Comments about Vortex 8x28 Viper Binocular:

I bought this item because it seems to be the only compact binocular on the market with eye relief long enough for easy use with eyeglasses. On top of that the optics are excellent--comparable to full size binoculars with ED glass. The field of view is not as wide as I'd like, but I still find it super-easy to get them pointed at the exact spot I'm looking for (much easier than with other bins I've used). Minor complaints--the super smooth focusing is almost too frictionless, and there are no lens caps for the objective lenses.

Comments about Vortex 8x28 Viper Binocular:

Purchased this to replace a heavier binocular. Wonderful view, plenty of light gathering, light, small, sturdy, very clear, focus ring easy to use, works very well with glasses, great sharp lenses. Cannot say enough good about this glass. Use for land and sea wildlife in fair and foul weather. Highly recommend.

Comments about Vortex 8x28 Viper Binocular:

I absolutely loves these!! They feel so light and rugged and so compact. I bring this with me all the time for hiking, birdwatching, wildlife and concerts. The clarity and brightness are awesome for such a small bino. I also own the Viper 8x32 HD, Nikon 8x42 Monarch 5, and Nikon Trailblazer 8x25. But these are my everyday carry bino because they're small and really light and they look so freakin' cool! These didn't come with objective lens covers, but called Vortex and they sent them to me for free.

Comments about Vortex 8x28 Viper Binocular:

I was looking for a waterproof alternative to my all-time favorite compact binocular, the Bushnell 7x26 Elite. I was given the confidence to purchase this Vortex model because I liked the 8x42 Vortex Fury I won in a drawing. The Vortex Viper 8x28 is not quite as bright as the Bushnell 7x26, but it does focus significantly closer, which is a boon to folks that enjoy watching dragonflies and butterflies. I wear the Viper when kayaking or fishing because I can risk getting it wet. This is a handsome looking instrument that is well built, and it feels good in my large hands. The 8x28 focuses very smoothly and renders a bright, clear image for such a compact design. Most users wearing no-line bifocals like mine will appreciate the high eye-relief. If this was offered as a 6x28, I would buy it! I favor lower powered (6x-7x) binoculars for general birding; they give a brighter (and often wider) view with a given objective diameter, and they give less magnification to body movement. I use higher powers when I can brace on a vehicle window, tree, or other support. I think this size (and the Bushnell 7x26) are about the smallest a binocular can be and still be useful. I have a beautifully-built, high-end 8x20 roof-prism compact that is useless when wearing spectacles; its exit pupils are impractically small to keep aligned in my eyes, and the eye-relief is too short. I have recommended the 8x28 Viper to several friends, and have loaned it out to birding companions (all were favorably impressed). The only suggestion for improvement is for the addition of tethered objective covers.
