, but after reading studies from the same monitors elsewhere, I was reassured that I would not miss pneumothoraces and nondisplaced fractures on these monitors. These monitors are great for reading studies from home (without the ridiculous price of medical grade monitors.)
