The Joby Gorillapod Focus/Ballhead X Bundle provides a reliable and flexible support for photographers using professional equipment such as digital cameras, camcorders, and lenses weighing up to 11.1 (5.3 kg). This tabletop tripod (only 11.4", 29mm tall) features incredibly flexible legs made up of more than two dozen leg joints that can wrap around a wide variety of supports so you can position your camera in a variety positions.
The Ballhead X is portable (only 9.3 oz, 262 g) and compact (only 3.3", 83mm tall). A unique feature of this device is its universal "x-shaped" mounting plate which connects to your camera and easily slides on and off the ballhead. It is equipped with durable adjustment knobs which allow you to rotate your camera smoothly with full 360° panning and up to 90° tilts. Additionally, its durable aluminum construction has an all-black finish which minimizes reflectivity and gives it a professional look.

Definitely the Gorillapod Focus is a great improvement in comparison to the SLR Zoom model. This model is really the one for Pros - having Gripped DSLR with telephoto lenses.
Even with a Canon 100-400 or the heaviest 70-200, the Gorillapod stays solid as a rock. The ballhead X will be a handy add-on, as it helps in panning or easy 360 movements. Even for a general consumer, this ballhead X is a great buy - the Ballhead 'X', as it is being called, allows easy release and insert of Camera or lens onto the Gorillapod - without the need of a screwing motion. No other current tripod heads can give that flexibility as the Ballhead X. Once you attach the top portion of the X to the camera Body or the Lens (super zooms/ telephotos having tripod collars), rest is like a breeze.
Now, about the practical use in field- the gorillapod can grip itself in multiple places, including tree branches, posts, railings. On top of a car even during snow it stays solid - due to the rubberized beads. The only requirement is that we should find a spot to grip- which is easy in the field..
There are no cons, but wanted to mention that even though Gorillapod is not having a tripod's height by its own (as we need a place for it to wrap it), it's still a great product in its own class - ability to stay at any place, any height and position - something which a high end tripod can't do. Overall a handy tool for any photographer - recommend its buy.

black cap that covers one of the adjusting knobs came off 15min after I took it out of the box. its not very solid under my gripped 50d with a sigma 17 50 mounted. this setup wouldn't hold my camera with my 400mm mounted and probably wouldn't even hold my 70 200. it will do in a pinch but obviously dosent replace a real pod.

Have used the Joby a few times with my DSLR shooting video. Works great. The legs are meaty and hopefully hold up to a lot of twisting. Not sure how well it would work with a 10 lb camera. Great for low shots and very small so easy to get around.

I usse it for some of my macro work. My lens is heavy and this little workhorse gives my wrists a break. Easy to use and versatile. Only complaint: wish the feet were a bit "stickier". I use it on a hard surface (dining room table) and the feet slip. Other than that I am glad I purchased it and expect to get a lot of use out of it.

This is a great little tripod for photographers on the go! The flexable legs can get the camera in any position on any surface, throw a ballhead in and what can't you do. I really enjoy using this Gorillapod Focus. I'm glad I finally found a small tripod that will support my D700 with battery drive, a 70-200mm lens and not let it crash!

What is wrong with you if you don't already own this? A flexible tripod is perfect in a pinch and works great with a camera or a light. If I had one draw back on this rig, it would be the expensive ball head, but if that's the case then just buy it without the head and pop your own on it.

I use this product both indoors and out. I sprung for the more expensive Gorillapod due to it being able to handle a higher weight (around 11 pounds). It's a great tabletop tripod as well, and the uses it has outdoors just boggle the mind.
I only wish it came with a level, however I solved that problem by purchasing an inexpensive, non-magnetic torpedo level from the hardware store. Now making sure the tripod is level is a snap.

Great compact tripod with so many uses! You can take this anywhere and it feels indestructible! Mounts to anything you can wrap its legs around and it won't come lose. I bought this tripod because its lightweight and tough. I have a Canon 7D with grip and it can handle it with no problems at all. In the other hand this tripod dont make the "noise" that makes a conventional tripod so you can take good pictures nearly without notice by other people (in Europe, police are a bit freak about photographers using conventional tripods)

I was little sceptical about this tripod until I got my hands on it. This is well-built, compact & light weight. It does exactly what it says. However, this will not replace your regular size tripod.

I bought this tripod because its lightweight and tough. I have a Canon 7D with grip and it can handle it with no problems at all. In the other hand this tripod dont make the "noise" that makes a conventional tripod so you can take good pictures nearly without notice by other people (in Europe, police are a bit freak about photographers using conventional tripods)
