The PXC 250-II on-ear headphones from Sennheiser are a terrific travel companion, offering high-quality audio and noise cancellation in a small and lightweight package. The headphones use neodymium magnets and Duofol diaphragms to create audiophile-quality sound, bringing out all of the details in your music.

Sennheiser's NoiseGard technology reduces ambient sounds by up to 80%, letting you focus on your music instead of your environment. The NoiseGard controls have been reduced in size by 50% for better handling and convenience. The NoiseGard technology operates for up to 50 hours on a single AAA battery. If desired, you can also use the headphones battery-free in passive mode without the NoiseGard enabled. An in-line volume control makes it easy to make volume adjustments on the fly.

The headphones have a lightweight, foldable design, making it easy to bring them anywhere. The adjustable headband is metal-reinforced for strength and cushioned for long-lasting comfort. Soft on-ear cushions prevent fatigue and also help to block out ambient noise. The headphones have a standard 3.5mm plug and an airplane adapter plug for connecting to in-flight entertainment systems. A carrying case is also included for convenience.

I've used the predecessors to the pxc 250-II extensively before, i.e. the pxc 150 and 250. Sennheiser has indeed improved significantly on an already excellent design.

Although the noise cancelling feature has not improved much over the pxc 250, the pxc 250 II shows a much improved sound clarity, defined highs, more bass (which was my main complaint previously), and a much smaller battery/electronics unit. If you're looking for maximum noise isolation, these probably won't satisfy you, but then again, neither will any of the compact over-the-ear headsets out there. You may need to go with an in-ear noise isolating bud set. If you're like me and absolutely can't stand having something shoved deep inside your ear canal for more than 15 minutes (Lord knows I've tried many over the years), then you should consider these seriously. And at the B&H price point, they are indeed a bargain.

The materials feel like high quality, they fit snuggly on your ears and are very comfortable for long periods of listening.

A word of caution: don't run out of battery. Although they do work without the noise cancelling feature turned on, the sound is drastically reduced in quality. Good news is, the one AAA battery lasts a long time. Another weak point: the lower cable running from the power pack to the headphone jack is thin, and its attachment point to the battery pack seems a bit fragile.

Overall an excellent buy. Best headset in its class for compact over-the-head noise cancelling units, i.e. the ones smaller than, say, Bose Quiet Comfort (excellent, but much bigger and a lot more expensive). Highly recommended.

I had the 2007 version of this product and used it a bunch. Unfortunately, after a 6am flight, I left it on a plane. I loved these headphones so much, I immediately bought what I thought was a replacement pair. I got them and realized that they had changed things. They don't sound as good, they have much more plastic in them and the earpieces are not as comfortable. I have never been a Bose person, but I am wondering if their product might be better. I am very disappointed that Sennheiser has skimped on this product. I have used their products for decades and feel a bit betrayed by the cheap feel of these. OH well... I guess the world is going down the tubes.

Comments about Sennheiser PXC 250-II On-Ear Noise Cancellation Headphones:

I also own the first generation PXC 250 for over 8 years. I bought these for me so that I can give my young son the older ones for our upcoming trip to Disney. I use these almost exclusively on plane flights and the compact design and quality of the audio is well worth the price.

These are a good replacement for them. Same if not better noise cancelling technology. It only needs one battery as opposed to 2 for the oringal. And the volume control on the battery compartment is a nice addition.

For the price and travel-friendliness of the package, it was a good purchase.

B&H had a great price on these noise canceling headphones. You can't go wrong with these because they fold for easy travel but have all the lows and highs you need.

Comments about Sennheiser PXC 250-II On-Ear Noise Cancellation Headphones:

These headphones effectively block extraneous engine noise while on board aircraft as well as cancel machine noises such as landscape gasoline or electric equipment. The long cord is easily tucked into a pocket or backpack while in use and the ear pads fit well without being restrictive. The lightweight carry case is sturdy yet compact making them a wise choice for the frequent traveler. Be advised to carefully fold the headphones as they are stowed into the case. Since the cord is long, winding it around the head gear might become an issue.

Comments about Sennheiser PXC 250-II On-Ear Noise Cancellation Headphones:

I bought a pair of these after sampling a few different pairs of headphones in-store at B&H a couple years ago. They worked very well for their price point and size. I was surprised at the audio quality, which was comparable to some of the larger over-the-ear headphones (comparing them side by side to the Sony MDR-V6, I thought the two were very close quality-wise). I'm not an audio engineer or even an "audiophile", and mostly listen to mp3s on an iDevice or Sandisk mp3 player. I wanted a good compact pair of noise canceling headphones, not earbuds, to use while travelling, and these are perfect.

I'm taking off a star because the headphone plug is very fragile. My review is in the past tense because the cord snapped off at the plug. The repair from Sennheiser is $60. Instead of repairing, I put the $60 towards the Sony MDR-V6. They aren't as compact or light, and they don't block out noise as well, but they sound better and are still in one piece after two years and thousands of miles on airlines. I would still consider buying another PXC-250 pair, but will need to be more careful if I do

Worked well on a flight with very effective noise cancellation for on the ear (as opposed to over the ear) phones. Great Sennheiser sound, tho' bass notes slightly dostorted at very loud volumes, (those who want 110 db directly pointed at their eardrums may be dissapointed...) foldable and compact. No real downside as yet.

Does what one expects. Volume control knob is a plus. Comfortably long cords. But, the on ear pads are small and do not do a good job of blocking the kinds of external sounds that the electronics cannot block. Next time, either I pick something with standard ear cups (though they are then much bulkier to tote around) or go with the in-ear style.

I mostly use the product when travelling.

The headphones are great for travelling due to their compact size.

However the headphones are quite fragile therefore use caution when packing them.

I used it on my long flight from Los Angeles to Melbourne. The droning noise was cut out and I was able to sleep properly. I'm a light sleeper and don't sleep easily in a plane. Also, watching movies was much more pleasant with clear low-volume sound instead of trying to turn up the volume to compete with the noise. Well worth it for me. Highly recommended.

Bought the headphones and flew from NY to Australia 2 days later. Headphones definitely helped to reduce normal engine and cabin noise. Will be used on many more Australia/USA trips in the future and hopefully aide in getting some much needed sleep on this long haul.

I use these headphones on a treadmill, trains, and aeroplanes. In quiet areas the sound quality is very good. On planes and trains the noise cancelling is effective. They don't help much on a treadmill but I'd need in-ear (Shure type) or proper over ear cans. For the price these are an excellent compromise and are highly recommended against pricier rivals.

I bought a couple of pairs of these headphones primarily for a long haul flight. They were really comfortable, have great sound quality and do a good job of suppressing the engine drone, making flying far more enjoyable. My girlfriend wears them while sleeping even without music playing they do a good job of cutting out background noise. The folding design and included carry case mean they dont take up too much luggage space. I wouldn't travel without them now. Highly recommended!

These headphones are amazing. When I tried these headphones I was sitting on a rather noisy train. I put them on and sat there and was a little dissapointed, they just felt like normal headphones. Then I realised there was an on/off switch, and when I turned it on, wow the train noise basically dissapeared, and even the annoying loud people over the eisle became a quiet murmour. Definately a must for the frequent traveller.

These headphones exceeded my expectations and I have recommeded them to plenty of other people. The packaging is great, the whole kit folts up to a size only a little larger then a wallet.
