Comments about Bower XBGPK7 Professional Battery Grip:

I purchased this with a 1 year manufacture warranty. I just purchased a Pentax K-5 about a week ago, and I didn't like the way it felt 100% so I decided this was probably the best battery grip for the money. Upon getting it, it worked great for all of about five minutes. But we'll get to that, lets start with attaching it to the camera, when I went to attach it to the camera, it went on fairly okay-ish. One of the two metal pegs didn't fit in the hole correctly making it so that it was very slightly pressed away from the body, not a big deal. After I got that sorted, I went to use it and all was well... Until I went to use it about 20 minutes after installing it. I turned the camera body on and automatically it set off the AF without me touching any buttons, then it proceeded to not allowing me to auto focus, then I ran into a problem with BOTH e-dials, the aperture dial would start out at f/8, then go to 7.1, then to 9, then 6.3, then 10, 16, 20, 22 32, 40. And it did this no matter what direction I turned the dial, and once it hit 40, then it would just stop, and could only be adjusted from the dial on the body, the shutter dial also did the same thing, only adjusting shutter speed. Sad to say, that I am very upset with the quality of this product, and I will NOT be sending it back under warranty, it will promptly be returned. On the other hand, it matches the body very nicely, and feels great to hold, and had great weight, not heavy, not light. All in all, it's probably best to just spend the extra $[$] on the PENTAX OEM one.

Comments about Bower XBGPK7 Professional Battery Grip:

I have owned several Bower products in the past and was happy. This is made of cheap plastic. After a short time the turn lock snapped and there was a piece of plastic in it that you could hear when you turned the camera. After more use I realized that it was actually draining my batteries really quickly. This was not worth the aggravation. I took it off and it now sits in my bag. I should have just ripped up a [$] and taped it inside my bag. You get what you pay for.

Comments about Bower XBGPK7 Professional Battery Grip:

I bought this to go with my new K5 and in looking at it was pleasantly surprised at it's construction, which was not too bad. It's not the solid fiber reinforced plastic of the OEM Pentax grip but it was good enough.
BUT-- the rear dial did not work, so back it went. There seems to be a quality control problem with this particular grip, just read the other reviews. I could have gotten a new one, but decided to hold off for a while. I like the way the K5 feels in my medium to large hands without the grip-very comfortable. I still may buy a grip just because of the AA battery insert. Undecided as to getting the original or try again with a copy.
I think that if I kept a grip on all the time I would buy the Pentax grip for it's construction and reliability. But I like the compact size and feel of the K5 much better thab the K10D, K20D which I had previously with OEM grip.

I have had this for 6 months. Now it seems that it has stopped registering with my K5. WOW! What is the point of having a back-up battery pack if it won't power the camera? I should have bought the PENTAX GRIP!!

Sadly this item was defective on arrival -the ISO button and the +- button both worked either intermittently or erratically. As I was not impressed by the build quality and did not wish to try out a replacement, I returned the grip and have asked to buy the genuine Pentax grip.

Comments about Bower XBGPK7 Professional Battery Grip:

It is ok for 1/2 the price of the pentax grip. Used it with my K5 & 50-135 lens combo, the grip does provide a much better and steady grip. Very plastic feeling and buttons are not of high quality. I am guessing it will only work for a while. I would spend the extra money on the Pentax grip.

Comments about Bower XBGPK7 Professional Battery Grip:

This is just what I needed. Helps tremendously in portrait orientation - no more straining to hold the camera AND work the release. Seems to interface with the K-7 just fine and appears to be well constructed. My only problem with it is the slightly touchy release button. I have to turn the grip off as my slightly larger hands have a tendency to come in contact with the release and I have fired off a shot or two with the edge of my palm. But that might just be part of the learning curve and for about half the price of the official Pentax version, I think I can retrain myself. It seems to work better with rechargeable battery than with the six "AA" magazine.
